Another problem
Hello again. First, thanks for all the help so far. I have WSJTX and FLRIG working fine on my little ASUS box, but I have no audio when I try to watch You-Tube (r) videos. Anyone have a guide written on how to get the system to use the built-in audio card in a newer ASUS laptop? 73 Jim KI7AY -- 73 Jim,KI7AY la ciruela y cabeza de hueso en Panama

Newly flashed USB does not start (only Grub command line)
4
Hi group I have flashed a new USB stick with HamPC 3.0.1b1 (I have even booted Windows and used Rufus, as it was recommended in the file How_to_flash_image.txt), but when I try to start it, there is only a Grub screen with a bash-like command line, and it does not start. I tried it on three different laptops (two HPs and one Acer). On the HPs, there comes first a screen "Reset system" for one second, then, they reboot and then comes the Grub screen. Of course, I booted in UEFI mode, I even completely switched off the legacy boot possibility in the BIOS. Does anybody have (had) similar problems? What do I make false? 73 Udo, HB9ERD/DL3GN

Sleep mode.
3
Hello everyone! I love the HamPC distro and have it installed on my Panasonic Toughpad which works well except for one issue. After a few mins the display goes into sleep mode even when displayed on my TV! I have gone into the bios, all the settings in the distro like power management, display, Screensaver. Etc but I cannot prevent the sleep mode! I like to keep the hamclock displayed on my TV in the shack at all times but it is frustrating to have the display go into sleep mode every few mins! Any advice on how to fix this! Dave you have done a wonderful job on this distro and thank you for including the ham clock!

Installing HamPC's included software list to Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS
So; I have a PC I will be taking with me to install in my cottage shack, currently running Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS, and was thinking about what software to install on it. I noticed that the HamPC distribution contains a pretty comprehensive list of ham software for linux, but it comes as an image with an OS and bundled software. What I'd like, is to take the list of software included in HamPC and install it all on my Ubuntu PC without the tedium of installing each of the dozens of items separately. Is there a straightforward way to do this? I am not interested in overwriting my current Ubuntu installation with the HamPC image, nor am I interested in dual booting or VMs; I just think it's really neat that there's this nicely curated list of ham software available and I'd like to install it all to my preexisting setup rather than starting again from a clean slate. Thanks, Adrian VA3QAK

Ventoy usb boot menu tool.

Saw this on a tick tock of all places, figure this group will enjoy this tool as I did. https://www.ventoy.net/en/index.html you can load up multiple iso into a hot menu system handy for keeping a Swiss army of iso more manageable. kelly

Hello and the inevitable question
3
Hi to all. I am EI7CLB and have recently been experimenting with HamPi and Jason, KM4ACK's 'Build-a-Pi'. I have been waiting to install HamPC on the best computer I have. It has 8GB of RAM and a 2.7GHz octocore processor. It would be wonderful to try HamPC, and all it appears to offer, on this machine, which was gifted to me by my Brother - who I am still trying to persuade to get his ticket. I d'l'd the img and the img.xz that came with it. I am ready to go but I really will need a bit of help - 'Is there a guide?' - I suppose is the inevitable question. The machine is currently running Linux Mint. The 64GB card arrived in the post about 20 minutes ago. I SO want this to work. The best of days to you all. 73, Tryg --

Fixed image file for VM
6
Hi all, There was much discussion recently about the image available on sourceforge and how it didn't work for everybody, especially in VMs. I fixed the image using the following procedure. I did it on MacOS - if you want to replicate it on Windows please modify the commands according to your toolset. 1. Download original image and unpack. 2. Add 1MB to the image using dd if=/dev/zero bs=1m count=1 >> HamPC_v3.0.1b1.img 3. Create VMDK file for VirtualBox mapping the raw image as disk (which allows it to be used in VBox): VBoxManage internalcommands createrawvmdk -filename hampc.vmdk -rawdisk /full/path/to/HamPC_v3.0.1b1.img 4. Register the VMDK in VirtualBox in File -> Virtual Media Manager -> Add (find your VMDK) 5. Create VirtualMachine for Linux 64bit, 4GB of RAM, 4 processors, no disk. *Remember to enable EFI for it*. 6. Attach the VMDK. 7. Download and attach Ubuntu 22.04 LiveCD. 8. Boot from CD. 9. Add repository "universe", update repositories index with apt update, install testdisk package. 10. Use testdisk to find and fix issues with the disk GPT table. Commit changes. Check partitions with fsck. 11. Reboot and enjoy your new HamPC working on a VM... or download the fixed image file from shared folder under https://link.resilio.com/#f=HamPC-images&sz=51E8&t=1&s=7NV7C6L3EJ76VQBDVTIHZVWVLNZ54ZRE&i=C2SGDXRGBDJKCXJT5HAHFSCZWX66QVOON&v=2.7&a=2 and use it to replicate steps 3-6 from above. Note: Resilio is a file sharing software for creating private storage clouds. It is build by the same team of developers who created the bittorrent protocol. It can be used for free for private use. Reference for steps 8-11 - see attached screencast. Enjoy! MD5 of unpacked raw image file is 5e236ae6be735538ebce782a72205229

no OS found
8
I dont have a thumb drive or SD card large enough so I thought to plop the image right onto a 120G SATA SSD drive but whether I xzcat and dd the image onto the drive or if I blowup the xz and restore the image to the drive I get the same "no bootable OS found" error when looking at the drive after flashing I get the primary GPT image corrupt but backup is okay message in GParted and I let it fix it, but no joy I saw the doings using VirtualBox but I have no desire to go down that rabbit hole any progress? de k9wkj
