Re: Unlocking HamPC

John Hysell

The i7 version is out of stock, but if anyone is looking for a nice notebook to run hamPC on
DELL still has some i5 models with no OS for $239 shipped.

Then, I booted off of Xubuntu and had the same experience. Out-of-the-box XUbuntu sees the 7480 audio

I suspect either the process that I am using to install hamPC to the internal SSD drive is not working

My process was to boot LINT from a live USB and then use its image writing app to burn the hamPC
image to the internal SSD.

I see no audio devices and get no sound from the OS or any apps.
I tried adding drivers, but it does not seem to understand that audio hardware is present.

The audio works fine with MINT and Windoze 10, so I don't think the hardware is at fault.

At this time, I am burning a DVD to try bare bones Xubuntu 22.04.1 to see if it spots the audio hardware.
I will keep you posted.

Re: Unlocking HamPC

Ernie,

I'm glad you're enjoying life on the road... Btw, we had to pay a leasing fee of several hundred a month to park... Where are you finding $5/day camping? And where do you get your electricity and water and waste dumps?

Back to HamPC...

Are you sure the password you think?you're typing matches what is being entered into the password dialog?

Here's what I mean... On my Evolve III Maestro laptop, there is some sort of "Function Lock" engaged and when I type the letter "J" for example, a completely different letter/symbol/number is displayed on screen. I have to hold down the "Function" key to type the actual letters...

Can you try opening a word processor or other text editor and see if when you type the password, it actually matches what you typed?

Also, if you can't get wireless working, you can always plug in an Ethernet cable...as a workaround...

Thanks and 73,

Re: Unlocking HamPC

John,

If you are getting audio from Xubuntu 22.04 on the same PC where HamPC does not deliver audio, then there is something missing on HamPC, and I will need to investigate.

I want HamPC and HamPi to be the best they can be for all users. I am but one person, and I have a very limited selection of PCs available, so reports like yours are critical for me to identify and correct deficiencies. Thank you for your report.

Can you please file a bug report at ?

Audio worked fine with that. I listened to internet radio on the built-in speakers without issue.

Then, I booted off of Xubuntu and had the same experience. Out-of-the-box XUbuntu sees the 7480 audio
devices and loads the proper drivers.

I suspect either the process that I am using to install hamPC to the internal SSD drive is not working
or something may be missing in the hamPC image.

My process was to boot LINT from a live USB and then use its image writing app to burn the hamPC
image to the internal SSD.

I agree, the audio hardware would not seem to be the issue, rather the audio software components. If audio is also not present on Xubuntu 22.04, then I would say Xubuntu is the issue...

Further testing of the 3.0.1 image on the Latitude 7480 has revealed an issue.

Ernie,

I am beyond excited that you are able to run HamPC on an Intel-based Macbook Pro. You are the first user to tell me you have done so!

My XYL and I lived full time in a 40' RV for two years. Unfortunately, it was too cramped for the things we want to do -- such as play radio and antique computers and do "real" cooking... An RV kitchen is simply too limited for my XYL who is a gourmet chef. So we went back to brick-n-mortar living and got rid of the RV. We may rent an RV in the future or buy a tiny camper for vacations, however!

You did mention being unable to connect to the network. Can you provide any error messages and/or screen captures of error messages to show what is happening/not happening?

Thanks and 73,
