Paying for a second transfer to add a subgroup

How is this done, please? I can't find anything within my account that allows me to make a payment for a second transfer (from a different Y!G group) to be added as a subgroup of my main group?!

TIA, Roger Colwell

If no such advance warning is given then the likelihood of something going wrong because of a simple misunderstanding is almost certain to be greater.

I fully expect a blizzard of "removed because of spam"" queries to start before long...

Too many "groups" in your post! Yahoo groups will not provide any indication of the status of any migration to Groups.io.

Workaround due to absentee yahoo group owner?

I tried to reach yahoo customer support to ask to be a moderator with privileges to do an invite for our group with an absentee owner. It¡¯s simply not possible to reach yahoo anymore. (If someone knows how please tell me.) I¡¯ve formed a basic group with intent to manually transfer files and photos to it. I can¡¯t get at the yahoo membership list so I can¡¯t transfer membership email addresses.

Would someone explain in detail how I can transfer old messages to the basic group? They exist in the yahoo group webpage. I read there is a way to make them PDFs and upload as a file. But I understand I would be unable to search for particular messages.

But, possible second option: I also personally have copies of all of them on my computer because they came to me as emails and I kept them. Can I send those as individual emails to the basic group? I realize they would all show up as being from me but if I forward them then each would also have the original sender name in the body of the mail. So could they be searched by the putting in the original poster¡¯s name? I think this would require the search engine to be able to search text inside the body of the email.
Thank you.

If the status box says "make sure you send an invite to..." then by all means you should return to that Yahoo group and try again.

If it says "we have received your invite and will accept it soon...", then you should not.

On one of the groups it says, ¡°make sure you have sent an invite to [email protected]¡± but not on the other; I actually sent the invite to that group first, but the damn Yahoo group doesn¡¯t give me a status on either invitation.? Should I resend the invite on the group that¡¯s reminding me?

Karen -- This is not the status page.

In order to determine status, you have to select each group in turn (click on their names) by pulling down the Existing Transfers menu. The boxed message at the top of the resulting page will then tell you what's going on.

The status of a given transfer cannot be determined until you select one.

Hope this helps,

Re: Bounced because of SPAM #bouncedemails #spam

One thing to keep in mind that a lot of people currently being migrated from Yahoo Groups no doubt "didn't get the message" and will be blindsided by notifications coming from groups.io stating that they've been transferred here. If a bunch of them start flagging such notices as spam then it stands to reason that might adversely affect the reputation of the service.

I'm not trying to downplay the impact such a thing can have, only to suggest that such glitches should probably be expected; and can similarly be expected to resolve themselves after this massive influx of newbies subsides.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Thanks - I figured it out after I hit send but I figured others might find it helpful.

And, in case anyone is wondering - it appears that yahoogroups is now down so we cannot set up transfers.? grumble, grumble.

Should I be concerned?

Yesterday afternoon around 2:30 PM PDT I set up 2 group transfers, including sending the invitations to [email protected].? The status page says I have 2 groups ¡°in process or completed,¡± but I haven¡¯t gotten the instructions to promote the transfer agent to moderator.? And the transfer agent is not on the member lists of either group as of this morning.?

I do understand that this takes time, I just wondered if anyone has a feel for how long it¡¯s taking during what I¡¯m sure is a very chaotic week.

Re: Notice of Pricing Change

so glad i moved all of my groups over a year ago and told all other group owners that i knew to do the same ..
most followed my advice and some didn't and now they have to pay more or just lose their archives and access to?
group page.
I feel bad as the group has been around since 2006 and used to be very active so it's hard to see that group just
disappear like that.

Mark deserves to get paid for his work ... groups IO has been an excellent alternative and while some of my groups are enterprise -- others are free
and we've all worked extremely well.??

I do not see where I can choose what to transfer from yahoogroups - please be more specific.
Margery -- You have to start a transfer first.

When you click on the green "Set Up New Transfer" button at bottom left of the Yahoo groups transfer page (/yahootransfer), a new page will come up where you can enter the source and destination group names.

There is also a series of checkboxes for the various areas of the group to transfer (files, photos, members, messages, etc). Simply uncheck the ones you don't want before clicking the "Start New Transfer Process" button.

If you've already started a transfer, return to the Yahoo groups transfer page (/yahootransfer), select the transfer you've already started from the "Existing Transfers" list (pull down the menu and click on its name). On the resulting page you will see the same series of checkboxes. Uncheck the ones you don't want and then click the "Update Transfer" button.

I hope this helps, because I cannot get any more explicit than that.

Bruce

I think this is a good opportunity to mention this.? The GMF group is an unofficial support group for the site.? As far as we know, no one from Groups.io management monitors anything here.? We're a user-to-user group that has learned how things work, just like any new member should.? Some of us have been here since almost the beginning.? We've been able to learn things as they're added or changed, so it's been a gradual process for us.? For folks new to the site, things can seem a bit overwhelming with all the improvements that have been made and the options that are available.

Re: Is IO charging a fee now

One thing to keep in mind: "There is no such thing as a free lunch". Groups.io is not ad-supported and your privacy is in no way impacted by your use of groups.io or your membership at groups.io. Unlike Yahoo, which is ad-supported and uses your personal information to pay for the services you receive(d) there.

So, expecting Mark to pay for all of us to continue using this service (which is far superior to Yahoo Groups in my opinion), is not reasonable. The challenge is to come up with an equitable way to share the cost of the services. It appears to me that Mark is testing those waters now. I'm certainly prepared to support a reasonable cost for these services.
