Brad -- Did you change the name before giving the go-ahead, or before setting it up?

If you changed the name at Step 1 of the transfer process, you should be fine. If you changed it at Step 4, I can't imagine any good coming from that.

While waiting for the transfer, I did a Direct Add, and the welcome message that was received did not match the Direct Add welcome message ¡ª both in that it didn't include my custom text *and* it gives the incorrect URL (with "test" in the name).
There are several adverse impacts to renaming a group. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Renaming-a-Group

I'm quite concerned that all 1,000 members of the old Yahoo Group will be sent this welcome message with the wrong URL. Is there anything I can do to get this straightened out ¡ª before the transfer is complete?
Go to Admin>Settings>Member Notices and edit it. But if I were you, I'd immediately be going to the transfer status page to see if the group names listed remain correct -- and if not, what you can do to fix it. You can fix the welcome message anytime, but you don't want your transfer to hang.

Good luck,
Bruce

Thank you so much. I'm editing the default message now. What a relief! (Gotta start watching for those extra tab choices along the top . . .)

You don't have to do it.? You should consider it if you're using the same email address as owner of the group here that you used on the YG.? To some, the join date is a status symbol.? One reason for (temporarily) making another email address you have the owner here is to preserve all of your "linkage" on the group being transferred - files, photos, etc.? Your account information wouldn't be copied from YG if it already exists here.? Hope this is more clear than it sounds. ;>)

Re: Notice of Pricing Change

I agree we all should give our full support. If funding is needed we can start a gofundme solicitation. Any venture capitalist should be avoided since the would start calling the shots and his hands would get tied up.
Those who complain about the pricing, should stop and think for a moment.

Why remove primary email address from group before transfer #yahoo #transfer

Gareth Jenkins

I'm looking at the checklist for transferring from Yahoo in the wiki and there is a stage that says "Maybe remove your primary email address from your group@ (preserve your Join date)".? I'm struggling to understand this - can anyone help?? I have set up a groups.io group to transfer a Yahoo group, with me as the owner.
  • If I remove my email address from the group how can I log in to manage the transfer?
  • Is the idea that I use an alternative email address as the owner address?
  • Is there a problem in that if the address I used for setting up the groups.io group is also in the Yahoo list it will lose its owner status after the transfer?
  • Is there a reason why I would want to preserve my join date?

Any help much appreciated.

Re: Cover photo choice?

I'd flip that belief.? I recommend assuming that any photo that doesn't state that it's free to use, is in fact, not free to use.

There are many websites out there that provide copyright-free or creative commons licensed photos.

That may happen as soon as the invitation is sent.? Mark mentioned that the system compares invitations to requested transfers.? If you haven't requested a transfer, the invitation will get tossed in the bit bucket because you didn't follow the instructions.? It gets updated again when the invitation is accepted.

That's what I thought. I've made the agent a mod on all my YG lists that I'm importing as sub groups to the main lit, but there's no sign of the go button no matter how often I reload the transfer page

According to the steps in /g/GroupManagersForum/message/19673 it only depends on how long you wait to click on the button, step 16.

Re: You have 1 transfer in process or completed

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hi Shal,?

Thanks for getting back to me.

On the Easy Yahoo Group Transfer page (with the red notice on the top) I followed instructions under Steps to Transfer Your Group, in order, through step 5 (including the one year payment)

When returning to the page (step 6) and selecting the Yahoo group from the drop down and then clicking on it, nothing happens, but the message under the drop says the transfer is in process.

Do I just start over or am I being impatient? See the image below.

I'm not sure what you received, where, or how, but if you mean the status box that reads "We've received the invite..." then you've said things out of order - it can't have been received before you sent it.

You click on the drop-list to open it, then click on the name of the Yahoo Group to access its status page.

Have a closer look at the sequence of screen shots in this Wiki Page:
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups

You'll recognize the Subject text of this message from the screen shots showing the bottom of the transfer instructions page. There's also an example of the drop-list open to show a list of five transfers, some completed, some not.

You can't on free or premium groups.? You might be able to if you had an Enterprise group.? I'm in a similar situation, secretary of a club.? I've created a canned "Rejected Subscription" type of Member Notice and made it active.? When someone that I don't recognize tries to join, I just reject the application.? It basically says:
"You must be a member of our club to join this group.? Please contact the club secretary at [club email address] for information or if you believe that you're already a member."

Just an important point - people who are transferred from Yahoo Groups, people you "direct add" (a premium feature), or people you invite using your group invitation process, do not get the Pending Subscription Notice.

Re: Can not get transfer request to show up in the "In Process" list

Bruce,

Thanks for the response -?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/20484

I don't think so, if you look the member join time, [email protected] joined shortly after I after attempted to do the transfer, less than a day ago so I can not see how that could be months or years ago. Also as I was going though the steps, yahoo let me invite [email protected] Maybe yahoo groups messed up and updated that joined date and allowed me to send an additional invite even though it was already there but unlikely (yes I know yahoogroups has lots of issues so maybe.)

I have read that message 19948 several times. I have clicked on the box to insure there are none there, that has never shown "We've received the invite..."

Again, my question is when does groups.io update the box with the "We've received the invite....", after I start it in groups.io or after it is started and a request to join is sent to groups.io (from the yahoo group), or even sometime later, like after groups.io accepts that invite and sends the email? My guess is the latter and it looks like there was a glitch because everything worked up to the point of transfer@groups being a member of our yahoo group.
Having this information between steps 3 and 4 of the Easy yahoo group transfer would help people know what has worked or not worked. Maybe say something like, "The status will get updated to "We've received the invite..." after you have sent the invite from your yahoo group, we have received that invite and responded to it and sent you an email. Sorry but there is know what of knowing if any of these items have happened till you see the [email protected] accept the invite.." or the email, if groups glitched and did not send the email or some spam filter grabbed it have a status "email sent) or however it works.

Sorry to babble, I can see I am.
Thanks in advance for your support!
On a related note, even though it looks like I hit a glitch, it VERY refreshing to actually get support, thanks again, so much better than yahoo!
Darci
