Hp 8720ES firmware.

I am working on a Hp 8720ES tha does not startup fully so it could be the firmware that is corrupt. It is the newer Board. I do not see any Eprom with labels on. Does anyone have Firmware and maybe how to download it to the board.? I know there is a Windows
based version on agilents homepage. But seem not to work.
and help is much apriciated.

Hello Razvan thanks for mail. I wonder if the CPU card from a 8753E or 8753ES with same number will work if the correct firmware is downloaded. I have one 8720ES that does not boot fully. If adding a 8753E CPU board it boots but as 8753E that will not work
of course to do different HW,

From what I know the hardware from 8753E is close or the same as 8702E.

The 8720ES has different hardware. Some parts might be the same but there are some differences. The CPU card of the 8720ES I know it is the same as 8753ES and even the part number of the board is 08753-60272. hello I have the 08753-60272 CPU in the 8720ES it is strange it boots partly but not the instrument part. But buttons work and it writes 8720on the screen. Where is the difference stored if it should be a 8720 or 8753 system. you know a setting where it can
be changed ?

Intel flash or on the PLCC ICs which are on the same board. U201 and U205 are related to DSP firmware. If the original CPU board doesn't boot fully it can also be the SRAM ICs that failed. They are tested during power on and if there is a fail the CPU board is stuck in a loop. I saw some 8753ES CPU boards on eBay with those SRAM chips failed. There is no CLIP for any of the E or ES models as far as I know.

Hi all,
8753D has an older Motorola CPU than the E/ES/ET revisions and updated CPU board with flash memory instead of UV-EPROM for the firmware. Peter I suggest that you desolder the EEPROMS on both CPU boards, read them with an EEPROM programmer and use the image from the 8720 in the 8753 CPU board. 8720ES firmware v7.74 should be downloadable from Keysight or KO4BB site. I can provide EEPROM save files from a 8722ES if you think that can be useful. It should be easy to convert that to an binary image a EEPROM programmer can use. I did that and the reverse during my 8753D adventures. Best regards Marcus |

If you want the 08753-60272 CPU board to work in a "ES", you will have to load FW 7.6 or higher. The final FW version for the ES was 7.74. Vladan |

Hello I got a microwave switch from General Microwave model 1699. It is a pin diode switch 0.1Ghz to 20Ghz.?
It comes from a hp 8720B They are used to switch around the RF path in the source. Would I be so lucky you know what voltages is needed to operate the switch without ruining the switch
