Re: Free to good home, HP 5423A system + manuals and spares
I spoke to a friend about this; he'll be driving through your part of the country soon. He expressed a willingness to pick it up. I've forwarded this to him to see if he can arrange it. -Dave -- Dave

2nd call... so far a couple bites but no takers. It would be a shame to have to scrap and recycle this system.

Re: HP 141T Power Supply Help Needed
Bill, The big question is what resistance do you measure at the pins of the A2 board that have the white / Violet wires going to them with the wires removed. At this point you should read >1K Ohm at

Re: HP 141T Power Supply Help Needed
Bill, I don't have half the knowledge some of the guys in this thread do on circuit analysis.? But have you done a visual inspection of the entire board yet?? Have you removed it from the unit to

Re: Keysight customer support policy
As long as we're on this topic, what are some battery brands that peeps here would swear by? I used to stick to Duracells, but you're confirming what I've also seen - a ton load of leakages. I'm tired

Re: HP 141T Power Supply Help Needed
At about 1.30am, the fan slid out enough to access the mosfet pins. A little tweaking and in next power up I see way more sane voltages on the transistors. 23.5v is gone. 1.5v to the driver base etc.

I spent a little time in a prep school with the people who became these destroyers.? What makes you think their parents were any different?? Where do you think they learned their "morals?"

Re: Keysight customer support policy
I have had bad results as far as leakage with Duracells, but Ray O Vac has been far worse. Once they are 2 or 3 years old, there is a serious risk of them leaking in the package. Mallory Duracells

Re: Keysight customer support policy
Same here; Duracells are "remove on sight" around here. I swore by them all my life, until they started destroying things. But that's ok, because...."it's just business". No. It's greedy scumbag

Re: Keysight customer support policy
Everything you say is true. I worked at Mallory back when Duracell was their brand name for cells (Mallory also made other components like pots).? I worked in R&D on lithium sulfur dioxide primary

Re: Keysight customer support policy
Look at Duracell. Another suit problem. Prior to being bought by Proctor and Gamble, they had a very good product with a good reputation. Now the batteries leak in the packaging prior to installation

Re:? - Absolutely no proof but it is a simple theory for what I see happening to other people. Pretty crass IMO, as even with the old DOS based database (Informix SmartWare!) we used at the ex works

Re: HP 141T Power Supply Help Needed
One thought... Do you have a reliable bench PSU? If so, you could temporally use it for the -12.6V rail, and see if the rest of the instrument power's up, with the internal regulator disabled and

Re: 8566B attenuator removal
If the attenuator does turn out to be faulty and beyond repair and I can't find a replacement unit off Ebay or whatever, I could always just bypass the faulty attenuator internally, replace the top

Intriguing, you may be onto something Chuck. I did find the pass trans socket is missing 1 side of the clip and making almost no contact. I squeezed the one remaining contact a little and i think made
