Re: 8594E CAL: SPAN SENS FAIL

Ozan,
Thank you for the tips.? My observations:
1. I was able to verify +15VF, +5A and +10UF voltages directly on A7.? I need to get an extender to really dig into it :-(
2. In the system diagnostics, +10V Reference (presumably +10UF?) is quite unstable
3. In verifying +10UF, I measured at one end of R105, which connects +10UF to V(REF)+ of the DAC in the third converter ref_cal circuit.? Not knowing which end was which, it was easy enough to find the +10UF (and checking with an o-scope it's quite stable, unlike the system diagnostic), but as it happens the other side of R105 has a very small voltage on it (less than 100 mV).? This doesn't seem right to me.??
As I await my extender, any further insights would be appreciated!

Re: HP 3852a extended memory modules info

If the connector is still available, it would not be difficult to make a 1MB or 8MB static RAM board.
I did one not too long ago for the Data I/O UNISITE that also uses the MC68000.
The original UNISITE board was DRAM with up to eight 9 bit modules.
With the static RAM, the parity was disabled.

Am I too stupid to find it or hasn't it been verified yet?
I'm excited to see the CLIPs.

Re: HP 130A restoration

Sorry a correction, by disconnecting the J9P interpanel connector I have disconnected the V33 heater so I could not have had the right voltage out anyway from the -150 supply, regardless I was getting around -165 on C140B. The dV across V34, 80+V, is about right.
Riconnecting J9P only and not J10P the 88V supply should not have worked regularly also since there the 300 V supply contribution is missing? , I am getting 31V instead of 88. Around 200V on the V28 and V29 plates. I tried to regulate the 150V supply and I could do this verya ccurately.

The EMC version of the E440xB has monochrome as standard, with an option for color

?

The "normal" versions has color as standard

The colors are gone due to defective backlight?

Replace it with two LED strips and a driver, then the colors will be back?(have repaired a few now)

?

Between the backlight and the screen, there is a color filter, which also turns "yellow orange"

If you remove it with new LED strips, the screen will be a blue tone

Filters are available on e b a y - needs to be cut to size

I haven't looked up the pinout because I really need to get to sleep, but from the photo this board looks *exactly* like a DIO bus RAM board for an HP-9000 series 300 computer.

Re: HP 130A restoration

Very interesting i didn't realize some heaters are run in series. I checked the cold resistance of the 88V heaters and is 126 ohm which divided by 14 heaters makes 9 ohm, about right for a single 6.3 V cold heater.
Factory I don't understand the bulb idea completely. Presently the scope absorbs slightly less than 100W, and the fuses would allow for roughly 200W, it's a 2A fuse. If I put a 100W bulb in series the heaters will not heat up enough but with a 200W bulb a short would blow up the fuse. Should I put a 300 W bulb in series and a larger fuse, like 2 or 4 A?
The reason I am hesitant is that my variac is 110V, following a 220 to 110 transformer and at the moment the power cord current runaway, with all the tubes in, is slow enough that I can turn the variac off before blowing the fuse. Most of the time.
Finding an array of large 110V bulbs in Italy now is out of the question.
Anyway I am making progress, unplugged the N 9 & 10 connectors from the 88 V PS board and got around -160 V, not quite -150 but with no load. Is it already time to trim this supply to its correct voltage?
Tomorrow I'll check the 88 V supply.

Hi John

You are absolutely right!

I am also ?no longer sure what we are talking about…The X series start with CXA and so far stop at UXA.They all ?have a lot in common-especially software platform(Apps) Signal Path.

The machine-N9020A-..belongs to the MXA family,-most ?sold from mobile facilities in China are the 3.6 Ghz version. They upgraded.

The standard N9020A came with a digital IF 14 bit ?BW of 10Mhz-(just like E4406A) the ones sold from china are all with 25 Mhz BW.

They all come with Agilent vsa 89600 ver.12.02 and ver. 14 preinstalled—but with no license, just trial!!—and many are loaded with licensed options as Phase noise-Noise figure -analog demod-EDP enhanced display package, with full sweep spectrogram-Extended Noise floor… just to mention a few.

So all in all it’s a great machine with nice specs—low price…its just like when we got the E4406A!!I know you remember.

Best Wishes

Hardy

Are we talking about the EXA version, the cheapest model of the series? Not EXT?
Until someone has real time S/A via FFT option in these, they don't jump out at me. I have a Rigol now at home that goes to 3 GHz and has 40 MHz RT bandwidth that works great. Troubleshooting spread spectrum 915 MHz unlicensed mesh network nodes and also setting up WIFI/Cellular antennas is so much easier. Sinful, I know, to use that name around the HP group. Speaking of which, at work i received a R&S FSW8 in good condition, Win 10, from Valuetronics this week. It is an awesome box, with 160 MHz RT BW. I think it goes circles around the older N9020A's and B's that didn't have low phase noise options.

Have a look at the following thread on eevblog's forum:

The guy to contact is: "PA0PBZ". It seems to be a key generated from the serial number.

Also, "fenugrec" (or any other people), do you have a spare tracking generator for sale? I need a 3GHz one for my E4402B.

Re: HP 130A restoration

If that heater string is open, the +80 and -150 volt supplies should run wide open, because the control tubes would be nonconducting.

Correct. The EXT is nothing like an MXA, except for the processor board being similar construction but not firmware compatible.

?

During the transitions form HP to Agilent and Agilent to Keysight, there were short periods of time where the front panels and other places in many instruments had the new name but the software had not yet been updated with the new name in every bit of code.

Hi Hardy. The EXT is a very similar instrument, possibly cheaper? I contacted Keysight with my serial number and it came back as an EXT so seems it has been upgraded (CPU & O.S?) to MXA. Ok some may be genuine MXAs, mine clearly is not. I don't think it matters and as mentioned I do not want to put buyers from purchasing.
