I go to catalog one of the datasets on it (using RFE), and (in TSO) get prompted for the password to SYS1.VMASTCAT (expected, it has an unusual HLQ). Type SECRET.

...and RFE tells me the catalog request failed.
Tried upper case, lower case, caps lock, all no good. Did a trace on the x3270 session to make sure the correct characters were being sent.
Same problem using RPF.
Can I somehow verify (and/or change!) the password from the console?
I've had trouble via TSO before.
Run a batch job and the console will prompt.
If you're paranoid and have VM system available, dump the tracks DDR.
