Keysight VNA Cal Kit definitions webpage is missing

I tried to visit??and the page is gone.

I was hoping to download some cal kit definitions for my 8753D.

The wayback machine has a copy of the page from March, but sadly the archive does not include the cal kit zip files.?

Jeff,

There is a utility called VNA Cal Kit Manager (or something very similar). It has most of the kit constants and allows you to download them into the 8753. The utility was written by a HP engineer who was part of the 8753 design team, so you can safely assume that the data is correct. There used to be a web site for that software, you may be able to find it.

What kit are you trying to load ?? the 8753D had some kits preloaded if I remember correctly

Lothar,

?

I was planning to download all of the .ck zip files for the 8753D so I would have them for future reference. Apparently I waited a little bit too long to download the files..

?

Specifically, today I am looking for the definitions for the 85032F.? The .ck files are in a zip file .zip which is no longer available for download.

?

I do have the zip file for the 85033E if anyone is looking for those files.

Vladan,

?

This is very helpful information, thank you. I haven’t used this tool before but I was able to get it up and running and it looks like I can use it to create my own .ck files for the 8753.

?

Thanks again,

Jeff

Lothar,

?

Thanks for this info, this is very helpful!

I wish they had also included the .ck files, as that would save a lot of unnecessary data entry.

It looks like the VNA cal kit tool that Vladan mentioned also includes the definitions, so that will save a lot of typing. ?I’ll have to cross check and see if the numbers in this document agree with those in the tool.

I seem to recall a post on this mailing list wherein Keysight changed the definitions for the 85033F at various times, so I suspect there might be some differences in the stored standards between the various tools.

?

It is a shame that the old webpage is gone because it was a nice and concise reference. Hopefully it comes back at some point, although it seems like Keysight is shutting down the PNA support site later this month. “Important Notice: This site will cease to exist on?31 May 2022.”

?

Thanks again for the help.

Jeff,

The PNA as far as I understand is considered “legacy” now and agilent pushes newer generations like the PNA-X , those already have the calkit definitions for a bunch of Agilent and Maury kits already installed !

Personally I always preferred maury kits over agilent mostly because I can use them with rohde and agilent equipment and generally replacement parts are not quite as pricey as agilent stuff is , another selling point to me is that they don’t use slotless connectors .

The biggest issue with slotless connectors is that the female includes a collet and those collets are easily damaged , used to agilent sold replacement collets and a repair kit at a reasonable price but now they jacked up the price so much you might as well buy a new female standard

Here is something to keep in mind. You may find different published constants for the same standard(s), depending on which analyzer is used. This may seem wrong, but calibration standard constants are a best fit over a certain frequency range. This means that a 3 or 6 GHz 8753 will use a definition which is optimized for that frequency range (actually 9 GHz). The same calibration hardware could also be available for use ona 8510 or PNA, which has a wider frequency range. For those anaylizers, a different set of constants will have been generated with the goal of optimizing the constants over a broader frequency range. As a result, you are better off using the constants that are optimized for your analyzer. In other words, you are not improving anything by manually loading the 8510 or PNA constants into the 8753 if a file already exists for the 8753.

Anyway, this is the reason you will find different constants for the same standards.

I am not sure where you see different constants for the same standards , usually calibration kit standard definitions are pretty straightforward and – unless you are using a TRL kit – do not contain frequency limitations of any sort !

So a 85052D short will have the same constant no matter which kit you are looking at ,? you can enter the definitions in a 8510 or PNA or rohde ZVA and it will work ok ,? the only time you have different constants is if you compare a 85052A with a B or D kit or a 85033A with a D , same goes for the 85032B and F the main reason for this is simply that the standards changed , the 85052A kit used maury standards so did the 85033C but then with the newer kits agilent produced their own

That website is going away and it is not due to Keysight.? I started that website in 2003 so that all PNAs could automatically check for firmware updates and automatically download them.? The server was eventually used by many other Keysight groups.? Unfortunately, the company that hosts it (Sonic.net) has decided to exit that hosting business and they are the ones forcing the closure of the website.? Most of the information is being transferred to normal Keysight websites, however not all will be.? Keysight wants people to subscribe to it's Keysight Care program in order to obtain firmware updates, so the free updates were going to go away anyway.? I am not happy about this but there is nothing I can do.? Having all the PNA support information in one location was nice, but now you will have to search the entire Keysight web for the info you need.? I am sure a lot of the information, such as FAQs, will not get transferred over.? Download what you can while it is still up and running for the next 11 days.

Have you tried this?

Caesar,

Thank you so much for making all of this information available for users of the legacy VNAs. I have used your site at various times over the years and it has always been very helpful.
Sorry to hear about the hosting issues. I wish I could have grabbed a copy of everything before it started to disappear, but I'll try to save a copy of what's left before it's gone forever.

Thanks again, your efforts are appreciated.
Jeff

Caesar,

I grabbed a copy of this the other day, thank you. I was hoping to find copies of the various cal kit definition zip files that were formerly hosted on the site, as I've used these in the past, but I have since learned that I can recreate these using the tools that are available.
I've used the 8753 series intermittently for over twenty years and I am still learning things.

Thanks again,
Jeff

All -
Did I miss something I'm looking for a copy of the CAL KIT EDITOR - looked at the links that went buy but did not find a copy - does anyone have a copy tot the CAL KIT COEFFICIENTS editor ??

If so, please let me know where.

Cheers!

Just a heads up to folks following this thread, the firmware revision history pages for the 8753 are gone as well. ?

?

There’s an archived copy here but sadly the links to the firmware images are broken:
