transfers from yahoo groups - expected time to completion? #yahoo #transfer

Love groups.io, i'm excited to move over.

However, I'm confused by the process of transferring a group from yahoo to groups.io.? I requested a transfer of a yahoo group 3 days ago (Aug 28) and am unsure whether i sent the transfer invitation properly, whether it was accepted, and what i should expect.? The transfer page says i did initiate a transfer, but doesn't have a clear indication of where we are in the process and when the expected completion date might be.

I am probably missing something obvious - I'm new to groups.io, but am looking forward to moving my group over.

Thanks so much for any help.

Matt.

I have the same questions.? I sent a transfer invitation over a week ago and have yet to receive a reply to the invitation.? I feel sure the management is overwhelmed with the work load.? I will wait another couple of weeks and inquire.

Jim

If you follow the instructions and steps found at /yahootransfer and /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups, things should be smooth.? Just don't get in a hurry and make sure you don't skip a step.

Additional info in /g/GroupManagersForum/message/10386 and /g/GroupManagersForum/message/10832.

I have followed the steps Duane, I haven't received a response and don't know what method of notification I will receive, if any.? I spend about 2 weeks reading all the links you gave before I started.? Thanks for pointing them out though.

As Duane said, follow the instructions in this message /g/GroupManagersForum/message/10386

When the transfer agent has accepted the invitation and joined your Yahoo group, you will receive an email to that effect. If you don't know how to send a Yahoo invitation, that information can be found at??

Jim,

The In Process page for your transfer should tell you the status of your invitation. If it says it has been received then you're good. You'll be emailed (at the address that initiated the transfer) further instructions once the transfer agent accepts the invitation.

Be patient.
I have been waiting for over a month.
When I get time, I will do it manually.

Art -- It should not take a month. Have you visited the group transfer page lately? What does it say at the top?

I am curious about the process beyond what information I can find or have seen here and in other posts. ?

According to the transfer page it says that I should have heard about the status and received a message in a day or two. ? If not to start the transfer process over again.

I have followed the directions carefully but no answers and nothing in the In process box, so I assume it is taking longer than what the page says.? The original request was over a week ago and I have filed updates to the request as directed.? It appears that the only way I will know if the invite is delivered to [email protected] will be if I receive? an email or some kind of post to the Yahoo page.

Can anyone tell me if there is a problem with my request or if there is a longer delay than on the Transfer Page?

Jim

Jim,

According to the transfer page it says that I should have heard about
the status and received a message in a day or two. If not to start
the transfer process over again.
A screenshot would help me understand what you're seeing. I don't currently have any transfers in process to compare with.

I have followed the directions carefully but no answers and nothing in
the In process box, ...
What do you mean by "nothing in the In process box"? It is a drop-box, you have to click on it to see the list of your transfers In Process. If you've clicked on the drop button and no Yahoo Group names appear then you haven't actually started a transfer. If one or more Yahoo Group names appear, click on one to bring up its "In Process" (status) page.

so I assume it is taking longer than what the page says.
So far as I know it takes no time for the site to put the Yahoo Group name into the In Process list after you click the "Start Group Transfer Process" button. Hence my desire for a screen shot, as I can't see how the setup page changes after clicking that button (without starting a transfer).

The original request was over a week ago and I have filed updates
to the request as directed.
If you've been clicking the Update Transfer button your transfer request that may be putting you to the back of the queue each time. But I think that button is only on the In Process page, which you say you can't find. So how is it that you "file updates to the request" and where is that directed?

It appears that the only way I will know if the invite is delivered to
[email protected] will be if I receive an email or some kind of post
to the Yahoo page.
A banner on the In Process page should tell you. See the screenshot here: /g/GroupManagersForum/message/10162

Can anyone tell me if there is a problem with my request or if there
is a longer delay than on the Transfer Page?
Aside from what you can learn from the user interface, only [email protected] can tell you anything about what's going on behind the scenes.

It took a good week for my transfer to come through, and I repeated the request 3 times. I think they're backlogged with everyone fleeing yahoo.

According to what you say here they system is not receiving the invite from Yahoo. ?

On the Start Transfer page, at the bottom is in bold letters is the words In Progress.? Nothing is in that little drop down box and never has been over the two weeks I have been attempting to accomplish this task.

I have been to the help page, been to this group and read everything I could find and it has been without success. Oh well I guess it was not meant to be.

Jim

My status here is that my invite to "transfer@... " (twice) has never been responded to.
My invite occurred when the transfer person was on vacation.
Should I start over again??
Thanks

That could be true. But you haven't answered my questions so I'd say that's just a possibility.

On the Start Transfer page, at the bottom is in bold letters is the
words In Progress. Nothing is in that little drop down box and never
has been over the two weeks I have been attempting to accomplish this
task.
Does clicking on it produce any response at all?

It should at least drop down an empty list (the top line of the list is always just that hyphen that you see when the drop-down is closed). If not maybe there's a problem with the browser you're using. That would be a bug to report to [email protected], but first you should try another browser to be sure.

If it drops down a list containing only that hyphen that certainly indicates a problem with getting your transfer "into the system". So far as I know your Y!Group address should appear in the In Process list as soon as you click the "Start Group Transfer Process" button below the checkboxes, before you've even sent the invitation.

I have been to the help page, been to this group and read everything I
could find and it has been without success. Oh well I guess it was not
meant to be.
Have you contacted [email protected] ? Ultimately that's the place to report bugs with the system.

That depends on what the In Process page for your transfer says. If it says the invite has been received then you just need to wait for notice that the invitation has been accepted. Revisit the In Process page from time to time to check for any new status messages at the top.

You need to be clear with your terminology.? You can NOT upload messages to groups.io, you can upload a file containing the messages.? You'd also need to upload the attachments as files or photos.? Also, all photos and files will be owned by you, not the correct member.

I just downloaded using PG4. Took a look at the database. I would like to know if anyone was successful in uploading the messages to GIO. To me $110 well worth the deal to get it done turnkey.

PGO only downloads from Yahoo (if it's working good enough to get things.)? Any uploading is done manually.
