Re: IFR

Pauls suggestion is a good one, although remember that IFR acquired Marconi Instruments so there is unlikely to be much on their kit in any archive they have.

?

Also IFR being American based may have their own archive although I’ve never heard anything about it.

Marconi stuff would be all in the UK.

I know that this .io group deals with HP equipment.? BUT...? can anybody suggest a group that will discuss equipment made by IFR?? Specifically, I have an IFR 1100S where the "frequency error meter" does not appear to work correctly.? It will zero out when the power to the unit is OFF.? When the unit is turned on, the meter always reads about +4Khz, no matter how far off the input frequency is with relation to the position of the thumbwheel frequency selectors. Although there is an op-amp that is the "meter driver," there does not appear to be a way to zero out the meter or to change its gain.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Jeff

The IFR group is called aeroflex7264. which is not very active

Or try the Marconi_Test_Instruments ?group which is more active. ?

At one time IFR owned Marconi in the UK.

HP16533A - Attenuator repair (Why I'm always unlucky?)

Greetings everyone

Well, got a new logic analyser. And with it, new boards. Sold my old 16500C and got a 16702A (and already got a 16702B, just waiting for it to arrive)

The new scope board was bought months ago. But, since I live in Brazil, took some time to the board to arrive. Made a pair of 30cm cables today, tried to calibrate the scope and...Lots of "fail" messages.

Connected a direct cable from calibrator output to chan1 input and the signal varies intensity in time. Looks like an attenuator problem. If I try to autoscale, it goes haywire, with a dc offsett of 170 volts (!) or some. The square wave varies amplitude and looks like an attenuator problem.

I still have the 16532 board used in the 16500C. May I use its attenuators? Is there a guide to opening and cleaning the attenuators of the 16533 board?

I cannot afford another board, unfortunately. Looks like all problems that I didn't had with the 16500 are concentrated in this 16702. Most boards I got were broken, the only perfect board (AFAIK) is the 16715 (or something) LA input board :\

Thanks
Alexandre

Linux has PCMCIA Utils, which will allow you to do
just about anything with any PCMCIA card.

Eiger Linear PCMCIA MEMORY Flash PC Card
Hi,
There used to be a demo 30 day verson of MCE. looks like it is still available

but I've not tried this site. Use precautions, virus scan etc. There are other sites offering downloads.
MCE does not need an ELAN interface. An old laptop with PCMCIA built in and running Win XP is your best bet. The Ebay USB reader probably only works in ATA mode i.e. is basicall a USB to PATA adaptor with a PCMCIA socket and thus won't recognise your Linear Flash. The card you have is suitable for back-up but as I said before the 89xB series do not support writing to FLASH or other kinds of PROM, they can only write to NV-RAM cards. They can read RAM, NV-RAM, ROM, PROM and LINEAR FLASH.
Don't pay Syncrotech for MCE there is no indication they have the right to sell it and they offer no support.

Re: Make backup PCMCIA card for E8285A?

Thanks so much to all for the replies!

I have the original HP card “Agilent 11807A *100/Rev.B.02.01” which works in the E8285A, and I separately
have the RF Tools files (both from Rick @ Amtronix — thanks!!).

I need a backup CARD because so much depends on it, and I can’t risk enabling writing on my HP store configs, etc.

On the E8285A, it is unfortunately very easy to erase the internal copies of the programs - requiring a reload from the card.
That’s why I want to have a backup.

I bought a “?2MB Eiger Linear PCMCIA MEMORY Flash PC Card PN# EPM-2000F”?with write protect switch,?
which the E8285A sees but says is unformatted. ?then won’t format when I try. ?It says it’s?“Write protected"??
when it is switched to?“Write enabled’. ?The E8285A manual says it will format only the first 1 MB of a card over 1 MB.

Wikipedia says there is aThe?card information structure?(CIS) is information stored on a PC card?
and?“When a card is unrecognized it is frequently because the CIS information is either lost or damaged."
?(??).?
Perhaps this could be corrected by reading the original image in Linux dd, and?writing to another card??

Questions, if anyone’s still with me <grin>:

1) Has anyone tried using Linux dd to duplicate the original card? ?If so, are special drivers or hardware needed?
Perhaps antique PC with PC Card Type 1 hardware??

2) Does anyone know of cards for sale which can be formatted in the E8285A?

3) On Win7 and HP200lx, I can’t read either card with an eBay USB 2.0 PC Card Reader which says it supports?
? “PCMCIA, PC CARD ATA, ATA Flash storage” even after trying multiple driver versions.

4) I can’t see a way to try the ELAN?Memory Card Explorer (MCE) software?without paying hundreds of dollars?
for a license and which ?probably? would also need their adapter?

Again, many thanks for all the help so far! ?Great Group!!

Re: Clarification : Brass gears for the 8640B

Dave,
Why would I speak of misinformation if it wasn't? I'm really intrigued by the assumptions people are making in this thread. I have no motivation to "prove" what my gears are made of, whether they are "as good as gears made from blanks made/bought/machined in country X" or whether I have not copied someone else's design. What I do NOT do as a self-respecting professional is to make allegations or spread misinformation.
There will be no more replies from me in this thread. I do not want to expend my energy or others' from their real work. To the dozens of you on this very forum who have ordered and re-ordered my gears and given me excellent feedback, thank you once again! Doubters are free to believe what they wish to.
Best - Ram

Not knowing the circuit if the two diodes are in parallel that might make sense. ?On the other hand .9V seems high for a silicon diode let alone a schottky, I thought those went more toward the .3 to .4 level
