HP 3310A Function Generator - Problem
I managed to switch off and on my trusty HP 3310A yesterday while it was connected to an audio system (not good practise!) and it now refuses to generate a signal from the low/high outputs. The mains indicator light comes on and the fuse appears OK. I don't have a circuit diagram. Can anyone help me to get my 3310A operational again please? Thanks in anticipation. David Jarman

Digest Number 101
Jack, I have the military model designation cross-references for most or all of the equipment on your list, which I will email to you. Even better, I have spent a LOT of time ferreting-out any downloadable HP manuals that are available. I will send you a list of all of the URLs for manuals that I have found so far, for the equipment on your list, as soon as I can get time. Some of these manuals are *extremely* difficult to find. Just knowing the military designations and the URLs for the military manuals sites does not even begin to get you there, in many cases. Take a look at the list of manuals that I have already found, at http://www.fullnet.com/u/tomg/manuals.htm . If some that you need aren't there, I will see if I can find them. P.S. I also have a copy of the FedLog (Federal Logistics) Database, with which I can usually find commercial and military part number/model designation cross-references for a given military for commercial part number or model designation. And that's not just for *equipment* numbers. It also contains most *individual* part numbers! Often, for example, a semiconductor that is just marked with an HP part number can be identified completely, from the database, resulting in a list of commercial part numbers and manufacturers' names, and sometimes the technical specs of the device, etc. And the database seems to contain everything from mule harnesses and horse whips (and where to get them, hehe) to modern ICs and systems (up through about 2002 or so, anyway). So, if anyone would like me to attemp a part-number xref, email me. By the way: I have an HP 608D, too (and all THREE of the military PDF manuals for it). It's a big, gorgeous 0.5 MHz to 510 MHz signal generator (or, in some cases, apparently, 10 MHz to 410 Mhz). Mine was still almost perfectly calibrated, when I got it! (It's for SALE, too...). That one (the HP 608D) is also known as the AN/USM-44A, with the primary unit also known as the TS-510A/U. Regards, Tom Gootee (tomg AT fullnet.com)

HP 4260A Parts needed
2
Hello group (Hello Tom Gootee!!) This is my almost first post... I own a nice 4260A universal bridge, it has an issue with R3, the big rotating resistor behind the counter assembly. STUPID small wire joining the resistor assembly to the post. Anyone have one of the parts? I need this unit to operate so I can continue making inductors - my hobby / business. I have had a look at Sphere, but they dont list any 4260 parts. Any help would be much appreciated. Rod, from the outback in Western Australia.

HP 4260 Thanks for Help
Hello again, I have already received a number of replies about my sick 4260A. Thanks to the group for their efforts and to the individuals for trying to obtain parts or another unit for me. Being located where I am, it is almost impossible to obtain parts for anything, let alone an obscure, old piece of test equipment. I am also looking on ebay, so if anyone spots a 4260A anywhere, let me know, although just the resistor would be better due to the high cost of postage to Australia. Thanks again, Rod.

follow-up - HP 3439A
2
The HP 3439A has been repaired. It was C8 on A9 that had failed. I then zeroed the readout it using a calibration procedure found at https://www.logsa.army.mil/etms/find_etm.cfm. Thanks to everyone who replied. I also have a service manual on the way to me from Joe VE7LBI. Question - I zero the readout after a 30minute warmup. All ranges read 0000 with the + & - flashing alternately. The Int Check -8000 is also set per the precedure. It will stay like that (zeroed) all day. If I turn it off then back on the next day - the zero calibration is off - not by much - sometimes +0001 or -0002. I can zero it again - and it will stay like that all day. Is this normal or am I being anal about a +35 year old instrument? hp 5100A /5110A synth set
10
Hi all, I'm new to this group, but not so new to vintage HP and other test equipment. I'm sure there are a few familar names here! I have recently found a nice clean 5100A/5110A synthesizer set and would like to get it up & running. I tried the 5110A and found two problems: 1. The 1 MHz output is fine but none of the other outputs are there 2. The oven temp meter reading just keeps getting higher & higher till the meter goes off scale...obviously I have not left it in standby mode! Help! I really need some advice and especially a set of manuals. I am located in Melbourne Australia and would be happy to pay for copying & postage costs if anyone can help. Thanks, Morris Odell

