And yet you keep coming back to Microsoft! Amazing! Go check out
Mozilla's Firefox, or Seamonkey. Either will run rings around IE.

For the odd few sites that refuse to work with non IE browsers, you
can install a plugin that makes your browser identify itself as being

Re: LOGSA AND IE-7 ???

Stay away from IE7, IMHO. It's a piece of junk. It won't even open a
0-byte .htm file on your local drive without forcing you to click through a
scripting-security warning.

IE6 is fine, and so is the current (2.0.0.1) release of Firefox although I
haven't tried to access LOGSA with it. It looks like the security strategy
in IE7 and Vista will be to condition users to click "Yes" throughout an
endless series of permission prompts. Microsoft calls it a "sandbox," but a
psychologist named B.F. Skinner had a different name for it...

I downloaded IE7 a few days ago, and LOGSA works fine. Maybe it was a
problem with the beta release?

Seeking BTDT for 3314A repair

Dave

Right at the wrong time! I'm in the midst of a development project
and my 3314A went south.

The cause may be quite evident. We had a four day power outage,
during which time, the workshop outbuilding dropped to 28 degrees F.
The building goes un-powered at night, so the 3314A did not suffer any
sort of line transients.

Now, back at the bench, working on the projects...the 3314 isn't working.

Symptom: Push ON....first time, scattered random flickering on the
various front LEDs, then all went dark. Simultaneously a
high-amplitude square wave is generated out the OUT jack, starting at
a few hundred kHz and sweeping downward to sub-1Hz. Second time, no
front panel indications at all, but output behavior is the same. All
subsequent power-ups have yielded the same results.

I'm starting with the assumption that the power supply took a hit
somehow, but do these symptoms lead anybody to say "Hey! I had one do
exactly that and it's C56 on the Power Supply board!".

Hey, I can hope, right?

TIA,

It would be nice if Mike Kawasaki could organize for this supplement
which contains all the board level schematics to be uploaded on the
Agilent site. This will really help to keep these fine instruments
going.

Thanks, Dean
The full service manual with supplement is available from 'artekmedia' (David is a member of this group) on eBay. I have a copy, yes, it is well worth it.

Re: [TekScopes] BAMA scaling back

Hi Tomas,

I have a Nak 700 Mk II. I cannot get signals into or out of it. I have a
copy of the relevant manual, but would appreciate some tips about
where to start looking. I started by checking the power supply - as far
as I can tell, that seems to be OK.

Cheers,

The main difference is that if you ever want to use an 86290 plugin (a
*very* common and useful one, covering 2-18 GHz) you are supposed to have an
8620C. Apparently the power supply on the 8620A was not capable of driving
the 86290, and HP warns strongly against trying to use an 86290A/B/C in an
8620A.

The mainframes are so cheap that it does not make much sense to buy an
8620A.

In general, yes. I think the main difference was the (optional) remote
interface. The A was parallel BCD, the C is GPIB. There might have been
marker differences also. There was also a B version, BTW.
