Intermittent error
#hp8920b
Hi I have got an intermittent error with my HP8920B. The error is "Receiver assembly (low)".
Could someone please provide some clarity on this issue. Thanks in advance! |
Thank you, Alexander, for your email. Pls note that as I wrote in my previous, in the next step I will try with a sync separator. But I think that reporting this easy way to get a picture to the monitor, should prove a good
first step for many that otherwise might drop their efforts; and for others, including me, is a QnD solution when needed. 73 Yiannis SV1MNE ¦²¦Ó¦É? ¦°?¦Ì, 12 ¦¡¦Ô¦Ã 2021 ¦Ò¦Ó¦É? 6:57 ¦Ð.¦Ì., ¦Ï/¦Ç Alexandre Souza <alexandre.tabajara@...> ?¦Ã¦Ñ¦Á¦×¦Å: 08/08/2021 12:10, sv1mne wrote: |

Hi Alexander, it definitely works without a sync separator, via the Y Composite input (at least on my GBS8200)
The picture I get is exactly as yours in "A proposito, ninguem questionou "e se colocar o video composto na entrada da controladora do LCD? Claro que eu tentei, olha a meleca que fica =D" Look at the pictures I have posted in my SV1MNE folder in Photos section. (/g/HP8924-Family-Spectrum-Analyzers/album?id=241724) Best R Yiannis |
It does not work, you gotta use a sync separator and inject composite video on g (or r or b) input of analog video and composite sync on sync input.

Hi Alexandre and friends,
The connection I made is as follows: 1. From HP8924c video out (BNC) to GBS8200 Y-video in (RCA) with BNC cable and BNC to RCA adapter 2. From GBS8200 VGA out to Samsung Monitor/TV VGA/PC input with standard VGA cable 3. The GBS8200 is set o YPbPr mode. As it is shown in the photos I uploaded, it works almost well, for practical purposes, but the display is offset to the left, missing three text columns. (Maybe this will be corrected with the sync separator). Thank you for the nice work and leading us to a solution! Best R Yiannis SV1MNE |

You may be able to shrink it in your Monitor's setup H-Size and H-Center

Hi again,
My GBS 8200 V4.0 has arrived and I managed to get a display on my Samsung TV monitor directly from the video RCA connector. The image is crisp and steady,? Black and White, which is nice btw. The only problem is that it is shifted on tha lest and a portion abt 3 text colums, does not display. Uploaded photos in SV1MNE folder. Next I will try with a sync separator. 73 Yiannis |

Re: Loading RFTOOLS files into an 8920A
Hi Robert,
Yes. That is the program that I have been using to convert the DOS formatted files into LIF formatted files. That doesn¡¯t seem to be the problem, though as I get the same result whether the disk is DOS or LIF formatted. I wonder if it has anything to do with the ¡°new¡± file name? Do you know if the order of the files matters? Any other thoughts? Thank you for your help! Brian |
Re: List of capacitors to rebuild HP 8920A power supply
I might add that all of the electrolytic capacitors in my 1992-1993 era HP 8920A power supply were leaking nasty smelling electrolyte.?
If you haven't done so, I'd suggest re-capping your power supply before the leaking electrolyte destroys the circuit board.? I caught mine in just a nick of time.?? The Nichicon capacitors in the list that I provided are all of very high quality and are rated at105C.? They should provide many years of service.? With the exception of the 47 uF capacitors, they will all fit into the circuit board perfectly and will be roughly the same size as the original Rubycon capacitors. Brian |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýAnyone have a parts list for the 8935. ?I need to rebuild mine and it would save time if I can order them before I pull the supply. Thanks. KE6CD? On Jul 22, 2021, at 10:36 AM, Brian J. Henry <bhenry@...> wrote:

Loading RFTOOLS files into an 8920A
I just acquired a relatively early HP 8920A? (s/n 3291U00211) that had a defective power supply.? Once all of the electrolytic capacitors were replaced, it started up and passed all of its self tests!
Now, I am trying to figure out how to successfully load the RFTOOLS Procedures from the files posted here using an HP 9122C disk drive.? I have had some success, but have run into a road block and I don't know how to proceed. It would seem that the RFTOOLS Procedures that are posted in the Files section came from an HP 8920B since they use DOS file naming conventions.? Apparently, the HP 8920A expects the Procedure files to use LIF file naming conventions based on this information from the Programming Guide: The Test Set¡¯s TESTS Subsystem uses the following file naming conventions:
? The c prefix is used to indicate a code file and is automatically prefixed onto the file
name when the program code file is stored for use by the TESTS subsystem.
? The p prefix is used to indicate a procedure file and is prefixed onto the file name when
the file is stored by the TESTS Subsystem
? The l prefix is used to indicate a library file and is prefixed onto the file name when the
file is created by the Program Development System for use with the TESTS Subsystem. Armed with this information, I renamed the RFTOOLS files from: RFTOOLS.LIB? ==> lRFTOOOLS RFTOOLS.PGM ==> cRFTOOLS RFTOOLS.PRC ==> pRFTOOLS Once I made these changes, the RFTOOLS "Procedure File Name:" appears in the Load Test Procedures menu, but the Library does not. When I try to run the Procedure and I get the following error message: "Error reading procedure file.? Check file and media." I have tried loading them into the HP 8920A using both a LIF formatted disk and a DOS formatted disk and I get the same result with both.? I get the same result with all of the other RF Tools program files as well. I am wondering if the HP 11807A files for the HP 8920A are configured or coded differently from the HP 11807E files for the HP 8920B? Does anyone have any thoughts as to what might be the secret to getting the RFTOOLS files properly loaded into the HP 8920A using an HP 9122C disk drive? Thanks! Brian |