Introduction

Greetings All, I am a new member of the group and am looking forward to an enjoyable time here. I have a large inventory of HP boat anchors which I want to dispose of. Some I want to sell as functional units, others might get parted out if there is any market for these parts. There are over 60 units consisting of these models: 130C, 140A, 1900A, 200CD, 214A, 302B, 342A, 400D, 400H, 411A, 415B, 428A, 431B, 5210A, 523C, 606A, 608C, 608D, 612A, 614A, 616A, 618B, 626A, 694A, 851B, 8690A, and probably a few others. Any suggestions for disposing of this would be appreciated. I also need manuals for most models and there are just too many to buy them. I think that there are downloadable manuals for the equivalent military units but I don't know the military model numbers. Is there a cross reference list available? Thanks, Jack

Another go...parts needed
Hello again group, I am again asking if anyone has, or knows of any HP 4260A Universal Bridge units for sale, parts for sale or where I might find them. I have an HP 4260A that needs the main rotating resistor (R3 - part number 0428-7025), but is in otherwise good condition. Thanks for any help, Rod.

Anybody have HPIB codes for 5005B Signature Multimeter?
I am looking for the HPIB (IEEE-488) commands for a 5005B Signature Multimeter. Usually, summaries of these codes are given on one page of the manual. Any help would be appreciated! Tom Leedy Clarksburg, MD 20871 leedyt@...

8750A Normalizer
Hello Henry, Take the coversm off of the 8750A and look and see if the other interface board is attached to the bottom of one of the covers. The standard unit comes with two interface boards and you may find the spectrum analyzer board inside. I have two or three of these and all of them have a complete complement of cards so you have a chance at finding the one that you need for the 141. Also I have used the GLK cables and they work quite well. You could buy the parts at one time from Newark Electronics and make it yourself but if you don't have the crimping tools for the coaxial connectors it's not worth the effort since the component parts are not cheap either especially if you mess some up trying to make the cable. Good luck and let us know how you made out. Sam W3OHM hp_agilent_equipment@... wrote:

saga of the SRD
2
Hi all, I have been working on a 5110A synth driver with a problem of no output. After getting a manual I diagnosed a failure of the Step Recovery Diode in the harmonic generator and sure 'nough, it's open circuited. (Why is it always these rare parts that fail - SRDs, tunnel diodes , avalanche transistors...Murphy's list goes on and on...) Following advice on this list, I tried several diodes using clip- leads. I was able to get nice spikes from a couple of different low freq tuning diodes but still no output from succeeding stages. The best result is with an unlabelled miniature tuning diode which gives positive going spikes 30 nS wide and 1 volt in amplitude at the cathode of the diode. These parameters would improve further if the diode was properly mounted on the PCB. After passing through the HP filter network however there is nothing visible at the emitter of the pulse amplifier transistor and no output. The transistor is a zero biased common base connected 2N1143 which is a Ge pnp with a Ft of 200 MHz - another unobtainable Murphy favourite :-( Removing it for testing requires messy surgery. Any ideas? Have any of the mavens here actually measured the pulse parameters in this circuit? Is the transistor faulty or is there just not enough drive to the amplifier? Unfortunately the manual is silent on the subject. On the bright side, I'm learning a lot (small consolation). Any help appreciated, Morris

HP 5110B Driver
Greetings everyone. Morris has kindly donated to me an HP5100B synthesizer. Unfortunately the matching HP5110B Driver was not part of the package (the original 5110B having now gone to that great scrapyard in the sky), and I'm desperately seeking a replacement. Nothing of course on e-Bay. So if anyone has a 5110B driver surplus to their requirements that I can beg, borrow or steal (or buy for that matter)I would be most grateful to hear from you. It need not be working or even complete, as long as there is a reasonable chance it could be repaired. Can somebody help? Thanks Rob Fincher VK3BRF Find local movie times and trailers on Yahoo! hp 5100A /5110A synth set Spectrum Generator
4
Hi: As an alternative to using a Step Recovery Diode to generate the harmonics it may be possible to use a modified A45 Module from a PRC-77 military radio. The A45 Module is called "One-megacycle spectrum generator" and uses a PNP 2N2273 transistor to generate the harmonics with a fairly simple circuit powered by +10 Volts. In the theory of operation TM 11-5820-667-35 pg 2-22.3 "The sinusoidal 1-mc oscillations are applied to spectrum generator Q2 (2N2273) through coupling capacitor C3 (10 uuF) . The spectrum generator is normally cut off by the reverse base bias applied through R4 (19k), and conducts only on the negative half cycles of the 1-mc signal. A positive pulse, rich in harmonics, is developed across transformer T2 and coupled to first mixer module A44. This might be an excellent replacement for the impossible to get SRD. 73, Brooke Clarke, N6GCE http://www.PRC68.com
