Not surprisingly, I discovered that my 1983 model 8640B signal generator bought on eBay suffered from the infamous problem of cracked combination/spur gears. It was not too bad and I managed to glue things up again, discovering some additional gotchas that I contributed to the page at . Meanwhile I decided to have the gears reverse engineered at a local machine shop, and have a set of replicas in brass. I now have a sample run that seems to work pretty well. I have 3 sets (3 gears each) to spare at the moment and will be getting more made soon. If interested, please message me; will be happy to answer questions. In fact, options of aluminum and phosphor bronze also available and I'd like to know if 8640B users think one of those will make a better option. If there is sufficient interest I can reverse engineer all of the other gears in the assembly so as to offer a 100% brass replacement.
