Can I suggest you send your group an email from your migrated group - by email to your Groups.io email address or by logging into your group space on Groups.io and sending something from there?

Then your group members will see they are still group members and are receiving email from the group.?

I hope most most of your members are receiving mail. My group is set so that Special Notices is the least frequent delivery method. If you have Special Notices only, send your first message via your group site and tick the Special Notices checkbox.?

Well its an adult film star group, so I dont think it is appropriate for here. This website is so much like yahoo groups, except for yahoo allowed adults only groups. Too bad they went under, they were the best for this type of group. Do you have any alternatives that accept adult groups and reach a wide audience.? I think google groups is dead now like yahoo?

There's no way to have a group limited to adults only. To know whether your group is acceptable, you should read Conditions of Use > User Conduct in the TOS. If you still aren't sure, you could send a message to [email protected] for clarification. I think it will depend on the content and intent of the group.

They can use the email commands, shown at /static/help#emailcommands for some. They can also sign in to the site and go to any of their groups, select Subscription from the left menu, and change as needed (being sure to Save when done.)

Hi, I wanted to transfer my adults only yahoo group to groups.io, but I cannot find any info that adult groups are allowed on here.Can anyone tell me for sure and if so how do I make my group available to adults only. I have not posted or done anything til I find out if my group is allowed. If not, I will be deleting it as soon as I get a reply. Thank You.

Bad assumption. That's clearly the message sent when your Director went to the Groups.io site and clicked on the ""Email me a link to log in" button.

either "Forget your password" or "Email me a link to log in" to access
member-only areas like Wiki.
Correct. While they're there they can set a password if they like, or they can simply use the "Email me a link to log in" button when needed and never have a password.

For receiving and posting group messages by email, nothing. They are good to go once copied in by the transfer agent.

To access members-only areas of the group web site they need to log in. To do that the first time they can use the Log In page and select either
"Forget your password" or "Email me a link to log in". They will need to enter their email address (the one copied over from the Y!Group), receive the message, and use the link in it within the allotted time.

its lifetime, do you turn into a pumpkin or do you have an option to
request access or something?
As mentioned to Secretary, the timed link is only sent in response to a user action, and is only associated with logging in to the web site.

If the link times out, just request another on the Log In screen.

You are confusing a couple of things. Firstly you and your members need
to do absolutely nothing, after the transfer they receive an email
telling they have been transferred - there is a link to click in that
email if they do NOT want to be in the new group, there is no time
limit on that link.

I think what you are talking about is the first time they visit the
group they are asked to set up a password - they will then be emailed a
link to enable that and that link is valid from one hour only from the
time they click it. If they decide not to set up a password they will
still be members but won't be able to access the group via the web,
only email.

One of our Groups is in the process of being transferred and I was really concerned to see this issue raised. We are also in the UK.
Could the link like be extended to 24 hours?

This was daytime USA, but just before midnight in the UK, so the probability of any/many clicking on the link in time is approaching zero.

What I don't understand is what I need to do next to get the guys fully active.? Advice would be much appreciated as we have our first event of the year - a repertoire whole weekend away - this coming weekend!

You're not the only one howling into that wind.
While I attempting transfer of my largest group (almost 1800);
(Transfer requested but no action yet) I have been suggesting
similar moves for nine other groups. A couple are so dormant
that YG could be down for a week and no one would notice.
Four members quit in protest when I told the group I had requested
a files transfer. They lit into me with parting comments about being alarmist,
really aggravated than YG would not let them unsubscribe; after trying
multiple times. YG sent me multiple (upto six) un-subscription notices
for each one. Later I was able to manually remove their memberships.
They blamed me because YG was non-functional, citing my desire to
move the group as the reason for their YG problems.

I have tried to help other groups that I value, in one case setting up
a shadow group in groups.io with the same name. Their reply is that
they have been with YG for 18 years and they will consider moving only when YG
shuts down. They don't seem to realize that will be to late.

Poll the members of your 'other' groups and give them a choice of outcomes.
My groups wanted the database files and photos preserved. Automatic
membership came in second. 25% were willing to ride YG into the dust
until it dies without saving the database. About 15% did not want to take
any action, even planning to develop a group on another host. It's like
watching a ship wreck and blaming the launching of lifeboats for sinking the ship.

I do need to consider how I can move photos and files (where new photos can be added
now that YG's photo function seldom works. If I can move some of those,
then I can tell YG group members that they can start a new in groups.io group.

With some YG list owners and moderators, it's like herding cats.
(I can do that, but the dog is better)

Sorry to hear about your experience J,

Having been a group admin first on eGroups, then Y! and now groups.io nothing surprises me any more about the general public, whether they be group/forum members or not. A nasty experience for you nonetheless. Hope you feel better after venting here. :-)

This was discussed on here recently. The solution is not to mark
messages as spam or train her ISP not to do it in the first place. It
is not groups.io problem, they are just doing what they are told.

I don't know whether you made your suggestion on-list or privately to the group admins, and I don't know the culture of this group and its members, but if on-list I'm almost surprised you're not banned for being off-topic and disruptive.

Even if your suggestion was made privately I can understand their hesitance. They're getting conflicting reports about Groups.io and about Yahoo. One thing they may know is that over the years there have been many scares with claims that Yahoo Groups is circling the drain; and that, so far at least, it hasn't gone down. So yes, you may have been seen as just another Chicken Little.

You and I may agree that there are some objectively different things about this instance (unsupported, new owner, etc.) but I'm still not surprised that someone might resist what may seem to them to be alarmist information.
