Hi

You are correct-this analyzer must have hardware option 119(noise fgure) for use with ?85719A.Its not difficult to transfer this program via gpib.

Regarding the expensive ram cards used for this analyzer series¡­just use the cards made for HP 48 calculators,much cheaper.

I'm pretty certain the analyser will use the Y factor method (not the gain method) so an external noise source (HP 346B?) and an external preamp is needed (HP 87405A would be good here as it can be powered from the front panel of the analyser).

Hopefully, the analyser has the 28V drive port at the rear and this is probably the internal hardware that is required for this option. If so it might be possible to clone an existing SW card and plug it in and it would all work. I'm not sure if it can be loaded via GPIB.

After having a bit of a search online etc, I have found that Keysight list the 1820-2149 as being replaced by 5088-7082 (both are obsolete), so that opens up the search parameters a bit maybe.

I recently acquired a Govt. Surplus (Air Force) HP 427A, SN/ 947-A19375. ?I was going to adjust the DC offset according to section 5-30 of the manual but the A2 board doesn't have the A2R7 pot for this. ?It also doesn't have the A2R17 pot depicted on the schematic as well. ?The latest manual version I have found online is 00427-90008 and it reflects the presence of both of those pots. ?Can anyone advise me on the DC offset procedure for this unit or perhaps direct me to the most recent manual? ?Thank you,

85719A Noise Figure Measurements Personality for HP8595A

 

I have the option hardware in my HP8595A for noise figure measurements but not the HP 85719A Noise Figure Measurements Personality card.
Presumably this is just software. Does anyone have this (downloaded from the card)? Can this be loaded to the analyzer via GPIB or must I have an actual HP / Epson memory card?

Looking for replacement ECL logic chips etc, for HP 8160A Pulse generator.

 

I've just dragged out my 8160A pulse generator to finally get it working, and I am in need of a few ECL logic chips and a custom HP chip too.

The troubleshooting I've done so far has me down to 3 possible faulty parts on the 'grey' card in position A228. I have designed some riser cards which will be delivered in a week or two to let me access the card and probe it whilst powered up to narrow down the fault further.

These parts are the most likely culprits so far:
U3 - 1820-2149 - HP Custom chip - Dual Gate
U6 - 1820-0802 (MC10102P) - ECL Quad 2-Input NOR Gate
U7 - 1820-1482 (MC10211P) - ECL Dual 3-Input/3-Output NOR Gate

I see a service note (# 8160A--15) exists to replace the 1820-2149 chip, so there's a likely candidate... (Does anyone have any copies of service notes for the 8160A they can upload?)


Does anyone have any of these chips in their stash that they can post to Japan for a reasonable cost?

Re: How to Test an NE75 Neon Lamp

 

After reassembling the [now clean] time-base, DS101 is still not illuminated.? I've checked the +100V rail and that checks at 99.x volts (don't remember the exact fractional part).

I had not previously removed the top cover to observe the time-base.? With the cover removed, pressing the RESET switch causes a neon lamp (V105?) towards the back, right side of the main circuit board to illuminate so at least part of that circuitry is working.

I'm guessing the problem has something to do with Q109.? The -100V rail appears to be a crucial part of that circuit too.? I didn't check that rail but intend to do so tomorrow.

From what I can tell, there's about 50V across that but not sure if that's when the lamp is supposed to be on or off so I'm not sure if that's enough to turn the lamp on.? I'm not finding much in the way of specs for an NE75 either.

Anyone know how I can test it?

Happy to see that I am not alone on the 8165A. So I will have at least one reader!

Now I am fighting against an 8160A which I purchased for few euros as not working. Channel A is now happily running, and I am going to try to fix the channel B (Option 020).

It¡¯s a wonderful instrument, definitely love! I can understand it costed 67,000 dollars, referred to today...
