Darnit - was about to say what a great idea and then - darnit, yes
perhaps that would introduce a particulate metal issue... I was thinking
a dremel to 'cut' open the epoxied seam perhaps?

Re: Step attenuator repair stuff uploaded in files section

I just tried to find that file also, but it doesn't seem to be there.
Lothar, is there any chance to re-post it?
This would be useful, and I must admit that I had missed the original post.
I notice that the file space for the list is pretty much full, and probably
needs to be weeded out. Might try uploading to another site, like Didier's.

I am not able to find the step attenuator repair document. Did it get
pulled?

Thanks

Foot Assy for (Re: 7562A Log Voltmeter/Converter)

ArtekMedia

These had a "front bail/foot" type front #1490-0032 and the rear foot was #5060-0728 built in the late 60's and early 70's ...probably common to other gear of that era

Each instrument originally had two feet (one at the front, one at the back).
The feet are a plastic bar about 7" long and 3/4" wide with detents at the
ends for a bail bar, and a push button in the middle with instructions
"Press then slide foot".
Does anyone by any chance have such they are prepared to part with?
I fear I don't know the part number, and a search on eBay didn't turn up any
HP feet that remotely matched.
Thanks

The 7562A has a crest factor of 5:1, which is between the 10:1 you can get
with a thermal converter and the 3:1 you could get with the early analog
multipliers. I don't know which it is.

Thanks Dave,

I also found a write up about it in the October 1968 HP
Journal. I suspect
that the oven on the A5 board is for one (or both) arms of
the thermocouple
used for the RMS conversion. I've had one of them on for
about 1 hour, and
the Zero set has moved around a *lot* as it warmed up, but
the oven doesn't
appear appreciably warm to touch ??? but the PSU - now that
DOES run pretty
darn warm!

Accuracy +/- 0.5dB in AC mode (over most of the range 0.5Hz -
100kHz), +/-
0.25dB in DC mode

You're right they will make very nice project boxes :-)

FW: 7562A Log Voltmeter/Converter

Brief specs are on page 182 of the 1970 catalog you can download from www.hparchive.com .

Log converters are great for measuring voltages with
a large dynamic range. HP grouped them as accessories
to their Recording and Data Acquisition product lines -
to keep the pen from going off the chart.

Log converters of this era used the exponential I-V
characteristic of diode and transistor junctions to
get the logarithmic response. These have a large
temperature coefficient and must be ovenized if you
want any kind of accuracy.

I have an earlier instrument, the Moseley 60D, but
I haven't worked on it yet.

All discreet transistors and a few IC's ...Nice little power supply
...must be highly accurate as it has a "heater" (A5 Board)
recommends
20-30 minute warm up. Converts AC/DC -IN to LOG out 80dB
dynamic range,
auxiliary scope monitor . Hook two of them in series get LOG-LOG out

I'll send you a private email with scan of the description page.

The heater is almost certainly for the log element in the FB loop. The
temp. stability is needed to stabilize the thing.

HP 141T extender cables

I've made my own using parts I got from Bill Perry (502-893-8724). He can supply all the connectors including the 13W3 connectors that have the coax contacts. He can also supply the contacts. Daniels does make the tool to remove the coax contacts, If I remember correctly it is a bit pricey ($40-$50). I can get the tool # if anybody is interested.

Danger Will Robinson!...Danger!

I am assuming this is a metal case pot ( I've not seen the beast) ....if so "drilling" a small could introduce small conductive particles inside the pot .. got to be a better way

Well it's just that either the last guy who cleaned them out epoxied them shut or they came glued like that from the factory. Mine is only suffering slight mistracking - needs a good clean but getting it open will be the trick...
