Every few months I like to fire up the seldom used HP gear on the workbench.? I really love listening to the Pratt and Whitney jet engines used to cool my HP 8345A.? Being elderly and getting deafer the thrill is diminishing, however.... so I fire the beast up and let her cook for a few minutes... hook it to my 8660D just to do some quite checks.? The ranges all work, except the 100uS gate is showing a horrible .8.8.8.8.8. display. Ackkk!? Run down cellar and I am relieved to find that I did save a 5345A donor carcass.? Four hours later after swapping the front panel, and the boards, the problem is not cleared.? Pouring through the ponderous set of HP 5345A manuals provides little relief...? after some thought I come to realize the counter is fine.? The idiot owner forgot that the default power up for the 8660D is 1 MHz.? Hook her up to my never used or needed 8665A and it works perfectly.? The older I get the more I scare myself.? Any other seniors having special moments??? Peter
