Re: Available: replacement brass gear sets for the 8640B
That shouldn't be hard to do. :) I have an older model and, for some reason, the gears have held up well in it. Those do appear to be nice replacements. Good job. Thanks, Barry - N4BUQ

Available: replacement brass gear sets for the 8640B
Dear friends, Not surprisingly, I discovered that my 1983 model 8640B signal generator bought on eBay suffered from the infamous problem of cracked combination/spur gears. It was not too bad and I

Re: HP 54542C Scope
Hi Michael, thanks for your update. I have got a 54542A which is widely identical to the 54542c and I had similar problems in 2013. In my case the problem was induced by an unstable -12V supply. Look

Spare 8662A A2 front left DCU Cover?
I bought a 8662A with missing left DCU cover. This is the cover over the sweep card not the GPIB/CPU/RAM/ROM. Anyone have one to spare? Eric Haskell

Re: HP 54542C Scope
Hello again, Here's an update on the HP 54542C. First, I want to recap, this rig seems to be working, all functions as far as I can tell. The noise, which is superimposed on the trace is random but

Re: Looking for a replacement part for HP 721A
Precisely - I would look for a base-collector short in Q4. That would lower the current limiting resistance to about 560 ohms and increase the current through CR7 by a factor of about 40. Dale H.

Re: Looking for a replacement part for HP 721A
Classic thinking Dale !.....zeners usually have a resistor in series to determine the current.....it must have taken excess current to smoke.........that generally can't come though the resistor (they

Greetings, Circa 1 year ago I replaced the monochrome display on my 8753A VNA for a spiffy Simmconn Labs LCD. The monochrome display was in excellent shape, I was just tired of green on green. It

Re: Looking for a replacement part for HP 721A
Looks like a 7V zener.? You can probably substitute a 6.8 or 7.5V unit, maybe 250 mW.? If you want to get close to 7V you can measure a few to see if you can find one close enough.? Not a critical

Re: Looking for a replacement part for HP 721A
Later production calls for an HP 1902-0190 7.5 volt +/- 5% Zener for CR7. You will very likely smoke the replacement unless you first determine and repair the cause of the diode failure. Dale H. Cook,

Re: HP 54542C Scope
If you suspect power line ripple, you can set up a signal where you see some noise and then switch triggering to "line". If the noise is mostly stable, it is power line noise (probably 120Hz versus
