John, can't help much with the alignment, but on other Halli's I have worked on, found that a hair dryer is a good bet on slugs that have wax above them... Simply invert the chassis (easier said than done), and melt the wax. Might be easier to leave chassis upright and blow the melted wax out.? Either way, you now have unrestricted access to the slugs...
