746pro transmit problems on 17 and 15 meters only
7
It transmits and works fine on all other bands except 17 and 15. My antenna is fine and works well with other rigs. When keying up on any mode this is what the meter reading says. Any help is appreciated. Thanks Ken The antenna tuner works fine

IC-746PRO 2M sensitivity?
18
Hi folks, I picked up a 746PRO yesterday, and on 2M S-meter readings seem pretty low. I do have a generator, but don't currently have a "real" SINAD meter so can't test it objectively. Switching between radios, the PRO sounds about the same on this signal or that one as my other rigs, but the digi-bar-meter-thingy reads low. Any similar experiences? The rig works well otherwise, 100W or close to it transmit on all bands. Dirty trimpot? The rig's last home was gentle, but out in the deserts of Eastern WA. Thanks, Jim N7CXI

TX alignment: 1mV audio??
10
The 746 PRO service manual specifies 1 MILLIVOLT audio be injected at the mic connector. Other than building an attenuator and hoping for the best, I’m not sure where to go with that. Anyone been there and figured something out? I would rubber band a speaker to the mic if I had a way to measure 1mV at the connector… Thanks and 73, Jim N7CXI

Understanding the Display
19
I have an 764PRO on indefinite loan from a friend. I got my Technician license in August and have been using 2m and 70cm repeaters and nets and done some simplex for a contest. I'm probably using 10% of the capability of this radio (e.g., VHF FM only) and I don't understand all the settings or even all of the display. For example, here's a shot of transmitting on VHF with the RF Power knobbed turned full clockwise (full power). How do I interpret the power setting? Do I look at the "Po" scale? Is this at about 35W transmitting? If so, why is it 35W with RF Power turned all the way up? Shouldn't it be 100W? Do any other settings on the display look weird for VHF FM? Thanks for any guidance. Icom IC 746pro death TX
10
Hi guys. Still can’t solve my 746pro TX death on all bands and mods. Had scope on IC151 uPC1678G pin 1 and pin 5 .Got nothing ,zero RF .Radio was set at full RF output FM at 3.500kHz. This chip is getting hot even when RX is on,that is abnormal as per OZ2M and many guys adding heat sink on the IC151. Radio ser.# A03100 or 03100 .Look like letter A was imprinted by hand. So far I ran out of ideas but will not give up,hi hi! I’ll need Ur help guys,PLS. One can test a CIV interface (TTL serial or USB) by shorting the tip and ring on the cable and using a terminal program (PuTTY, et al) to see if typed characters will echo. One can use a basic voltmeter on the radio CIV port and "see" data (changing reading) when the VFO knob is turned. If the data buffers are popped (not uncommon with an ESD event) then the port will appear dead or stuck. Barring a PC issue or dead port, it comes down to addressing. Mark K5LXP Albuquerque, NM

Stuck in Scan Mode
4
My -746PRO came on today on powerup in the SCAN mode, and I can't get it to turn off SCAN mode. * I can change from VFO to Memory, and it then scans Memory channels continuously. * I've tried the CPU Reset with no result, other than blank memory channels now. * Power cycling doesn't help. * I can change bands, and it just scans the selected band. * The Function Keys in the Scan menu will beep; Span and Set seem to work. Any ideas on getting it back out of SCAN mode? Thanks, Richard Schmidt, K1RS Scottsdale, AZ

Ic746 pro 1c151 related components and need for clear rf board schematic with values if possible?
3
I know everyone most likely tired of hearing about the IC151 death issue? .... So while I was replacing ic151 in my 746pro I noticed that the device that comes off pin 1 ( maybe a cap?) is missing... I know if was there when I started because I took a photo of the board before I began working on it. It is not in the after picture ? Where did it go? Problem is I cannot get a real clear picture of the schematic that has values of the components. Since that pin looks like the low rf input I would think it is most likely a capacitor to allow the RF to be amplified and come out on pin 5? The part I'm talking about is the one going off at right angle of pin 1? Anyone help me figure this out of have a schematic with values? And help on this would be appreciated... I have searched the entire rig to see if maybe it fell into the rig .. Nothing ..Ha bad day Ha HA ...Mike

Icom-746Pro only allow CTCSS tones to be enabled in memory 1
3
Today, I decided to use my 746PRO to access local 2 meter repeaters. It appears that CTCSS tones can only be enabled in memory 1. Different tones can be stored in other memories but the tone enable feature only works in memory 1. Maybe I am missing something. Bug or feature? - 73, Bernie VE3FW Ottawa, Canada

Relays in audio chain?
3
Every once in a while, like say if I've been casually operating in RTTY Roundup, some relay starts buzzing in the radio. It's worse when the external audio jack is connected to the audio mixer but still there. I pull audio for digital modes off ACC(1) and that audio is not affected - stations are still printing, even when the relay is buzzing. Percussive maintenance fixes it for a while, but that's loud enough (picking up the front of the radio and dropping in 2 cm to the shelf) to annoy the dogs, who bark, which annoys my SO ... RL740 on the schematic, near J740 (EXT Speaker jack) jumps out at me on the schematic in the SM but ... well ... Anyone else have this issue or hear of it? -- Peter Laws | VE[23]UWY / N5UWY | plaws0 gmail com | Travel by Train!

IC-746Pro RD100hhf1c Finals
7
Hello Group, I hope someone might have an addendum to the service manual, pertaining to the final amp section. This rig I picked up has one final blown. Much to my surprise when I lifted the metal cap to the final I discovered it to be an RD100hhf1, not the 2SC5125 as stated in service manual I have. I have no need for any troubleshooting help, I just need the schematic (final amp section) if anyone happens to have this info. Very much appreciate any help with this. I be on the phone Monday with Icom to see if they can sort this out. 73, Art NM1A

Wanted: 746 Pro Main (CPU) Board
2
I picked up a 746 Pro at a hamfest silly cheap sold as not transmitting. Seller said he thought he'd tracked it down to an issue with the CPU, which I confirmed last night (pin 127 is supposed to pull to 0V when in transmit, it just stays at 5V) so I believe if I can swap this board out I can get the rig going again. There are some (alleged) replacement chips on eBay but I'm loathe to trust the quality of the part or my SMD soldering skill to deal with a 128 pin part. So if anyone has a junker 746 Pro that has a good CPU board in it, let me know what you have. Looking to get this rig back up on the air. 73 Bart KZ4KF
