Greetings All,
I am a new member of the group and am looking forward to an enjoyable time here.
I have a large inventory of HP boat anchors which I want to dispose of. Some I want to sell as functional units, others might get parted out if there is any market for these parts. There are over 60 units consisting of these models: 130C, 140A, 1900A, 200CD, 214A, 302B, 342A, 400D, 400H, 411A, 415B, 428A, 431B, 5210A, 523C, 606A, 608C, 608D, 612A, 614A, 616A, 618B, 626A, 694A, 851B, 8690A, and probably a few others.
Any suggestions for disposing of this would be appreciated. I also need manuals for most models and there are just too many to buy them. I think that there are downloadable manuals for the equivalent military units but I don't know the military model numbers. Is there a cross reference list available?
Thanks,
Jack

Hi Robert,
I have two HP scopes. One is a 130C, which I will probably keep, at least for now. The other is a 140A with 1405A and 1420A plug ins. I will sell the 140A but at this time I have no idea what condition it is in, either cosmetically or functionally. If you are interested in the 140A let me know and I will check it out and get back to you.
I also have an 851B Spectrum Analyzer Display, but I only have the display, not the rest of the unit. I will probably scrap the 851B for parts so if you need any knobs or other scope parts contained in the display unit I might be able to help you.
With best wishes,
Jack

Jack,
I have the military model designation cross-references for most or all of the equipment on your list, which I will email to you.
Even better, I have spent a LOT of time ferreting-out any downloadable HP manuals that are available. I will send you a list of all of the URLs for manuals that I have found so far, for the equipment on your list, as soon as I can get time.
Some of these manuals are *extremely* difficult to find. Just knowing the military designations and the URLs for the military manuals sites does not even begin to get you there, in many cases.
Take a look at the list of manuals that I have already found, at . If some that you need aren't there, I will see if I can find them.
P.S. I also have a copy of the FedLog (Federal Logistics) Database, with which I can usually find commercial and military part number/model designation cross-references for a given military for commercial part number or model designation. And that's not just for *equipment* numbers. It also contains most *individual* part numbers! Often, for example, a semiconductor that is just marked with an HP part number can be identified completely, from the database, resulting in a list of commercial part numbers and manufacturers' names, and sometimes the technical specs of the device, etc. And the database seems to contain everything from mule harnesses and horse whips (and where to get them, hehe) to modern ICs and systems (up through about 2002 or so, anyway). So, if anyone would like me to attemp a part-number xref, email me.
By the way: I have an HP 608D, too (and all THREE of the military PDF manuals for it). It's a big, gorgeous 0.5 MHz to 510 MHz signal generator (or, in some cases, apparently, 10 MHz to 410 Mhz). Mine was still almost perfectly calibrated, when I got it! (It's for SALE, too...). That one (the HP 608D) is also known as the AN/USM-44A, with the primary unit also known as the TS-510A/U.
Regards,
Tom Gootee (tomg AT fullnet.com)

Hello Jack.
?
Thank you for getting back to me. I could be
interested in the 140A and also the 851B. Is there a possibility that you could
send some photos of both? When your time permits please let me
know.
?
Also, when you do happen to run accross any of the
military versions that I have mentioned in my e-mail, (heavy rascals!). Thanks
for your time and for your efforts and you and yours have a great
day.

Hi Robert,
I got out the 140A and found it to not be worth fooling with. The top, bottom, and one side cover are missing along with both handles. It looks like it was being used for parts to repair other units. The plugins do seem ok, but I can't test them without the 140A. Both plugins are now on eBay, auctions 3817471981 and 3817472794. I'll give you a report on the 851B when I get to it.
Best wishes,
Jack

Opps, sorry about that. I meant to reply privately and sent to the list instead. Looks like I have done that more than once. Aside from that, thanks to everyone who responded, on and off list, to my introduction. The comments and suggestions were helpful and are appreciated. Finally, I found a documentation source which I don't recall seeing mentioned before -- . I was about to purchase something but had a question. I sent an email, but received no response. Does anyone know anything about this outfit? Jack Jack Crone wrote: Hi Robert, I got out the 140A and found it to not be worth fooling with. <snip>
