Sugar,

If you can create the subgroup, the group owner will still be the group and
now the subgroup owner. You'll still be moderator of both, too.

hi, sorry when in creating a sub group under ¡°who can create sub group, there is a dialog box. By default it is set on subscribers.

Should that be changed to owner or owners and moderators if desired?

Thanks

Re: Question About RSVPs

Tiffany,

We don't use the event calendar in any of our groups, so I can't
answer that.

Someone here, though, surely can. If not, you can contact support at
groups.io. There really is a person there who will really answer your
question! :-) But it's best to try to get answers in groups like
this one first.

Do you know if the RSVP feature is only for an upgraded plan? It's just so strange that I don't see an option to have members RSVP when I add an event.

This has been discussed extensively on beta@ and Mark never mentioned anything about a legal requirement, so I doubt that's it. Search there for FBL or Feedback to find those threads. I think this was the first:

I would guess that Y! is complying, but their
emails just aren¡¯t flagged as spam as often.
I think Yahoo Groups does not implement any Feedback Loops. That's because I've never heard of a Yahoo Groups member being removed for that reason, and because the mechanism itself, as I understand it, is a relatively recent development (newer than the end of Yahoo Groups development).

Consider asking a few of your best members if they would help you test
your IO group. Have them post in both groups for a few days and use
whatever features, like the event calendar, they would be using if it
were the regular group.

That way you have multiple people seeing the results of testing and
can rule out something only happening on your end.

Thank you.
I remember being designated to approve posts in an old Yahoo group. I discovered then if someone belonged to 2 groups and hadn¡¯t updated their new email in both groups the ¡°other¡± group would bounce but Yahoo considered only that they had bounced and I¡¯d have to contact the person to find out what was happening. Usually they didn¡¯t know either, lol.

Question About RSVPs

Hi there,

A couple years ago I researched switching our group from yahoo groups to groups.io and set up a test group. Sadly most of our members chose not to switch at that time. Fast forward to today and they are now seeing the light. There have been some new updates that I am exploring from the last time I was looking into this. One of them is the RSVP function, which I'm really excited about. However, I can't seem to get it to work. I have made several test calendar events and checked the "invite group" box when adding the event. I did receive an email for it but I don't see anywhere that I can RSVP. Am I missing something?

Additional information is that currently I am the only member of the test group, and when I receive the email event invitations it shows that an error has occurred, but only when on my PC. There is no error message when viewing from my mobile device. I do see all the event details on the email from my computer, so I don't know what the error is about.

Thanks for any help!
Tiffany?

Re: Define Bounce

Nancy,

I see a lot of posts about bouncing - AOL bounce or Yahoo bounce. I
just want to know what is a bounce?
Most often a "bounce" is when an email service refuses to accept an incoming message. The receiving service gives a three-digit code and (optional) text explanation for why the message is not accepted. In some cases the sending service (groups.io, in the case of messages here) can't make a connection to the intended receiving service, and that too is considered a bounce.

That much is pretty simple. Unfortunately, automatic handling of bounces, as both Y!Groups and Groups.io attempt to do, turns out to be more complicated than anyone would want it to be, because the details of why the bounce happened and whether it is likely to be a permanent situation or a transient one vary so much.

i have 5 members with a blue bounce.
That means that Groups.io has determined that the delivery failure is unlikely to resolve by just retrying, so Groups.io stoped attempting to deliver group messages to that address and instead sends occasional notices (probes) asking for the member to confirm receipt of the notice.

If there's no response from the member after a number of these notices have been sent then Groups.io gives up sending even the notices and changes their status to "bounced" - a B in a red badge.

In my searching I¡¯ve discovered a probe and sent one to each but I
don¡¯t really know how to reply if they answer with a question.
Tell them to look for a notice (the probe you sent, or one of the automatic ones) in their Inbox, Spam folder, Trash, or wherever an incoming email message may have been placed by their email service. If they find it they should follow its instructions. Once Groups.io receives their response to a probe their account will go back to normal status and the sending of group messages will resume.

Re: Archive settings

Matty,

Once downloaded, what is the mechanism for either accessing or
reinstating the data?
The .mbox content (inside the .zip file) is plain text, so you could open it with a plain text editor such as Notepad (on Windows). But what you see that way is a "View Source" of all the messages, one after the other. Which is not very easy to navigate or use, but you can search it and copy out text.

To see it in a more useful form you need a program designed for reading email, such as Thunderbird. Thunderbird doesn't make this process easy, it doesn't have an "import" method for .mbox files, you either need to install an add-on or put the file in a folder under Local Folders in Thunderbird's internal data structures. Perhaps some other email readers make it easier.

There is no process for reinstating the data at either Groups.io or Y!Groups, though support at Groups.io may be able to do that for you. It is possible that other mailing list services or software could accept an .mbox file and make a new list archive from it.

Read the Help page on bouncing. It's all explained there. "Help" is at the bottom of every page.

Re: Photos

Nancy,

We need to know when a new photo goes in since we can¡¯t sort to get
that feature.
There's a wishlist item for a feature like Y!Groups' Photostream. That gives you a single list of all photos in chronological order.

Perhaps more to the point, there's a longstanding request for a "notifications overhaul". The intent behind that is to give you a place online (with optional email) to look for changes in your group. Such as new photos added.

And of course, a request to be able to moderate uploads to features like Photos and Files independent of message moderation.

I don't believe there any plans to break out the permissions any more than they are now, but I'm not sure. You might suggest this on beta@.

Mark has said that he doesn't want to end up with so many controls that navigation would be a problem, but has softened his stance somewhat because of requests like this. Several of us have supported these because having a control that you don't use is preferable to not having it available if needed. I think this idea could be incorporated into the update to moderate all submissions.
