Re: Confused RE: How to re-image the Quadra

ARGGGHHHH... it was way too simple of a fix - just select the "pi" user instead of the "quadra" user and a different environment (HamPi for Quadra) comes up.? Sometimes the simplest things can confuse!? No help needed now!

Re: Glad to be here

I started from scratch a little while ago, re-did the process as I had originally done a few days ago, and while it definitely took quite awhile, I finally did again see the the LED switch from red to blue, and now when I boot without SD card, I come up with the option of selecting either the original OS, or ham-pi.?

Not sure what was done differently this time compared to the first time, but it seems to now be booting as expected.

What i'm still unclear about is, if my seeing an option of selecting either OS once the Quadra boot is expected behavior. I'm assuming it is, but have seen mutliple comments from people that would suggest that's not what they are seeing. But then, they may have had the same experience I did, where it appears the write process from SD to eMMC completed properly, when it really did not.

Re: Glad to be here

Don, did you go thru the steps to burn the HamIQ image to the internal eMMC? The way to do that is described by Michael on the Inovato site, in the Forum Support>Image Backup. Take note that advice to use Balena for this is not recommended by Michael. His recommended process is much simpler anyway.

Re: Glad to be here

I've yet to see mine boot with access to ham-pi without the SD card being inserted. The first time with SD card inserted, I eventually saw a blue LED, but never saw it boot to ham-pi from the internal MMC.

I have a second Quadra, going to test with that one and see if I might have messed something up.

Re: DXSpider #logon

Don--AE4DW

I was wondering the same when I saw it, and based on some older posts I found in the Ham-Pi group, its not for our access.

Re: Glad to be here

Tryg, hope you have resolved your problems. If not, the way to burn a OS to the eMMC is discussed on the Inovato Forum. Look for the topic Doing a Factory Restore. I recall reading something about being careful about how large a file is used, as the eMMC has limited space.
The basic idea is, burn a uSD with the image you desire, unplug the monitor from the Quadra, insert the uSD into the slot and power up the Quadra. It will automatically transfer the image on the card to the internal uMMC. this is what I have deduced after multiple times at reading the Forums discussions. If you power up with the monitor connected, and a card in the slot, the Quadra starts up using the image on the card.

Re: New Quadra-4 + USB dongle + WiFi

I have done this and my computer still opens to the main Inovato screen. Tried rebooting, hard restart (complete power down), put card back in and it still boots to the main screen. Looked for ways in the settings > Config area to tell the computer to boot from SD card if one is present (a Raspberry Pi config option).. any ideas?

I flashed the microSD card using Imager. Does anyone have thoughts on whether or not Imager vs Bella Etcher would make a difference?

Thanks,

Confused RE: How to re-image the Quadra

Hey Y'all... this might be a stupid question, but I wasn't able to find out the process to do this on the Inovato website or the forum.? Hopefully someone can help me.? I have a Quadra that I initially set up with the Inovato image and it works dandy.? So I downloaded Dave's great HamPi for the Quadra. I unpacked it. I wrote it to an SD card. I unplugged the Quadra, put the SD card in and thought that it would write a new OS image from that card, but all I ever get is the same old Inovato image.? What's the secret sauce or handshake on this thing? Thanks ahead of time

DXSpider #logon

When I started up the new HamIQ installation, the logon screen showed an option of DXSpider Sysop, requiring a password. What is the default password?

Re: New Quadra-4 + USB dongle + WiFi

Thanks Mike. I was just going to ask what to do with the HamPI logon screen, when I happened to notice your reply to Paul. So now I am operational.?
Dave, will the HamIQ installation upgrade, or will we have to create a new uSD card? And, will the various apps upgrade when their developers create new editions??

Re: Glad to be here

Hello to all. My question is has anyone managed to get the IQ to run x11vnc on boot? I want to run the computer 'headless' for /P ops which, I expect, will involve some C/L stuff perhaps not, but in any event can anyone help on this? I plan on doing the remote stuff from an Android tablet mainly, VNC viewer is working ok with that but getting x11vnc to run on boot would be excellent. Cheers, Tryg

Re: wsjtx install trickery

Dave,

It seems, from all accounts Dave that you know your way around the Raspberry Pi and now Quadra really well.

I have a newbie question: Is it possible to create a bootable WSJT-X SD Card that will work simply by inserting it into the Qadro and powering up - while retaining the Quadra OS when removed?

Like many, I don't need fldigi, clocks, loggers, Calculators and other stuff that may well 'choke' the feeble CPU and RAM of the Quadra.

I simply have an application specific need for my Quadra..

WSJT-X

I know WSJT-X works flawlessly under Linux Mint (for example) I have it installed as a dual-boot on Toshiba and Acer mini notebooks but I don't
know my way around the Quadra OS enough to persevere or give up and try to flash another OD that is more mainstream?

Any suggestions would be welcome?

In other words is a LOT of work still needed to accomplish this?

Terry

I've tried on my Windows Machine with RealVNC and Remmina on my Raspberry Pi Desktop OS.

I can not connect.?

Re: Glad to be here

Hello to all, so far I have been unable to run HamIQ just yet, I am going to try in the morning if I have time - I want to install HamPC on a good laptop that is running Linux Mint (and quite well). I will tackle the questions of the Ham PC install on that group page. I would really like to know if the IQ can run x11vnc or another VNC server app on boot, which the IQ does so when power is applied. The aim is to run the computer headless. Has anyone managed to do this? TIA, 73, Tryg
