Re: On buying gear. A happy story.
I can add another: I had watched for an "affordable" HP 8601 sweep generator on eBay for a long time when one finally showed up at a very modest buy-it-now price, described as "Doesn't Power Up". I

I have used AliExpress for years without a? big problem.? The only trouble was with some transistors; I ended up with counterfeit but by the time I discovered it, the warranty had expired.? The

Re: Experience with AliExpress for connectors
I think all such sellers need some due diligence. Start a conversation with them on alibaba/aliexpress messaging, and if they are answering helpfully switch to email, research their independent site,

Just suggesting you verify your signal generator before you have an unrecoverable oops. The front panel input goes into A12 Microwave Assembly, you do not want to smoke that, U1 Sampler is one part I

Experience with AliExpress for connectors
I want to buy two Lemo connectors FGJ.2B.306.CLLD72Z Problem is that Lemo want GBP19.24 each plus tax at 20% and have an MOV of GBP100 plus tax (or a surcharge of GBP25 plus tax) with shipping on top.

Re: 141T reference replacement..a cure??
I found a power strip with a flickering indicator. When I shone a LED flashlight on it, it went steady. I don't have a photometer, so it's all "by guess by golly", but I think that phosphor-type white

HP 5347A frequency counter input level question
I have just acquired an HP 5347A frequency counter. A quick run-through appears to show that the instrument is working and displays frequencies correctly on both input 1 and input 2. Input 1 (the

Re: On buying gear. A happy story.
I bought, for a token bid, a Gigatronics power meter on ebay from a test equipment vendor. It was listed as will not power up. Received it in good condition and placed it on the bench. Plugged it in

On buying gear. A happy story.
I see so many folks post sad stories here or other places about buying something or other off of ebay, at a flea market, or wherever that didn't turn out well. So, I thought I would relate at least

Thanks very much, John - the link took me to a scan of the manual (and a repository of manuals) I was unaware existed. The block diagrams, although rendered as four letter size pages, are of very good

Re: H'P606A, 606B Question
Hi. The only issue I've had in 20 years, is that one band position was binding. Looking inside, one of the ferrite cores had backed out and was rubbing the casting. Easy fix. I have never understood

Re: H'P606A, 606B Question
Have you tried a bit of contact cleaner/lubrication on the switches? I'd think something like a tiny drop of DeoxIT on them would fix that sort of thing. Regards, Barry - N4BUQ

H'P606A, 606B Question
I have one each of these fine instruments. Occasionally the output falls to zero for no apparent reason. This can be put right by reseating the contacts on the rotary turrets. What is going on here? -

Re: mini SMB connector type?
Never even heard of SMZ connectors. I see they are 75 ohm, perhaps that's why. The connector I need is half the diameter, 0.100" ! Pretty sure it's SSMB.

Re: mini SMB connector type?
From measurements and examinations of photos I'm 99% sure it's a SSMB. Never ran into those before! I have one on order then will know 100%. Peter
