I finally got round to fitting an external VGA screen to the
E4406A. Nice little 7 inch cheapie from ebay.
Also found an old Win7 laptop on ebay, loaded the XP emulator
from Microsoft along with Virtual PC, and set the networking to
use the physical card.? All worked fine, the update went smoothly
and SSM and PN talk to the 4406 perfectly using SCPI over
ethernet.
Current firmware is A.10.08, 20070628
Thanks to Tim, John, Hardy, Dave, Kuba and Tony for advice.
Now I need to get on with actually MEASURING some stuff.

Well this is interesting.? Exactly the same outcome as GPIB
when I use ethernet with psaplot.? Also ssm still fails.? Time
to get a firmware update done I guess.
