Re: 8510C System Bus Address Error

I'm very new to my 8510C but I had a similar issue when I first assembled and fired up my system.

If I've understood the issue (which I may not have!) the problem is with the 85101 (C vs B) not any peripheral device?

The 'B' runs the system fine but leaving all wiring the same and swapping to the 'C' gives the failure message?

While I agree with Leon that GPIB address DIP switches are often a problem generally, I do not think the 85101 uses them, all addresses are set through the menus.

This is from memory as I'm not in front of the thing but these are the steps I went through to untangle things:

I assume you have you checked that the 85101C addresses are set correctly in the 'System' menu both in the the 'HP-IB Address Listing' *and* the 'HP-IB Config' menu is set to 'Factory'? I think this latter can chose between 'User Config' and 'Factory Config' and defines what happens when reset either by HPIB bus commands or pressing the 'Preset' button.

I did a 'Recall' + 'More' + 'Factory Reset' to get things to a known state, then checked that the 'HPIB Config' was set for 'Factory' (underlined) and hit the preset button.

That seemed to work although I have a vague memory of having to clear the red error message using the 'Entry Off' key?

Hello!

What might be the case here is the address select DIP switch! Try to switch all positions several times and set back to the right address again.

These Grayhill DIP switches are a nightmare... the contacts get corroded/oxidized and have no connection! I've already replaced two of them on different HP boxes! Just don't trust them and the symptom is a wrong address.

Cheers!
