WTB SX-28 Cabinet
Testing the waters for a SX-28 cabinet intact and in good condition. The SX-28A I'm finishing up needs a nice cabinet to go with it. Let me know what you have. Thanks, Tom W3TA

I am looking for an SX146/HT46 station. I would prefer a nonfunctioning but complete and unmodified set. I intend to write a repair manual for each.

SR-150 PWR Supply
11
Hi Folks, Happy New Year, Replacing a garbage 18 gauge AC cord that someone installed in the power supply. I see the guy wired the neutral side to the fuse. I always thought the hot side went to the fuse, just like in the breaker panel. In a 110 VAC line, the "hot" wire should always be connected to the fuse in a device, not the neutral wire; meaning the fuse should be placed on the side of the line carrying the live current. Explanation: Safety: Placing the fuse on the hot wire ensures that when a fault occurs and the fuse blows, the appliance is completely de-energized, preventing potential shock hazards if someone touches the device while it's faulty. S-38C Question
5
Hey guys, was just about to replace the power supply filter in my S-38C. opened it up and found a blown up bumblee capacitor. The cap in question is C-27 a .02uF @600v which goes from one side of the line to the common ground ( NOT chassis ground). My question is, can this be replaced with a .047 uF "safety" capacitor, or is the value of .02uF critical? Please let me know as I do want to keep the old beast running. Thank you. Howard

1Re: TinySA Ultra follow-up

So is paying more gunna protect me any more? Thomas, no. But I, for one, don't mind throwing a few extra bucks at a purchase from a US-based brick & mortar seller. Sure was nice to drive 10 minutes to Radio Shack for that switch, transistor, or relay I needed for my project. YMMV 73, Jeff W8KZW Boatanchors since 1965

SX-117 HT-44 and PS-150-120 for sale
5
Looking to sell my SX-117-HT-44 set and my PS-150-120. Bought this set along with an SR-150 from a silent key ham friend, but really don’t have the room for all of these. Comes with manuals and the connection cables for running both units together. The power supply has a strong hum so i would think it needs recapped. The receiver is fantastic! Haven’t used the HT-44 yet. I ordered the injection cables but never did set it all up. Asking $400 for all of it. Local pickup only please near St Louis MO. Can send plenty more pictures.

CW Chirp
3
I apologize for coming back here and begging for help with yet another thorny HT-46 problem, but I am at wits end. The VFO drift problem is solved and now I am addressing the chirpy CW note. I listened to the VFO with a general coverage receiver and hear little or no frequency change at key down, but I don’t know where else the chirp could be coming from. I’m testing on 80M so the heterodyne oscillator is out of play. I have listened to the carrier oscillator and it does not vary. Perhaps most telling is that when I transmit using the SX-146 receiver VFO in slave mode, there is no chirp. I thought VFO screen voltage might be the problem but I changed the OA2 with a NOS tube and that didn’t help. I even built up a solid state screen voltage regulator and installed it in place of the screen resistor. Screen voltage is now rock solid but there was little or no improvement in the chirp. To demonstrate the problem I attached an audio clip from a WEB SDR where I transmitted using the receiver VFO and then using the transmitter VFO. I don’t know if 开云体育 allows .wav attachments but it seemed to upload OK. Any suggestions are welcome. 73 – Jerry – W0PWE

Stuck ferrite coils
4
Hi all, I know this is a generic question and there's many variables but I thought I'd try. What are some of you guy's tricks to free up stuck ferrite coils? I may have a stuck coil but I'm not sure. It's not in a Hallicrafters but I do know it's kinda a common thing. BTW, it's not from wax. Thanks, 73, and Happy New Year! Bob W4JFA

