Re: Daily Summary email delivery issue?
There was a Daily Summary delivery for me yesterday (March 18) and for the member reporting the issue and for the random spot check I did for a half dozen members including individuals in multiple times zones Eastern to Pacific.? However none of us got a message this morning March 19 and none of the spot checks had delivery failures either.? ?Since several members posted new messages yesterday that should have generated a Daily Summary this morning.? Email delivery history shows nothing for today, except my owner+ messages which are being delivered.? No groups summary.
?
I am guessing that the system issue reported yesterday must have had more fallout for morning email...but wanted to know where to monitor or if I am unique in experiencing the issue.??
?
For now I will watch for responses here? and monitor that beta group site to see if there is an update.??
?
(The members that started bouncing today are very old members ported from yahoo.groups.? I only mentioned in case it could be related. )

Daily Summary email delivery issue?
Is there a delivery issue on Daily summaries today?? I was alerted by a member of one group I moderate that they had no morning summary.? There delivery history? showed daily "accepted" every day but not today.? Since I often operate from the web site I checked my own email and and realize there was no daily summary delivered to my email today.? My email delivery shows no email delivery today nor do several members I checked including? a primary fellow moderator.? There was activity in our group yesterday so there should be a Daily Summary.? Is there a groups.io systemwide issue?? IF there is a place I should be checking to find alerts of system wide issues I am not sure where to look - actually that is a good thing because it means this happens so rarely I've never learned how to check for system issues.
?
Both groups I moderate are free, grandfathered if that matters.??
?
Also I noted in the activity log that shortly after noon, 12:18 pm (ET) 11 members were suddenly bouncing if that might be related.??

Re: posting visible to sender and email threads
In my group, only a sentence or two is permitted to be quoted from the original message, and even then only if absolutely necessary for clarity. We all got the original message, so no one needs to read it again.? We surely do not need the whole footer!

If I send a post by email, and it's thus already in my Outbox, GMail often filters out what comes back as a dupe. The most reliable way I've found to circumvent this behavior is to subscribe to a digest instead of individual emails.?
By default, does not quote previous content. If you want a quote to appear, you have to do it yourself. This is easy enough to do, either using the online editor or your own mail client. I am appending some text on this from the Member's Manual.

I find this to be desirable behavior. To see all the messages in context, one can always read them online.

Hope this helps,

Quoting messages you are replying to
Note:?This topic covers quoting messages that you are replying to on a group’s website. If you are replying to messages via email, the method for automatically including quoted messages in replies as well as where quoted text is placed (for example, at the top or bottom of the message) depend on the specific email application you are using. When you are replying to a message on a group’s website, you can automatically include (quote) all or part of that message in your reply. To quote the entire message you are replying to:

posting visible to sender and email threads
开云体育Basically a novice so any help very appreciated. ? Have 2 questions and wondering if there’s something I haven’t done as the group administrator.? ? 1) When I post or reply to a posting, my message doesn’t show even though I’ve clicked on the preference to receive my copies. I only know for sure it went through if someone else replies.? Not sure if this is to all group users or just me but is there something in Settings for this? ? 2) When some members reply to a message, the thread does not appear.? Other times yes, but generally no.? Why is the message, or thread, being replied to not show?? ? Thank you! Carlos McDonald ? |

You might try posting a private message to Mark Fletcher ([email protected]). In the past, he has been willing to manually import such files in exchange for a year of Premium ($220 per group).
?
You could try also using Lena's Perl script (/g/GroupManagersForum/message/22251) to re-post the messages to a group or subgroup. The script itself is available at /g/GroupManagersForum/files/ioimport.zip That approach would be free, but it runs at 40 messages/hour, and I have never been able to get it to work. I didn't try very hard, though.

See also /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/15860 . Some of the info therein is out of date.

Follow the instructions at /helpcenter/single/ownersmanual#groupproceduresgroup_upgradinghtm and select the rightmost button in the Premium block. Your cost will be $20 if you have <500 members. More members than that, and I'm afraid you'll have to pay extra.
We have received no reports of any problem with this.

Member difficulties
开云体育I run a number of Groups and try to impress on all members to NOT use a work email address and ALWAYS set up a password to enable access to the account in the event of email problems. Do they listen? No.So periodically someone changes their email address, loses access to the old one and has never set up their password for access to their account. and so are locked out. Of course they can join again, but as a different member and hence not associated with previous activities. For a free/Basic Group, of course even the owner cannot fix this, but it wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility to pay for a month's upgrade to Premium in order to fix the problem, then revert to Basic. However hoping for help with a couple of questions about this:- ? Is it possible to upgrade to Premium for just one month and then revert to Basic? ? When reverting back to Basic, can I be sure we will retain the features we currently have as a pre 2000 Group? Hope someone can help with this. Ken ?G i l l e t t _/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/ |
Re: Question: +owner messages
开云体育
I do check for group.io mail frequently in outlook on my computer. I use the app if I am out and about. The reason I said a pending owner message notification would be useful is that I have asked members of my listserv to use that address if they want something
changed or done with a message sent to the listserv. Most people send those messages to my personal email, and while I check that frequently as well, I go to the listserv messages first - as we are a "moderate all messages" group.?
It's not a huge deal to me, I replied to an ask from someone to say if we thought that a pending owner message would be useful to us. I can live without it, and have since we moved our group from Yahoo to groups.io - right when groups.io began. I love the high functionality of groups.io and am grateful to Mark that he created it. I'm not fond of the Pending idea, though. The problem is, how do you clear the "flag?" Are we going to force group admins to log in just to do this? Sending you an email to tell you that you have an email doesn't strike me as productive, either.?

Rather than a flag or badge, it might be useful to have an option?to set up a Moderator
web/app notification?for this (/helpcenter/manual/ownersmanual/notifications/notifications_mod_individual_groups.htm),
perhaps including a link to the message. Those group admins who do check their email regularly can simply not turn it on.

Nonetheless, please note that +owner messages from non-members?are not stored on the site. Unless Mark changes that too, you'll still have to launch your email to address those.

P.S. GMF gets a lot of spam sent to +owner. No way would I turn on such a notification...the emails are bad enough.
