Re: How long before transfer of Yahoo Group?
I am having the same problem.
I created the groups.io group. ? no subgroup involved.? I clicked the Start New Trasfer button I sent an invite to my Yahoo group from the Yahoo group invite panel to [email protected] 4 days later [email protected]?accepted the invitation. ?That was Tuesday. ?It's now Friday. I made [email protected] a moderator on my Yahoo group.? I was expecting an email directing me to make the?[email protected]?member a moderator. ?That hasn't arrived. ?Perhaps I moved to early? I expected the In Process selection to offer something other than a "-". ? What do I do next?? |
Re: Help with Removal of Email IO Group Links
Just discovered something new!! ?Hopefully this will help you, Mystic - in the settings section, under privacy, if you choose "mask all email addresses in the web archives", it seems to remove all verbiage that you're trying to get rid of. ?This appears instead....at least for me!!!...as clickable links but the individual addresses are gone:
?Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.

Re: can I make a group "email only"?

Is there some setting that would accomplish that??You can kinda accomplish this with hashtags. Create a hashtag with the name of your choice. Click the "use by Mods only" box and set Topic Duration to one hour (or one day, or whatever appeals to you).? After that time period each post with that hashtag will be deleted from the message archive...however, it will delete it for everybody, including the Moderators. Like Shal, I know of no way to keep it on the site while hiding it from the other subscribers. You also have to remember to insert the hashtag every time. This can be enforced as follows:? Go to Admin->Settings->Message Policies and click on both "Require Hashtags" and "Only Moderators Can Create Hashtags." If you only have one hashtag established, then it's the only one that will be used. Hope this helps, Bruce |
Re: Subscribers with more than one email address.
Mary Emerson
Sharon,
To answer your question, I'm going through a situation where someone has two accounts with the same name, but with different email addresses. I find that the older account has dominance; if I unsubscribe the older account, the newer one takes over for a few minutes, but then the older one takes over. When the older account is deleted, the newer, and preferred one, will become the permanent account. Mary |
Re: Creating a Subgroup Changes the Email Address of the Main Group?
#subgroups
#changing
Yes the old email "posting" address still works. However the messages delivered will now come from "main" or whatever you choose to rename the main group. So there is a small possibility your members will be confused or that their own email filters will need changing.?
E.g., I received a digest message from?[email protected]?<[email protected]>, where the original email was simply?[email protected]?<[email protected]> |
Re: Using BCC to Moderators
Yvette Money
Result of my test of "Bcc Me" :? I wrote a simple message to the main group (all of our messages are moderated) that did not contain any word about trials or testing just in case.? I then Rejected the message and clicked on "Bcc Me" and "Bcc all Moderators".? I got the original notification that my message had been rejected but no others.? By clicking on "Bcc Me" and "Bcc all Moderators" I should get 3 messages about this, shouldn't I since it was my own message that was rejected???
In the Moderators section, under Notifications, I already have "email when someone reports a message" checked so I guess that doesn't help either. -- Yvette in Ontario |

Under notifications, what choice might allow the "BCC to moderators" through?? I am thinking "Email when someone reports a message" ?? ?None of the other choices look like they might help. To answer the question about whether I used the "BCC to moderators" online or through my own email - it was online.? I never do anything through my own email and always go to the group website when dealing with anything to do with the group. One choice I have never tried is "BCC to myself" because I was trying to notify the rest of the moderators of my actions regarding a member's message so I don't know if that feature works on our site. I felt that "BCC to Moderators" would be enough to send me a message as well but it didn't send a message to myself or any of the other moderators.? I will try rejecting one of my own messages and send a "BCC to myself" and see if I get anything.? I won't put the word "Test" in it so that there are no chances of rejection through using the word (as was suggested in one of the replies). If this is a bug,, I can understand it not working correctly and hope it can be fixed soon.? If it isn't, I am hoping that someone can point me in the right direction to fix it for my group and possibly others that are experiencing the same issue. Thanks, ? -- Yvette in Ontario |

Have you made the link for posting in Groups.IO for your list(s) available to your members and explained the reasons for this change to them? You may also ask members to send posts to your email personally, they may be having trouble posting and you can then forward these to the new list.

Re: Subscribers with more than one email address.
Sharon,
On YahooGroups, if people subscribe from 2+ email addresses, yahooIf you jump through the correct set of hoops to add those addresses to the same Yahoo account. You could also jump through a different set to add each to its own Yahoo Account. The latter is the natural result if they are two or more Yahoo Mail addresses. Since Groups.io only has an email address, a name, and preferences ¡ªCorrect. Each subscribed email address is the ID for its own account. There's some hope that Groups.io will someday allow multiple subscription addresses to be managed under a single account. There is an advanced setting for your account that allows for an Email Alias, but that address is not subscribed to any groups, and won't receive any group's messages - it is strictly a send-only alternative to posting from your account address. Re: can I make a group "email only"?
Nancy,
We're using a group only to send notices out to our volunteers viaThere isn't a setting that restricts the Messages section any tighter than members-only. I think the idea generally is that it is up to the member whether they prefer to receive messages by email or read the group on the web. Is there really some reason they /shouldn't/ be able to do that, or were you merely saying that it is unnecessary? Re: Cannot create subgroup
#subgroups
Tammi,
After I setup the group, I went to create subgroup. When I hit add, aNo, but if it is a brand-new group the parent group may need to be approved first. Some functions are disabled until the group is approved, and it may be that subgroup creation is one of them. That's just a grasping-at-straws guess. Re: What is a Subject Tag?
Nancy,
I just want to know ... what is a subject tag?Just a bit of text you can add to the Subject line of every outbound email message from your group. They don't show up (generally) in your group's Messages section. I've been assuming it is [my group¡¯s name] but don¡¯t know the purpose. The idea is to give the email user some visual indication of which group this message came from, and also to allow them to make simple email filters based on the group tag in the subject. If you imagine your email inbox full of messages from various groups and individuals you can see where this may be handy. They don't have to be the group name in full, that's why they're editable. I shortened the tag for this group to [GMF] because the full name [GroupManagersForum] takes up a lot of room in a list view of one's Inbox. The [square brackets] around the tag are technically optional, but they are very traditional and serve to separate the tag visually from the actual message topic. Are all group members automatically added to updates group?
#addmembers
I've just had a large group transferred and most of it looks really good. I added myself as a test member and found that the new account was already subscribed to 2 groups. The other group was "updates" with 527,000 members and single message delivery.
The last thing in the world I want is for all the group members I'm soon going to be adding to be getting single messages (even just once a week) for a very technical group that they didn't explicitly join. I know one can just unsubscribe, but can this default setting be disabled? I thought I saw a checkbox somewhere, but I am unable to locate it now. Did I imagine it? |
Re: Another Snag
Pam
Thanks! I'm trying to be patient, I swear, lol. Just soooo close to being done with Yahoo forever? :D I guess my main question is - am I gumming anything up by continuing to try to do the transfer. As in, is clicking that "Go ahead with Transfer" over and over causing a problem in the queue? I really, really don't want to do that for myself or for any others. Or do you suppose it's not going through at all and it's like I haven't clicked it? Thanks again for so much marvelous help and advice!