A good start
10
Life is good. Have an SR-500 on the work bench. I turned it on and set the dial to 7.175. Set the AF and RF gain to max and let it warm up. In the meantime, I unboxed my new TinySA ultra. Ureka, it passed the self-test. Ureka, level cal, no problem. Selected low out, set the frequency to 7.175, set the ultra output to -33db, set the external step attenuator for -40db. I then turned the low gen on and HU RAH the S-meter went to S9 and the audio output meter/load registered 2watts. It was right there I didn't even have to retune the 500. Question for SX-122 Owners
6
Making good strides with mine, working some issues with alignment. I'm wanting to know if the situation with the bandspread below is normal, or if I'm doing something wrong: Bandspread Set, and plates fully meshed: Plates fully open, but Bandspread stops at 3.95 but I can see 4.0 further to the right. Do I have something backwards? Thanks, Fraser, W3UTD

1648.550KHz LSB XTAL FOR SR2000

Anyone out there have a LSB carrier xtal 1648.550KHz they would part with. And yes, I have already checked with AF4K and several other sites, no joy. Missing Crystals in the SR-150
3
Hi folks, Does anyone have a source for crystals for the SR - 150? As seen in the recent picture the xtal in the first 10-meter band slot is wrong. It is a 3.5MHz xtal and should be 34.500MHz. The 35.500MHZ is just missing. Thanks, dave wa3gin

SX-115 signals lower on USB than LSB
3
Twenty-six years ago I collected the components for a classic Hallicrafters station. The HT-33A amplifier was sold before I moved cross-country in 2020 (just too heavy) but I finally got around to putting the station together a few weeks ago. The SX-88, SX-115 and HT-32B are all original - and with just cleaning the switches/pots and checking the tubes, work great. The HT-32B is putting out 90 watts, and with a Turner 350D HI mic, gets good audio reports. The only issue is USB signals on the SX-115 are noticeably weaker than on LSB by about 3 S-units. Before I start digging in, has anyone on the list experienced a similar issue and knows how to resolve? Thanks to all and Happy Holidays, de Norm - WA3KEY norm@...

SR-150 RENO
2
Hi Folks, I've started to restore a nice SR-150. Never had one before. I noticed the crystal for 3.5 is missing. From the dust pattern it appears that the crystal was never installed. Also, I noticed under relay K1 a very cool adjustment device on one of the relay contacts that has this contact making prior to the other contact with the use of a tiny adjustment pushpad on the relay swing arm. Anyone know what is the magic going on here with these cascaded relay contacts? Thoughts Welcome and 73 dave wa3gin

S-41G or W or Echophone EC-1A good picture of dial face
5
Never have found a source yet for a replacement dial face for my S41G. This receiver works good and is in excellent physical condition except for the faded dial face. I wonder if anyone has a S41"W" model (white dial), or the Echophone EC-1 with a good dial face that could be photographed such that I could make a new dial face from an emailed attached photo? It's not a premium radio of the past, but is in good enough condition to try to improve the dial face. I also have a good S-20R and a SX101 and a number of other "golden oldies" to go with my "rice boxes". Your assistance would be appreciated. CW Sidetone ideas
16
Good day all I enjoy using various vintage "separates" on CW, with a bug. The common issue is what to do for sidetone when using a straight key or bug. Typically, not music the Rx, and have a fast hand on the RF gain control works well. But, Collins and Drake have a sidetone. Has anyone added a sidetone to HT44/ SX117 or HT32B/SX101 SX115 combos? 73 W8tow

HT-44 Common Problem?
6
This is the second HT-44 where I've run into this problem. I use the HT-44 heavily on CW and my current one has logged hundreds of QSOs in contests. The other day it suddenly had no output on any band, same symptom observed on another HT-44 I owned. In digging into the problem, I found the cause to be the same as on the other HT-44. Resistors R16 and R17 (22K , 2 watt) were cooked and V3, a 12BH7 associated with those resistors tested weak. I replaced the resistors and the 12BH7 and now all is well again. Had to adjust the pots to null the carrier for SSB. I wonder if others have experienced that problem? Not sure if the cause of the failure was the tube, or maybe the two resistors are undersized for the current? 73, Floyd - K8AC
