I have this very instrument. The 70900A should show up in row 0 column 18, and if the HPIB functionality is enabled for this module it will also show up on HPIB address 18. The RF section should show up in row 6 column 18, (70904A in my instrument) the IF section (70902A) should be in row 1 column 18, the display should be in row 0 column 4. If there are no power supply issues (because I notice the "volt/temp" LED is not illuminated) I would also recommend pulling all the modules out and setting them to their default positions and making sure you have all the necessary SMB and semi-rigid cables routed correctly. Even with dead batteries the unit will still function, but will complain about the confidence test and the 70900A will not keep calibration coefficients after a power cycle.??

Thanks Vladan, ? That¡¯s a good postulate because I had to replace one of the fuses on the PS board to get this far in trouble shooting. BTW those fuses are rare and damned expensive. They are from the early NASA days and listed as very fast acting fuses. Got a few on order but not wanting p-off $10 dollar fuses in trouble shooting I improvised by breaking open standard fast 2A fuses reclaiming the fuse wire. I pinned the wire in the 2 pins of the socket using the blown fuse. I extended the wire free of the socket by 3mm to free it from any thermal sink. ?If I was going to blow fuses they would be cheap fuses. Before refusing I could not get all the keys on the 702005A to respond, i.e. row column selection on A-Map. Also none of the front status LEDs on the L.O. were illuminated. Best guess was with that fuse out, inboard fuse, some mutual bus was being inhibited. Refusing cleared 70205A functionality and LEDs were lit, albeit maybe dimmer than the RF section. Of note, now the IF LEDs were out where prior to fuse replacement at least one, I think both, were lit. ? I think next step is to pull the PS board and¡ - Visual on full board top and bottom
- Run C and ESR readings on the electrolytics
- Verify what the bad fuse fused then verify all actives in that path
? I still don¡¯t know if the 70905A/L.O. should be seen in the Address Map ? ? ?

TNX Paul, ? Agreed. Have been doing the reading and now that I¡¯ve got a text searchable Volume 1 Service manual connecting the dots should be more productive. Its such a beautiful piece of hardware that I really want to make it live again, within reasonable expenditures. ? Do you know if the 70900A HPIB memory assignment should appear under the Address Map key display? Mine doesn¡¯t. If it should, then that¡¯s the first clue all is not right in my L.O.. ?

Should've clarified? that fans are running and verified all cables are in proper place. Have replaced battery in 70900A so up to speed on these issues...
Other than the front panel LEDs on the? 70900A there is no indication that the L.O. is in the game, or so it seems.?Should it show up in the Address? Map?... if yes then it's MIA.

I have a couple of HP 19" racks that are mounted on a platform that in turn has castors.? The key thing is that the platform sticks out in front of the racks.? That way if slides are used to pull something forward the whole rack does not tip over.

It is almost impossible to adjust the 5 MHz crystal frequency unless the device is locked and you are watching the control voltage. I had the same problem with an HP Cesium standard.
I would suggest you start with GPS based standard and an oscilloscope to get the 5 MHz close enough to lock.
As pointed out before, be sure the RF drive frequency and power to the cell are correct.
You might also ask the guys from "Time Nuts" group for help.

Matt; for your in-out application, avoid SWIVEL casters as they will require a lot of horizontal force to get them to reverse direction, and when they finally swivel the unit could get tippy.
Also look at using? "Appliance Casters" or maybe adapting machine-tool mobile bases:??
I'm using these low profile appliance casters under several adjacent 19" racks pushed up against a wall:??
They work great on hard floors, and nylon wheels can easily 'skid' sideways to align direction of travel.

I have three on my computer desk. Two mounted underneath, and one standing on end. I'm planning to build a 12V UPS, with multiple outputs to replace almost a dozen wall warts. I may include some 9 volt outputs, and USB power ports. as well.
I have 3 attached to the back of my bench.? No issues in the ~3 years I've had them.? BTW, I put masking tape labels on the plug ends of the power cords so I know what plug goes to what instrument.? ?HTH.? ? ? ? ?Jim Ford?

Have you seen these four foot, 12 outlet strips for $20? I have about a half dozen.? A couple failed when I lost the netral on my electric service, and the line voltage went up past 160 VAC on a 120VAC line. It fried the MOVs, and tripped a circuit breaker, which is how it was supposed to work. The other side of the line dropped to 60 VAC but my old Dell Optiplex 780 and Insignia video monitor kept working.
After I sent that message I found these Tripp Lite rails

Keep in mind that the module has 16-bit data bus and you must mix U1 with U3 and U2 with U4 if you want to search something inside.
