Hi best suggestion is to see how close you live to another 70 K and then you could check out the 70900

?

By the way Do NOT open the IF unless it is faulty? as you will upset the filters

?

Suggest you spend a few hours reading the 70900A manuals

?

Thanks Paul for the input,

?

Unfortunately the 70900a doesn't appear under the Address Map and no instruments are realized when SELECT INSTR is initiated; just counts up to 30 and reports NO instrument found...

Hi? Gene

?

Welcome to the 70 K equipment ??at $100 you are not going to lose any money

Ok you have all the parts to make it work? your first job is to find out if the 70900 is working? as this is the Hart of the system

I do not have one of your displays? but with just the display and the 70900 you should be able to interrogate the 70900 for its software date

You also need the record any errors ?then you can start sorting things out?

?

One warning? the rack has 2 fans in the base? best suggestion is to remove all units? and make Shure both are working as excessive heat can kill the 70900

?

There are about 150 documents on the 70000 site ?the one that is not there and you might find helpful is the sylph paced tutorial this can be got from Artek at $10

?

You will also have to check out all the cables on the rear and be careful hear

?

?

I'm new to the HP 70K system and just started on the learning process to decide whether to salvage parts or restore what I believe is? a true piece of great American engineering and implementation. When I first saw this up for bid on a government bid site it was listed as a spectrum analyzer. That got my interest and less than $100 later I hauled it home and applied liniment to some sore muscles. The modules in this build are...

After pulling the modules and giving a quick look and smell test, I found nothing that cautioned against applying power. Wow, it fired up, well kind of. On cold start I got this start screen...

Reading further in groups, I replaced the 2 lithium? batteries using these leaded ones. Cutting leads where needed makes more sense than soldering.

Restarted and got the notice 6003? that occurs with new battery installs...tried the "press DSP then? SELECT INSTR" and got this...

"No module present" is displayed after a scan with "Column" advancing through to 30...hmmm?

When I look at the address map I do not see the 70900a L.O. module listed...the IF, RF sections and 70205A shown,
That's where am at and rather then go forward blindly anew, I thought asking questions to the more knowledgeable would make big time sense. I have/am using manual Part Number 70900-90116 that I just converted to text searchable and have just started diving in.?

1. Should the 70900A show in the A-Map or is some initialization/assignments in order for the 70900A to be recognized?
2. I don't intend on attaching a PC to this frame, is it reasonable to expect any use in this configuration? if not, see next question
3. I stash and harvest parts for my own design work. Does this make more sense without aux PC?

BTW I have a fairly large stash of NOS Tek/HP parts that I'm willing to help others with

Pre-Thanks for any help
