Re: Bouncing

Yes, it did occur to me that maybe there?was?a transcription error in entering the?new?e-dress, but you inspired me to test more rigorously. I copied the address from an email the user sent me into one file and I copied the offending address from into another file and did a diff. The files are identical, so now I can say "No, it's not possible that I typed in the incorrect email address".??
?
You are right that the B for bounce is blue, not green as I had thought. So will the 3-day bounce probe re-enable the user's account if it has stopped?bouncing?

The user's new email address is a? brand-new one for him, so it's possible all the downstream-facing protonmail infrastructure updating wasn't yet complete.

Re: Bouncing

Hi,

This is an old thread but I am posting here because it is on the same topic.
  1. In a group I own, I recently changed the email address of a user and he reported to me that he got the Bounce message -- and sent a screen shot.

When I look at my Bouncing members, this member has the B icon colored green. The others listed show the B icon colored red. What does the green color mean?

?Here is what I see when I hover over the B:
    bounce hover over B.jpg

  2. ?His account is a account.? Looking through? GMF emails, there appear?to?be some protonmail users happily using? accounts.

I believe this means the address was flagged for reverification but never completed the process.

I've done a search for this term in the Group Owners Manual but got zero hits.?
Given that the Owners Manual predates reverification, that stands to reason. You might try searching GMF instead.

Re: Inactive user #directadd

Inactive User means the account has been disabled by Groups.io management.? The most common reason recently is an account that was never verified last year, so they're still considered RI.? If that's it, they can log into the account to clear it up.? It can also be because the account was found to be a spammer/hacker by Mark, so he shut it down.

Inactive user #directadd

Hello
?
When trying to add some email addresses with Direct Add, we got a few errors including some email addresses flagged as "inactive user"

I've done a search for this term in the Group Owners Manual but got zero hits. So I'm at a complete loss as to what this indicates exactly.
?
Can anyone fill me in please?

Thanks

That's not needed as long as you change the address.? It's only a problem if you try to merge a new address with an old one.

Also, don't delete your old email address before you create your new one in case you have problems.? That way you can get back in with your old if your new doesn't work.? So do a second email addy, use your old email address to change the status of that new address from member to Owner.

Andy gave you a link to the instructions.

If during the process, you get a notice that the destination address already has a groups.io account and asks you if you want to merge them, don't do it. Delete the destination account first and start over.
?
If you proceed with the merge, you'll lose all that account history that you're trying to retain.?

Yes! Having at least 2 owners avoids all sorts of problems, and if it¡¯s a larger group with lots of messages, having a few moderators helps too.

Actions that any member can do, such as changing your email address, are in the Member's Manual.? Actions that are restricted to Owners/Mods are in the Owner's Manual.

Change my email address?

Where in the owners¡¯ manual can I find instructions on how to change my email address? I am the owner of a group I started in November 2019. I only want to change my email address, not my status as owner, not my username, not my ¡°joined¡± date and status, . . . just my email address. Is this possible? And, once I¡¯ve completed that, I want my email in the GroupManagersForum to also move over to this new email address.

Advice?

Randy

The first hurdle is to know whether the original owner wanted the group to continue.? As strange as it may seem to some people, that is often their intent when they don't have co-owners.

It depends on the sort of group, but I would send a message asking if anyone¡¯s interested in starting a new group and take it from there.

If there is no other owner, you can start with talking to the family of the deceased dead owner to see if they have access to his passwords and account. The family could name a long time active member as an owner. Easy to do. You can find the instructions in Help for them.?
Once there is a new owner, make sure that at least one spare owner is created.

How to add Owners/Moderators when Owner has died

Hello, folks. I'm hoping someone can point me to information on replacing a deceased group owner with one or more owners/moderators. We unexpectedly lost our group owner recently, and I can't find anything on the IO groups material for how to add an owner when the original owner has died. Thanks.
