Entire membership receives notification when I create Subgroups
#email
First, I'm a new Premium groups.io admin. We transferred our Yahoo Group to groups.io recently.
I am still checking settings and investigating sub-groups, etc before officially announcing the switch to our members. So, I'm wondering about notification e-mails. When I did the transfer, I discovered that all 100+ members received an automated e-mail announcement that they were joined to the group, etc. I was not expecting this, and it generated some questions from people who didn't even realize I was working on this project. Then, I created a sub-group to see if we could benefit from them (I'm thinking yes), and again, all members received a notification that I created a sub-group. How can disable all member notifications until I'm done configuring/testing this group? Certainly in retrospect, I would not have added any members until I had gone through everything but due to the compressed timing of the Yahoo groups sunset, I was under a crunch to get it going. |

Can users see? ?Second, you *could* set everyone in your subgroup to special notices only. ?Go to the subgroup. Choose Members. in Admin. Click the box beside display name to select all. (You could untick yourself or any special testing email addresses.) Use the dropdown Actions button and choose change subscription. Change to special notices (or no mail, if you allow that.) Ok, so for the subgroup Privacy Settings, Visibility:
"Group Listed in parent group, messages viewable by parent group members" I'm the only member of this subgroup. However.. I now believe I was mistaken in thinking the entire membership received a notification that the subgroup was created. I have a couple of e-mail addresses in this group, only one of which is a member of the subgroup. So, when I received the email notification that the subgroup was created at both addresses, I believed that all members received it as well. Now, I realize that both of those members are owners with all notifications checked, including "Email when someone creates or deletes a subgroup". Ugh... False alarm. That said, I appreciate your input and I may use your suggestion to bulk change the notification settings for the members should I need to for any reason moving forward. PS - groups.io: Unless I'm mistaken, there's no way for me to select all members at once for a mass change. I can only select 20 at a time per page of users displayed, correct? |
