Re: Looking for HP Cartridge TAPE DRIVE

Not sure, but I think so - I'm hoping there is a plug on the wires from the drive, but if not, I can maybe do something with it. Drive from one of the older protocol analyzers would be better if you happen to have one of those. What do you want for it. Could you send some pictures? Cheers! Anybody have an HP cartridge tape drive from any of the following (or possible similar units) 8510B, 4951A, 4951B, 4955, etc.
I'd like to get one for parts. |
Re: HP 3580A Spectrum Analyzer - broken frequency display
Hi Marco,
I also had issues with the display on one of my HP3580A units and I built a replacement display board. My repair video is on Youtube? and the time stamps 6:00 and 12:36 have content relating to the display. I also have a few spare blank PCBs. Note, none of the 3580A schematics I could find match the display in my 3580A. Regards, Peter |

Re: Desoldering wire wrapped turrets in HP gear
Tony-
I run into those (and similar situations) fairly often and I have had success using my Hakko 301 (worth every penny!)? With the right tip, is has very fast rate of thermal transfer and the suction easily wicks it from the far side of the post; even though there is a film of solder between the wire and the post, it is thin enough to be able to unwind the wire with a good pair of needle noses.? As with most things it is a matter of technique but once you get the feel it goes well and easily. Hal |
Re: HP6268B repairability
Hi Alex,
I bought an HP6269B from USA shipped to Perth, Western Australia about 3 years ago. Unfortunately the box it was in was repacked by Pitney Bowes in their shipping program ostensibly to reduce packing size as, despite the weight, it came to me via Air and wasn't that expensive to ship but, the knobs damaged and its obviously been dropped from approx a metre or so, case bent too - the Pitney Bowes packing pathetic, the seller via ebay indicated he packed it well - from what Ive heard of re-packing for air, Im against it as Id have preferred to wait longer without so much case, knob and some meter damage :-/ So I'm in the market for knobs and the panel potentiometers behind them too as they don't turn as easily think the threads and/or mechanism damaged.during the fall. Haven't had the interest to power it up though it seemed ok inside, have so much on and had to move lab and house back then - though when my current busy period relaxes next 3 weeks or so definitely want to bring it back up to as factory as possible. Have the means to include an ESP8266 for wifi V/I monitoring in future... BTW Found a keysight service manual here, thanks for your links too :-) BTW: Just repaired an HP6813B which blew a bunch of MOSfets, replaced all 8 in the H-bridge with units that have 12 higher Amp capacity each and voila - works a treat and maintained the original 0.3% regulation. Some odd board repair as the multilayer board had the 500V DC "inside" the board completely vapourised - yet didnt punch through to either side of the PCB - yikes ! Pictures for reference, oh and upgraded the power stage to a DC fuse with extinguishing filler I expect nothing as dramatic in your HP6268B as same basis for my HP6269B, I think there's a market for augmented instrumentation and wifi monitoring for these old (mostly tough) beasts :-) Cheers Mike |
Re: Desoldering wire wrapped turrets in HP gear
Good Day,
it’s all about optimum heat transfer in my opinion.? The following has helped me with this in the past: *?Clean the turret terminal and wire with IPA and a stiff brush and some precision wipes *?Add?some good, sticky flux *?Use a clean?solder tip with the right size,?set to?proper temperature and some fresh solder? * Attach?a self-clamping tweezer to apply some gentle force to?the wire before starting with the desoldering process itself. If the conductor has an area with?some bare wire, attach it there to protect the?isolation. If not,?attach it to?a distant?point far away from the turret terminal.? *?Touch the base of the turret terminal with the soldering iron, i.e. at?the point where the?largest thermal mass is. * Some?PACE training material shows this (although for soldering, not desoldering) from 4:55 run time in this old training video:?? * Practice and improve?your technique on?some scrap boards before trying it on some valuable equipment. * And yes, you?better work quickly… Cheers, Magnus? |
Re: I bought a working HP3400A, however it doesn't.
Nice meter, I have one myself. The issue is most likely oxidized contacts on the range switch, good control cleaner should clean this up. The attenuator is just a simple resistor ladder so there's not a whole lot to go wrong. Once you get the range switch clean the meter shouldn't produce wild swings between ranges.

开云体育Greetings,If you don’t have the manual be sure to reach out to Artek Manuals (). They list the operating and service manual for SN1140A and below as well as SN 2225A and above. These are great, high quality, manuals available as downloads or CD’s. I have no financial interest in Artek Manuals, but I have purchased a number of CD manuals from them and have been pleased with every one. Good troubleshooting luck! Regards, Ken

I have a couple of the HP 62NN series. They are series regulated power supplies that are generally well-behaved. The only flaky behaviour I've encountered is when using them for charging batteries. There is no reverse current protection, such as you need when the power supply is turned off with the battery still connected. I learned this from Brooke Clarke (?) many years ago. In an attempt to get around this issue, if you use an external diode, you retain current regulation but lose Voltage regulation. To retain Voltage regulation and get reverse current protection, you need to open the box. So now, I don't leave a battery charging overnight in case there's a power outage. I have only one hard copy of the manual, but no soft copy. 73 de Brian, VK2GCE -----Original Message-----

I didn't work. (EBAY)? Upon testing I get large needle swings between range changes but it drops back to 0.
After a little more testing, I found the 1V ranges does work and is accurate. Is this a common problem that I can fix? So, it has 12 ranges, 11 are dead and one works. Are these easy to work on? I have pretty good troubleshooting and repair skills, what are the chances I could fix this? ????????????????????????? Thanks, Mikek |
Re: Desoldering wire wrapped turrets in HP gear
开云体育I'd be tempted to use a moderately sized iron and suck the solder off the terminal post.? Wire ends can be found a bit more easily and can possibly be unwound as needed.? If you're removing a part (not to be reattached), then I'd suggest the above, cut off the part wire a bit out from the post, and then either unwind cold or unwind with a bit of heat. Harvey
