Gentlemen: Let's begin discussing which week we'd like to reserve the PEI DX Lodge. Our goal is a week that works for all four of us. Be sure to post what DOES NOT WORK. How about giving your top three choices in the order of your preference? My wife, Barbara, announced yesterday that she was planning on coming to PEI with us. That was a boost to my planning! Phone Conference Wednesday, 19 February at 1:00 PM PST 3
Adventurers: We have a planned telephone conference tomorrow, Wednesday, 19 February 2020 at 1:00 PM PST (I think this is 10:00 AM Thursday for Peter and 3:00 PM Wednesday for MAC). Joe and I will be together in Hillsboro, Oregon and will call MAC and Peter. There was a question about adding an additional person. Ken advises that there is a decent couch in the Operator's Lounge for someone to sleep on. That would make 8 of us. There is no difference in the cost of the Lodge if we add the eighth person (non-ham). I expect the lounge space would be occupied by one of the men. Equipment Carried In We discussed if and how much equipment we would carry with us to PEI. - JOE: KX2 with antennae, FT-60 and Arrow Satellite Antenna; end-feds - MAC: KX2 and various antennae - EV: KX3, FT-60. Maybe something to supplement VHF/UHF Travel Arrangements - EV/Barbara: Will fly to Boston, MA via Alaska Air on September 2nd. Rent a medium SUV. Travel in Massachusetts and Maine until September 15. Arrive on Tuesday, September 15 and stay near PEI DX Lodge unless entry can be arranged that night. Leave on September 28 to return to Boston. - JOE/Nancy: - PETER: - MAC/Lynn: Food Near DX LODGE We have had good experience setting up a meal calendar so each of the team takes on preparation duties in rotation. We do not include the women in the schedule, but don't turn away interested help. We have had good experience sharing a meal together each day, usually breakfast and lunch is on each person. Restaurants and groceries are convenient to the lodge. There are numerous restaurants within ten miles of the DX Lodge. They come in various flavors: American; Ethiopian; Greek; Italian; Japanese; Mediterranean; Peruvian; Steak House; Thai. The International Shell Fish Festival takes place in Charlottetown, about an hour and a quarter away. The McKinnon Homestead Scottish Ceilidh and Show is in Richmond, about 35 minutes away. The North Cape Drive has a couple of places to eat...and view the northern end of PEI. At Tignish, at the northern tip, there is Wind & Reef Seafood Restaurant. Tignish was founded in the late 1790s by nine francophone Acadian families, with further immigrants (mostly Irish) arriving in the 19th century and settling mostly in the nearby smaller locality of Anglo–Tignish (meaning "English Tignish"). Many of Tignish residents today are either of Acadian or Irish heritage. There is a Foodland Market 1/6 mile and the O'Leary Farmers Coop in O'Leary 6 miles away in O'Leary. The Anne of Green Gables Musical is still active while we are there. Three of us, and partners, will participate. We need to decide whether we'll go with individual or group QSL Cards. 73 for now. PEI Grid Squares
Joe asked if there were multiple Maidenhead Grid Squares on Prince Edward Island. Yes, there are four grid squares that touch on the island: FN76 (North); FN86 (South): FN87 (Far North); FN85 (Far South). The FN87 square touches the far north end of the island. The FN87 square does the same across the bottom of the island. The DX Lodge is in FN76vs, which includes the northern section of the island and a lot of New Brunswick. There are many locations to attempt satellite ops while at PEI. Peter Moore update and our status
I had a nice email chat with Peter, who is in a semi-lockdown mode. The NZ Prime Minister has placed registrations on the country that greatly restricts activities. However Peter noted that golf was still ok. Based on these restrictions and how covid19 is spreading around the world, he is holding back on buying airline tickets for several months. (I think that's a good idea. Joe) Nancy and I are sequestering ourselves as a precaution. I'm getting a bit of cabin fever. Oregon's responses now includes school closures through April 28 and requests to voluntarily stay at home. All restaurants are closed except for drive through or curb service. Casinos are closed. Movie theaters are closed. I watch some TV but no sports to enjoy. I never realized how much I enjoyed sporting events until they are now all canceled. Reading a lot. We have three medical doctors in our neighborhood and they are having difficult times. One is an anesthesiologist who rented an apartment to live in after being at the hospital. She doesn't want to carry any potential coronavirus problems home. My sports car and ham radio hobbies are essentially shut down. All sports car events have been canceled thru April. Ham radio club meetings are canceled. The big DX Convention in Visalia has been canceled. I like Mac's idea of staying in St. Lucia and to go to PEI from our Chateaux. Good thinking my friend. Mac how are things in Tennessee? Are you and Lynne staying home? Canada-US Border Closed
Effective today, no termination date set yet. I will keep a watch on this. Everett Canada and the U.S. are closing their border to most travelers for an indefinite period in the hopes of fighting the spread of the COVID-19 virus. American president Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau agreed on Wednesday morning to bar travellers crossing the world’s longest land border for “recreation and tourism” purposes.

Canada Requires Masks on Airlines 5
Starting Monday at noon Eastern Canada will begin requiring face masks for air travel. Possession of a mask will have to be demonstrated during the check-in process for all international flights departing Canada or flying to Canada. (That will require physical check-in). Masks must be worn going through Canadian security checkpoints (to protect security screeners) And worn whenever a passenger can’t be physically distanced from others Passengers are expected to provide their own non-medical masks, and encouraged but not required to wear masks when using other forms of transportation. -- Everett Curry W6ABM Treasurer, SEA-PAC? 2020 Committee Assistant Section Manager/Oregon ARRL, the national association for Amateur Radio?
