From what I have heard (so cant confirm) is that when the progs are copied from the orig disks there is a bit set on the orig and the copy of the program that allows only one copy. If the orig disks are copied with a program (on a PC) that will make a "image" of the disks you should be okay. Regards Steve Hi All
I have obtained some software for the 4952A protocol Analyser. These have been copied using the LIFUTIL utility. However wheras the data
files work fine the applications (things like a VT100 emulator) give an error "Application Denied". I suspect and have read somthing about this being some HP copy protection.
Can anyone help or make any suggestions?

Lloyd I'll gladly contribute some dead A/D boards to the reverse engineering cause. This board is probably the single largest failure card in the 54111D family. People will buy up 54111D carcasses just to rob the A/D boards. On occasion I have seen working A/D boards sold (off Ebay) for as much as $1500 each, when you can find them at all. I own of the beasts, one working, one about to be working, and one parts carcass (which I robbed the A/D boards out off 8^) If the schematics and board overlays still exist somewhere inside the organizational train wreck that has swept through HP over the last few years then the only way they will ever see the light of day is through a clandestine smuggling job from the inside. Agilent/HP wont even release the copyrights to the manuals for equipment that has been obsolete for 40 years let alone the schematics for a 10 year old piece of gear I wish you luck with your dream. I am interested in manufacturing replacement A/D boards for the HP
54111D. I saw comments on the unavailability of schematics. Does
anyone have further info on contacting Agilent or reverse engineering
these boards (54111-66501)?

described in the PDF file above. Probes leads are passive. You just need suitable 0.154" conector block, wire and then connection to grabber. You might try contacting vendors that rent or sell used
equipment. These units are old enough that they may have a set
laying around which they are willing to sell for cheap.

You might try an MTA-156 IDC receptacle used for wire-to-board interconnection.? They are available for about $1.00 each.? The 12 position unit (you must trim off the extra "hole" with a Dremmel tool) is available from Newark Electronics as 15F1426.

about interconnect solutions or grabber solutions for HP/Agilent
logic analyzers. Sorry, I forget the exact name, but it's a manual
that explains all the different pod sets and grabbers that HP sells. The manual is continually updated for the current equipment, but most of it is still applicable to the older logic analyzers. It shows the pinout and electrical characteristics of the cable ends (without
pods) as well as the electrical characteristics for the pods. If you get desperate, let me know and I can probably dig up the manual for
you.

Every now and then, someone puts up a set of grabbers (just grabbers without the pods) and they tend to go for about $20 per set of 20 grabbers. Of (just in case I misunderstand), if you need the pods as well, they also come up on ebay a lot (more often than just the grabbers). My definition of pods is the part that attaches to the end of the long ribbon cable, and has the loose wires coming out the end (GND, clock, and 16 data leads). The grabbers would then attach to the loose wires. Complete pod sets (pods, grabbers, ground leads, etc.) seem to go for about $30-$40 per pod, or $120-$160 a set of 4, on ebay. I just picked up a brand new set of 4, never opened for the low end of that price. You can also buy grabbers from any of a number of different places that sell wires and things (like banana plugs, lab interconnect wire, meter and scope test leads, etc.). They won't be exactly the same as the original HP grabbers, but they may be acceptable for your needs, or you might even find better grabbers (though, probably for a much higher price). Anyway you look at it, though, grabbers are expensive. I just finished buying pods and grabbers for my logic analyzer. I had to buy 12 pod sets. Ugh! affordable kits has been impossible...
Is it possible to make grabbers myself? I thought the Pods have MTA
156 connectors.. And maybe I can make them..

schematics for HP54721 4G amplifier scope plug-in?
Greetings -
After searching the excellent lists from tbfowler,
came up dry. Looking for service lit/schematics (have
the operating manual) for this HP54720D scope 4G amp plug-in
designated HP54721. The cal output on the plug-in is not
working, i can visually trace but, much better to have
schematics, board is multi-layer and I don't have
extenders.
