No prob, though I don't really hold out any hope of a reply, i've since seen several posts on other forums all of which say people have emailed him with questions about his Youtube videos and asked

Re: always-on AC power
Usually the transformer is active to power an oven oscillator. I have also seen equipment with the power switch mounted in the back and a long shaft connecting it to the front. ed

Re: Loud HP5328A Counter
Magnétostriction noise is at harmonics of the mains , eg 100, 150,200....Hz in UK, EU. It is nonlinear with mains voltage, increasing rapidly at high mains. What's your mains voltage? Jon

Are you sure that it is the main transformer? There are two additional smaller transformers in a black case on the board. Ralf

Re: Loud HP5328A Counter
Hi Anders, when repairing TV sets in the 80ties or? 90ties we used a kind of a thick paint spray especially for noisy coils. You can try to tighten the sheet metal package and use a transparent

Thanks for answering. The 54540 should have been produced from 1993 to 1998 but is not present in the 1993 catalog and 1994, 95 and 96 catalog are not present in the hparchive. The only 1997 catalog

Re: what were the HP/Agilent oscilloscope models / mainframes that allowed at least 1 Gbps serial signal sampling?
You could use the differential probes like 1168B InfiniiMax II and alike (there are many to choose from). The problem of measuring the Gbps/GHz digital signals is that the distortion of the probe on

Re: Loud HP5328A Counter
True. It is rarely used so I guess I can power it up beforehand in those case. I will try retightening though. I guess a replacement transformer can be difficult to obtain.

always-on AC power
I noticed that 3435A and 3466A DVMs, plus the 5316A counter, and presumably other models, are set up such that AC power is *always* applied to the transformer - the power switch only controls DC

Tom - Yes, floppies. The unit is picky about the format. I found the best way is to use the SA itself to format the discs. It also seems picky about the RAM used. See attached. As I recall, you might

The 2 interconnect cables 85662-60093, 85662-60094 (85662-60220, has a SMA- f connector for the 85685A) are interchangeable between the 8566A/B, 8568A/B models. Don Bitters
