I have an HP8590 with the 0950-1977 power supply unit inside.
In the power supply the Class X capacitor has melted down. I want to
replace it, but I can?t read the Farad value anymore.
The only indication left is 250V SH LD and number 40/085/56. It is the
capacitor directly at entering of the 230 Volt, inbetween the 230 Volt
points.

Do you have information regarding the Farad value of this capacitor.
Ahh, a Rifa. Bet that smelled nice.
The capacitance of these line bypass capacitors is not at all
critical. Just find one of the proper safety class and the right
physical parameters, and it will be close enough.
