When to make Welcome message active

Frances,
?We¡¯ll do what you suggest and change our wording to match the idea that it goes out after the transfer.

I would finish writing your Welcome notice and activate it.
If I am wrong, it won't do any harm!?

Re: signatures

Connie, I tested it and couldn't see any way to do it. There is no image or attachment icon on the toolbar. You can put in a URL link. Also there is a Special Character tool.
I tried and succeeded in making this one.

Re: Group Upgrade Payment Debacle (was [email protected] e-mail address?)

Thank you for the reply Duane, I am hesitant to share the rest of this story but did not hear from anyone at Groups.io yet nor know if they received my inquires so here goes. I'll try to make this as brief as possible.

On Monday 10/21 fearing the multiple 'deadlines' speeding out of our control I decided to take the plunge and began upgrading my three existing Groups.io groups from "Free to 'Premium' at the then effective 1 year for $110 Premium rate.

As I was working through the groups in no particular order the I found the payments on Groups.io were slow to process and was dumped back to the enter credit card info screen several times.

After entering the same billing info several times for each group I finally received a successful completion for the first group and eventually a successful payment completion for my second group of the three at $110 per group for a year of premium service..

When I attempted to upgrade my third group the payment would not process. I called my bank and they said all was fine with my card and the bank agent said she saw the successful payments to Groups.io for groups one and two that had processed.

After talking to the bank I continued to try and ;'upgrade' the 3rd group multiple times over the next 8 hours using both the original and a second confirmed fully functional credit card yet my upgrade transaction for the third group would still would not process. I even switched browsers, devices and ISP's.

I continued this right up until the 0900 PDT 'deadline' at which time the yearly premium upgrade price for my third group doubled from $110 to $220.

I stopped at this point after having been up all night trying to give Groups.io my money.

I wrote [email protected] several times along the way providing invoice numbers and group names but haven't heard anything about my third group which remains in 'free' status with an offer to upgrade to yearly premium for $220. My first two IO groups are 'Premium' and ready to begin migration, .

Migrating the first two groups from Yahoo to groups.io makes no sense for me without the third due to overlapping members who cannot be members of all three groups.

I've already received bot info from IO about migrating one of the three groups but am hesitant to start not knowing the future status of my third group.

I do not want to deal with the complexity of managing and transferring the groups as sub-groups and opted to pay $110 each for all three groups as stand alone entities with the storage etc that would afford but now feel like I just wasted $220 for the first two groups in the process.

I can't afford to pay another $220 for the 3rd group on top of $220 already paid for the first two due to what my bank suggests was a Groups.io payment processing glitch out of both their and my control. The payment method used for groups one and two remains on file at IO for group 3 but no updates.

Thank you for reading and offering any suggestions.

So sorry to ask again but does anyone know the answers? I know you all are incredibly busy. We are trying to figure out just how to word our message.

Many thanks?

Re: Suggestion for the Members Page #members #search

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I'm sorry, but it's not very intuitive.? Like most everyone else that has a search they have a small "x" in the search box that clears the search and resets the list back to no selection.

Try this, on the members page select something then without doing anything else try and select something else.? Your first selection will pop back up in the selection box.

Might be a plug-in interfering.? I use FF (albeit an old version) and have no problems.

Re: Acceptance time frame for [email protected] account #transfer

I purchased a Premium Plan, requested a transfer from Yahoo Groups, and invited [email protected] about 9:00am ET this morning.

I received an email from groups.io to make [email protected]?a YG moderator at 6:44pm this evening. I did so and gave the transfer go ahead.

So, almost 10 hours from invite to transfer go ahead.

Locked Latest info on pricing structure #announcement #pricing

Hi

A repost of an article that was sent out earlier this evening. People still haven't seen it.

