Mine came from eBay about three years ago (for a couple of hundred dollars as I remember). Before that, I used 0.141" hard line "U"s with SMA connectors and SMA (F) to N (M) adapters. I can't say there was any noticable difference when the authentic cables were installed, but my system has the storage normalizer. -John |

Here`s the info, guys. I have both the op-amp, and photochopper version
manuals, so if you want more info, it`s there. My 410C uses the photochopper, but it works well, so I haven`t modified that part of it. I put a 3 terminal regulator for the 6.0/6.3 Volt EA53 heater. Keep in mind that you will probably also need to invest in the
correct crimping tools, since the contacts for the mixed-type D-subs are considered mil-spec. Such tooling, though a bit pricey if bought new (probably around $300), has the advantage that it can be used on a variety of contacts, and the tools themselves are built very well indeed. I tried Rohde & Schwarz for schematics for this VHF/UHF test receiver, but they replied that they "stopped the repair of this equipment 10 years ago", and that "repair for the ESU 2 is no longer possible".
Can anybody suggest where I might be able to find schematics? I have the interconnection schematics for the modules, but no schematics of the modules themselves. Any help here would REALLY be appreciated, because repairing this beastie without service data is much more difficult than with...........................................Don C. |

I am not familiar with the exact part in question, but very often, spectrum analyzer mixers are of the double balanced diode type (DBM). When working correctly, a DBM provides at least 20dB of isolation between the LO, RF, and IF ports. So, when you move the LO towards the low end of the band, like you are doing at 10MHz, the LO, and IF are approaching each other in frequency, until you hit zero (DC) Hz, where they are exactly the same frequency. If the DBM is working correctly, it will provide you with more than a 20DB isolation between the IF, and LO ports, which will reduce the amount of LO that goes right into the IF port by at least 20dB. However, if the DBM has a burned out diode, it will no longer give you much, if any, isolation between the IF and LO ports, and you will see a drastically larger amount of LO signal being stuffed into the IF port. This cannot help but wreck the amplitude flatness at the low end of the band. spectrum analyzer 1st mixer

While the spectrumanalyzer pro-and contra's are actual on this group, may be someone can help with this: My 70904A RF module (HP70100 analyzer) works perfectly from 10 MHz to 2.9 GHz , however below 10 MHz amplitude flatness goes down rapidly , -20 dB at 1 MHz . Manual says problem with 1st mixer ?? I have difficulty to understand that the mixer can be shot and at the same time performing above 10 MHz without problem ? Basic layout of the first stages are : 0-70 dB attenuator , switchable AC -DC , then limiter 10 mW dc-3GHz , then 1st mixer ... I would guess a series resistor burned out , becoming a nice series capacitor that way ?? Any suggestions for repair ? Thanks Erik Belgium PS . Funny enough my 410C is the later Dual-FET / OpAmp version ... After messing around with resistors for the filament, I changed the 6.2V Zener for a 5.1V on the supply board: Zero is nearly stable now and the AC tracks almost linear ... but still not 100% Btw: Can somebody be so kind and forward me the Balance/Gain calibration procedure for the FET/OpAmp 410c ? im looking for a replacement
translator module for an hp 86220a plug in as used with an 8620 a or c sweeper or possibly a junk plugin thsat might have a good module the module is a rectangular metal box attached to the bottom of the plug in part # 5086-7003 "frequency translator" their is a very similar module next to it that contains the output amplifier. the yig and cavity oscillator are ok "both measure over +10 db out the amp was checked with a -30 signal from my 8640b and it easily produced +10 out i have the manual and its acting like the pin diode modulator is shot "part of the mixer module" |

hp 8175 fried resistor and missing cable
Just received from Ebay a 8170a as is that is missing a cable between
Video board and output board. I found a ribbon cable with plugs that fit however need help with verifying correct pin out between boards. Also power supply board has a 2 watt resister fried located next to the smaller of two bridge rectifier near center of power supply board.
