HP 4193A Vector Impedance Meter - Looking for info on the special Adjustment Board

I have a working 4193A with probe. I went through (nearly) all adjustments, but gut stuck on the ALC Ref Voltage Adjustment (A13) and the IF BPF Gain/Phase Adjustment (A12). Both adjustments call for a special Adjustment Board 04193-66564. I was not able to find any information on that extender board that obviously has switch on it. I would appreciate any information on that board. While all adjustments performed so far were right on the money, I really would like to get everything set up correctly.
?
Thanks, Herbert

Re: E4402B SA power problem - need DC socket connections

Quick update.? I extracted the psu pcb and started testing cap ESRs working forward from the main ac input.
The main caps after the bridge are a pair of 680uF/200V devices in series.? No balancing resistors.
One cap tests as just an air-gap, which would explain much!? Good Nichicon replacements for these two caps are on order as are replacements for the Rifa X2 and Y2 rated caps nearby.
I am just astounded that the following stages could still manage to produce acceptable power rails, even for a few minutes, given that their input is an unsmoothed but rectified 300V sinewave!
I'll report back once I have the new caps installed.

Re: 54831M Booting Problem

Huh, thats interesting.? What TiN describes is pretty much exactly what is happening with my scope.? Before I try and track down a possible hardware problem I am going to try and swap in a new drive (possibly attempting to upgrade to XP in the process).? Since I have the recovery discs, I'm hoping I should be able to track down the drivers I need somewhere in that file folder system.? Although, based on what I read in TiN's post, some kind of NVRAM? is my next thing to hunt for since I have already checked most cables and connectors which appear fine.

Re: where to find a manual for the older 6268A? (plenty out there for the B)

I have a manual on fiche - March 1978 rev 1 06268-90001 (paper)? 5951-6173 (fiche)
?
Have scanned (hopefully) relevant pages here - ?Files? -> A temporary directory for photographs and help relating to emails and posting? -> HP 6268A
?
If no one on the group can find the whole thing scanned online then I can scan it properly and post

Re: 54831M Booting Problem

Hi zgoode,
I probably won't help much but I can only point you to a very similar problem with a Tektronix scope. Please see this thread
https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/tek-csa7404-repair-project/
in the TiN message section: NVRAM Failure (Scope boots, OS boots, but TekScope application hangs on welcome splash screens, front panel not responding

HP 4957A Protocol Analyzer - looking for disks

Hey all, I'm playing with an HP 4957A protocol analyzer and looking for some of the software that came with the ISDN/T1 pods. I know CuriousMarc has some of the standard disks but curious if anyone here has disks for some of the other pods, such as the HP 18281A BRI ISDN pod?
?
Also looking for software/restore disks for Agilent J6803B Network analyzer as well.

Thanks,

54831M Booting Problem

I'm working on restoring my 54831M, but have run into a weird error.? With the original Win95 (maybe 98, don't remember which one its on), I can't get it to boot past the Infinium splash screen.? I have tried using the OS recovery CD that is Agilent software version 2.20, but that is giving me the same result.
?
It appears to boot into Windows alright, but does not advance past an infinium splash screen, no menu, nada.? The PS2 keyboard I am using freezes up, even the numlock/capslock go unresponsive.? Switching the drive over from my 54832B allowed it to boot into XP and I do see waveform acquisition data at least (although it is very slow/laggy to navigate).? The front panel buttons and lights do absolutely nothing here even within the selftest menu of the Win XP 54832B drive, and I am not sure if it is a Win XP driver problem or a hardware problem (since I cannot test it in 95).? Are there any drivers I maybe need for Win XP that differ from the 54831M and the 54832B which I don't have?? Or is there something else likely to be the problem here.? I'm thinking there might be a chance the HDD is cooked, although it seems to test ok using a USB IDE adapter in Win 10?

where to find a manual for the older 6268A? (plenty out there for the B)

I came across one and it still works, but...

Not sure I have the strapping right on the back terminal strip.

Yves, Excellent! I’m going to need to find some connectors I have the caps and resistors needed.?

Re: Manuals for an HP3456B DMM?

Hi.

It's worth checking the DC power rails for the GPIB logic section.? It's possibly isolated from all the "measurement" analogue/digital stuff.

My old 3438A had "a lot" of 50Hz ripple on the GPIB digital 5V, that was resetting the logic/cpu every 20ms!

One very bad cap and an open cct rectifier diode replaced, and that all works fine now.

I just need to replace the front/rear input select switch, as that has frozen in the "rear input" position.?? But that's not too much of an inconvenience, yet.

Regards.

Re: Manuals for an HP3456B DMM?

Regarding the meter that only returns values, could it be that the ‘talk only’ switch is set and therefore the instrument is not accepting commands.

As was mentioned earlier, it could simply be a dip switch setting or the switch needs cleaning - always try the simple stuff first...

Hope it helps.

Could be, but I'd try some deoxit on the connectors first, especially
if it hasn't been used in a while.

Hi Andrew

?

I redid the alignment of the crystal filters of my 8591A.

I used a 10nF capacitor and a 91 Ohm surface mount resistor to build the 3 CRYSTAL SHORT.

Here are the results obtained; it might be useful for comparison.

I know you have the 8591E version, but it's the same procedure.

Is there a way to take control of the spectrum analyzer marker position on a HP8935 and dial it around like you can on a basic spectrum analyzer?

Hi Andrew,

This is the detail of the "short crystal", and yes, it is possible to do it easily.

Re: 8594E Cal Signal not Found ?

I should also make a correction that I keep saying "EEPROM" out of habit, when I actually mean "EPROM" in relation to this older equipment.? My usual work is in embedded microcontrollers.

Re: Manuals for an HP3456B DMM?

It turns out that one of my meters is not accepting GPIB commands. It can return the display value, but no other commands are accepted.
I am about half way through porting my 3455A tool to the 3456A and needed to verify my understanding on some commands. After messing with configurations for a while with no commands accepted, I changed to the other meter and everything is working and most of my assumptions were good. Once the tool is complete, I will dig into the problem meter.
My first guess is that one of the GPIB buffer chips is dead, but will check the simpler stuff first.
