I have family?living in Sonoma as well and don't really appreciate the directing this conversation has taken, As a retired LEO I have a real issue with people who attack the guardians of our first amendment rights. The media has generally done more to protect our first amendment rights than all wars combined. And I don't say that lightly as both my son's are in the military. My oldest is a Seal and my youngest just graduated from Army Ranger school?at Fort Benning.?

?Attacking the media has always been a popular pastime for certain groups especially conspiracy theorists, Unfortunately, it has graduated to a form of Alt-Right political correctness.? I never thought I would see the day that a news organization?would be relentlessly attacked and labeled?"Fake News" for directly quoting something someone said on live?TV.?

I always thought electronics professionals, as well as hobbyist, were above that sort of nonsense, As such the last place I expected to see this sort of nonsense is here on this forum.?

Please please keep politics and conspiracy theory rhetoric away from this group.

If I want rants and abusive postings, I can find gobs of them on sci.electronics.design, surrounding a few technical gems. At least one of the (other) contributors to this thread can be found "over there".

Although it isn't directly relevant to this group, one of the good things about working at HP was that any such statements would have been quickly and effectively stamped on. That contributed to a pleasant working atmosphere.

It was a commercial TV station. We pay for it, whenever we buy something sold by their sponsors. They are supposed to be professionals, not some hack, with a free blog. They just make things up, rather than actually do their job of investigating the news before reporting it. I worked as a Broadcast Engineer and radio & TV stations. Shoddy work like this, is the main reason that I left that field. If I did my job as poorly as the 'News' the stations would be off the air more than they were on.

If it ran then failed after a little time I would tend to suspect a tantalum capacitor is shorted or shorting.? Keep that in mind when troubleshooting.? The guide might get you to the proper area then look carefully for burned caps or other components before digging in super deeply.

model 91-3C (electrical condition unknown - if you know how to test, tell me
and I'll do it) with no screw-on tips and with a section of the cable taped
for a few inches; it was probably attacked by a rogue soldering iron back in
the day. It might fit in a padded envelope or it might have to go small
flat-rate. Let me know if you're interested.

The calibration error codes are listed in service manual volume 3, page 11-15. May be ROM Checksum Error but follow recommended procedure in manual for your particular observations.

According to the HP 3586 user manual the B variant already has a BNC input that is switchable between 50 and 75 Ohms.<br>

The A and B variants were teleco &quot;specials" the C variant was the general use one, however it is quite possible that your B may not be as the manual and was customised for a specific client.<br>

A by far larger problem with 3586's is the NiCad ram backup battery which leaks and contaminates/corrodes the PCB edge connector, this must be the first check that you do.<br>

It's similar to the HP 3400A and the Ballantine 323. The HP 3403C is
a true thermal RMS meter, with 100MHz bandwidth.
And there the Millivac MV828-A which goes to just over 1GHz with 1mV FSD
(-50dBm with the 50 Ohm head)
Chopper amp and very stable...if you see one for sale make sure it comes with
the cable (Mil Spec style plug) and with the plug in 50 Ohm BNC terminator

And reliable..been using mine for over 10 years without a hiccup
And there is an Hp 3400B which doubles the hi end bandwidth over the A model
and has a solid state chopper.
The Ballantine 323A series is more versatile than the Hp 3400 series and has a much
larger scale with better reading accuracy with selectable input isolation
from case , (that the Hp hasn't), and several options, meter damping ranges, battery operation
and with bandwidths usually far in excess of the specs....the earlier ones used a mech
chopper , later ones were solid state, but specs very much the same for both.
Above might help if looking for a unit suitable for your purpose

I suspect that the WECO 372A is made up of two WECO 358A plugs along-side each other ¡®cos we always used a pair of WECO 477B sockets for 124 Ohm on the front panel. In fact the ones we used were supplied direct

from Western Electric for contract products ¡®cos the genuine article is not available commercially (I think). For Options such as on the 3586B, I believe the connectors used would be ¡°commercial equivalents¡± of the WECO products. Trompeter and ADC (Minneapolis?) are the two manufacturers which mainly come to mind.

The RCA 50 ohm WECO type connector for broadcast patch panels has a .050" pin diameter. The standard WECO 358A 75 ohm connector has a .090" diameter pin. Both possess a .375" diameter barrel. The mini-WECO (WECO 440) has a totally different barrel diameter (.298"). HP specifies a WECO 372A connector to fit the 124 ohm port.

It is worth checking to see if the 3506B has option 001. If so, HP uses the 358A/75 ohm & 372A/124 ohm connectors. The three units I have here all have option 001. If it is a model with non-optioning (one of the more rare units from what I have found), the 75 ohm input uses the WECO 439/440A (mini-WECO), the 124 ohm input uses the WECO 443A, the 135 ohm input uses the WECO 431A and the 600 ohm input uses the WECO 310 (TRS plug).

And a word of caution on the 310 plug. Although it looks like a standard 1/4" stereo plug, it is not. Dimensions are different and the tip and ring are of a smaller diameter. Pushing a standard stereo plug into the jack on the unit will most likely either distort the jack contacts or damage them requiring replacement of the jack..
