Detailed Instructions on How to Conduct a Yahoo Transfer

Do you know how a transfer works when the transfer is setup for a subgroup? ?The easy transfer let me initiate the transfer into a subgroup, but reading the docs on subgroups it says that all members of a subgroup also needs to be a member of the parent group. ?Not sure how this will work with the transfer of member information.

At some point we need online data protection laws so the cost of deleting decades of archives after a merger is way, way more expensive than maintaining them.

Moderators Unable to Approve Members and Messages

I have a new group with two moderators. Both of them are unable to approve members and messages. They do receive notification e-mails that a member or message must be approved. However, when they click on the e-mail's link for "View Pending Member" or "View this message online," they are shown a page that says "You do not have permission to access that page." (They are logged in at the time.)

Also, on the web interface they only see one option (Activity) under Admin. (Regular users see none and moderators should see all, including Members, etc.)

Any help is appreciated.

Yes, that's what happened.? I'm also a bit surprised that it didn't generate some sort of error.

Importing messages

Hi! I am new to groups.io.? I was wondering, is there a way of importing messages from another group into groups.io? If so, how do I do this? Thank you for your help!

Re: Group transfer without members #yahoo

I think I found the answer on an earlier thread:
So if you leave the members behind during a transfer, that message will no longer be associated with any "posterid" within groups.io, because such an account does not exist. For example, you won't be able to "find" other posts by that person by searching on "all posts by this member." But the text metadata?will remain in the message base, whether the associated member is migrated or not. Specifically, the from address is not munged or changed to "anonymous."
Source: /g/GroupManagersForum/message/19979

So I think the answer is, yes it will show the original poster addresses / names but they won't be associated with the user on Groups.io and even if that same user gets added later, they still won't be associated.

I don't think this will be a problem for us.

Thanks,
Su

Issue sending invitations to "unnamed" addresses

I just invited a number of people to my new group using the "Upload
Addresses" feature on the group Invite page. Addresses with personal
names were sent OK, but those that didn't have a name seem to have been
dropped. For example

John Doe <jdoe@...>
<xyzzy@...>

The invitation was sent to the first address, but not to the second.
Looking at the Invite page again, it appears I should have left the
angle brackets off the second address, and I'll do that. But I'm a
little troubled that it dropped these addresses silently rather than
putting something in the activity log.

But thanks for the detailed error messages on the addresses that were
invalid!

Re: Not Confirmed member (NC) behind member name

You might try sending a message directly to the address. Sometimes
message from Groups.io can end up in someone's spam folder or be
ignored. I try resending the confirmation email a couple of times. I
can't recall there is an error message in the Email Activity messages if
this bounces. If there is a typo then sending a message directly will
let you know. If it doesn't bounce then it may be that the person
doesn't realize they have to confirm their address and are ignoring the
messages. I've sometimes had to remind people several times, directly,
to respond to one of the confirmation messages. Here is my routine
dealing with this.

- Resend the confirmation email a few times

- At that point send an email directly to their address.

- If this email bounces remove them from the list.

- If it doesn't bounce leave them on the list and wait for their response.

- Try again a few times and then remove them from the list and send them
an invitation to join the list.

They won't have to confirm their address with an invitation, since
they will respond to the invitation in order to accept it and that will
confirm that it was the correct address.

confirmed, so you've been removed from the group.? You may rejoin, but
be sure to click on the link in the email you receive from Groups.io to
confirm your email address." just in case they've overlooked it.

It used to send an automated reply, but that's been delayed a bit (up to 2 days in one case that I'm aware of) recently.? I think some of it is from the extra load of transfers, but that's just a personal guess.

Clarification regarding moving a Yahoo group to a groups.io subgroup #transfer #subgroups

Hello,
I successfully moved a Yahoo group here to groups.io. Now I want to move another Yahoo group over to become a sub group.
Two questions:

1) Is it possible to move a yahoo group directly to the subgroup? I understand that they will be members of the main group too. Or does the group get transferred to the main group and I (or they) subscribe them to the subgroup?

2) What happens with this list's archived info? Can it go directly under the sub group and not be mixed in with the main group's archive (my ideal)?

3) If there's a way to transfer the second Yahoo Group directly to the subgroup, we're not seeing how to do it via the "Easy Transfer .." pages. Can someone walk me through this?

Basically I'd love for this second Yahoo group to be self-contained as as a sub group, as much as possible. Just wondering what I'm able to do.

Thank you!
Jane

Re: Notice of Pricing Change

It is a few years, definitely at least 3 or 4, that a friend and I tried to get yahoo to elevate my friend (who was a moderator) to owner and me to co-owner as new membership applications had to be approved and she couldn¡¯t do it. ?The owner had gone missing and totally ignored any attempts to get in touch with her.

We never got any helpful response from yahoo at all and the group died.
So yahoo ignoring the needs of groups is not a new thing. ?And absent owners and the failure by yahoo to help and support the memberships of those groups have always been a problem with yahoo groups.

I was and am upset that we were not given more time before the fee went up to see what we could do. So I had a mostly sleepless night.?

I can understand your situation, but I think the real bad guy here is Yahoo. Yahoo has caused all this commotion, and is trying to offer you a way to keep your group. You would be surprised how many people will offer to chip in, just as I found out last year when I transferred my group.

[email protected] e-mail address?

Hi All,
My first day posting here. Does the [email protected] address generate any sort of acknowledgement indicating mail sent there was successfully receiveed and in queue for an eventual response? I wrote approx 18 hours ago about a free to premium upgrade failure and am not sure what type of response to expect during this busy time.

Thanks,
Charlie
