Subscribers are receiving Bounce Probes...

During the past few days, many of our subscribes are getting Bounce Probe messages. Message says, "Emails to you have bounced back... ?You must take action to restore your account... ?Click here..."
?
But, when I check their delivery history, the most recent unsuccessful attempt is several days old and is a delay, not a bounce. Like this for 3/18, for subscriber who got the Bounce Probe 3/22:
?
mx03.earthlink-vadesecure.net: 450 4.2.0 Message temporarily rejected - ELNK001_512 - https://postmaster-earthlink.vadesecure.com/inbound_error_codes/#_512 Mar 18
Any ideas what's going on? And, members receiving this notice seem to be still getting mail; should I advice subscribers to ignore? or to click the "Restore" link?
?
TIA.

Bouncing is an account status.? The message(s) could have bounced on another group.? Always use the Restore link when it's received.

Thanks Duane, good point that bouncing is an account status.

But, this happened to 100’s of my subscribers, I’m very sure they are not on other listservs at 开云体育

Frankly, I’m stumped. Looking for suggestions
?- Went to 100’s of subscribers
?- Everyone should be suspect of any email saying “Hey, urgent, click on this link…”, so many have not clicked.
?- I think they are no longer receiving our listserv mail, so I cannot do a mass mailing saying “OK, click on the link"

Any suggestions?

Very confusing.?

Our owner email account got a bounce message.?

it is seldom used since it is an official club email account. Admins have their own email address.?

Bill, sorry I don’t understand. Are you saying that you have seen this problem for your listserv?

The problem: 100’s of our subscribers have received the Bounce Probe message, most have been suspicious and have trashed it. I have no way to communicate to them en masse to tell them to click on the link.?

The email account under which the groups.io account was established got one. That email is very seldom used to log in. I was surprised it got a bounce message ?

A similar problem was recently reported in Group Managers Forum. /g/GroupManagersForum/topic/111805053? The common feature there is that all the people involved were on Special Notices delivery only. Such accounts can actually be dead for a long time, but not go into Bouncing status for the simple reason that nothing's ever been sent to them.
?
If you used the Easy Group Transfer from Yahoo Groups, you probably have many such accounts. Once they do receive a group email, they could all go into bouncing at once. This could be a post to a different group, direct mail sent by a group admin (through the groups.io system), and actual Special Notice that you recently sent, or any notification/system message.
?
Have you checked the Email Delivery History on any of these accounts? If the bounces originated from your own group, that should tell you something. If that turns up nothing, I'd send a separate message - using your own email address, outside of the group - to a few of these accounts. I suspect many - if not all - of those messages will bounce too, thus verifying there is no human on the other end.
?
People continuing to use an email address that doesn't work will have to either re-subscribe, or use the Change Email function, thus providing an email address that does. ?/helpcenter/single/membersmanual#accountsaccounts_abouthtm?
?
I acknowledge that much of the above is speculative, but lacking further information this is the best I can do.
?
Hope this helps,
Bruce

Got it. That’s not the case here, the “Email to you…” messages went to 100’s of regular subscribers.?

Yes. There’s a common element. A message from a valid subscribers, with a valid email domain, their domain went “absent” (DNS down??) briefly. That caused many subscribers’ incoming email servers to bounce the message, likely after a couple of days. That’s when the “email to you is bouncing” messages went out.?

People continuing to use an email address that doesn't work will have to either re-subscribe, or use the Change Email function, thus providing an email address that does. ?/helpcenter/single/membersmanual#accountsaccounts_abouthtm?

All the email addresses in question still work.?

My big question is what to do now.?
?- Subsribers properly are sceptical of a message saying “Urgent… click this link to resolve”, many have ignored or trashed the restore message
?- I cannot write them because the listserv thinks they are bouncing
?- Is there anyway, as owner, I can override their bounce status and write to them??

Aha! You didn't tell us that before now.

My big question is what to do now.?
?- Subsribers properly are sceptical of a message saying “Urgent… click this link to resolve”, many have ignored or trashed the restore message
Understandable.
?
Perhaps they'd be less reluctant to click the link if they receive an email from a process they initiated. For example, if they were to log in using the "send me a link to login" function, that would also unbounce their account. See /helpcenter/single/membersmanual#accountsaccounts_abouthtm , "Logging in Without Setting a Password."
?
Generally, though, accepting a link from groups.io and clicking on it is the ONLY WAY to unbounce.
?
?- Is there anyway, as owner, I can override their bounce status and write to them??
I think so.
?
1. Open the member list, pull down the Filter menu and select "Bouncing."
2. Click the checkbox next to "Display Name" to select everyone on the page
3. Page forward and repeat until all the Bouncing members are selected
4. From the Actions menu at the bottom of the page, select "Send Message"
5. Compose your message and send.
?
I just did this with one bouncing member in a different group, and it seemed to work okay (at least I didn't get an error message).
?
If it fails, you'll have to contact them offline, from your personal email. You can get a CSV list of Bouncing members by selecting them all again (as described above) and then clicking the Download button.
?
Regards,
Bruce
