Wouldn't be simpler to just extend the wires that need it? A bit of
shrink tubing will insulate them at the joint. Rebuilding the new caps
sounds like a royal PITA.

the barrel on the aluminum strap (THIS gives you something to solder
onto!!), match up the lead arrangement and length, and after they're
together, using some REAL diuct tape (the FOIL type), put the top back
on and you're done, save for resoldering.? Note:? Mark the halves before
disassembly, so they fit well.