Hi All,
?
Sometimes I reflect on my youth, and harken back to that simpler time, that quieter time. You know, seven days ago.
?
I appreciate all the feedback, and I mean ALL of it. My intention with the pricing change is solely to set up the business for long term success and to help offset the very large increase in my costs over just this past week.
?
I realize it was a mistake to talk about future changes to the pricing structure without actually, you know, knowing what those changes might (or might not) be. As part of that, it was a mistake to change the definition of a free group right now. I've rolled back that change; new free groups do not have limits on the number of subscribers and subgroups. Hopefully this will address Harm Selling's concern, among others. Also, this means that any groups that wish to move over but cannot afford the transfer fee can still take advantage of a free group's invite feature.
?
I apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
?
Thanks,
Mark

Re: Notice of Pricing Change

Protection laws from what?? From Yahoo closing a service?? From Groups.io raising fees?? We live and operate in a capitalist society.? Businesses need money to stay in business, and cutting costs is a way to save money.? I bet that yahoo has heaps of data on the whole of their yahoo groups and I bet it shows that a very large percentage of the groups are totally dead, just eating up server space for no reason.? I would wager that 90% of all of the files/photos on all of the yahoo groups have not been opened/viewed/downloaded at all in several years.? I'm on a dozen Y!Gs and they were all VERY active 15 years ago.? Lots of files being uploaded, photos shared, dozens of emails every day.? Those very same groups today have nothing new being shared and possibly about one email per month on average.
?
As for your absentee owner, is the owner dead, or just not checking the emails from their old yahoo group?? If the owner is dead, you're out of luck.? If not, I suggest you search for that person on the internet.? Use their name, display name, and interests to narrow down your search.? Maybe you'll be able to find an active email address or even phone number for them.? Don't rely on the groupname-owner@ email address to reach them
If you have their old email address, try sending to new email addresses with the same username and different domains.? For example if the person was Thea Johnson and their old email address was tjohnson25@..., try tjohnson25@... or thea.johnson@....? It's a huge long-shot, but it probably won't take more than 15-30 minutes and you might get lucky.

Uggh. I'm not sure how to broach to my neighborhood listserv that it wasn't free as we'd been told.

Tell them the truth of the matter, which is that Groups.io was a fairly small company who happen to have an existing Yahoo transfer method, so they suddenly deluged with transfer requests and LITERALLY have to run out and buy new servers to cope with all the new data and traffic. ?Yahoo refugees, and existing io customers are all effectively putting money in the hat to help grow this company faster than they were ready/had funds to do so.

I imagine they will go looking for venture capital soon, but the terabytes ?of data are being pushed from Yahoo to io right now... Like TODAY. ?Thus the 6h server maintenance downtime last night I expect...?

I don't envy the backend engineers at Groups.io - all vacation cancelled til Christmas I imagine!!

Sorry to be dense, but where are permissions set, if they are different from Roles? I have both moderators set to that Role.
Other than that, I don't see any place to set specific permissions in their Membership.

In the group's Privacy settings, I have the Member Directory set to "Moderators and Owners." For all other options on the Settings page, I also have "Moderators and Owners" specified, although I don't think those options have any relevance to approving/modifying members and messages.
Admin > Members
For existing Moderators:
Select "Moderators" from the "Member" dropdown menu (near the top of the page)
Then Click on the Member's or Moderator's row (not the check box to the left of their "Display Name")
-Use "Role" menu to change to: "Member", "Moderator", or "Owner"
If set to "Moderator", scroll down to:

Approve Pending Members (also allows access to the member list)

Set Member Subscription Options (also allows access to the member list)
Set Moderator Privileges (also allows access to the member list and allows setting member subscription options)
Remove Members (also allows access to the member list)
NOTE: "Set Moderator Privileges" will allow this Moderator to change "Moderator Permissions" for all Moderator AND Owners, including promoting themselves to "Owner" and demote you to "Member" or "Moderator; or to "Delete Group"

?
To the best of my knowledge, that's not actually true Larry.? A member of a group on GIO does not need to set a password, as long as they have access to the email account they are subscribed as a member with.? If a member clicks on the "View/Reply Online" link at the bottom of any message they will be able to find a link to email a link to login.? A member can do that every time.? Clicking on that link in their email will allow them to gain access to the entire site just the same as if they used a username and password.

Re: Acceptance time frame for [email protected] account #transfer

I applied for a transfer last week and the acceptance took 2 or 3 days. Been 2 days since approval and the site isn't transferred yet. I can imagine they are running a bit of a backlog.

Suggestion for the Members Page #members #search

There needs to be a way to clear the search on the Members Page so that you can get back to the full list.
