Re: Members post and Groups.io unsubscribes them!

Brandy,

Someone in Groups.io is finally looking at it.
Did you hear back from any of those members as to whether they may have forwarded any group messages?

That's still my top bet for what happened.

Shal

Note that this is not a "Groups.io" notification.
It's not, but it is...? Mark sets specific error messages like this to be returned for various things.? It's actually your email service sending it to you based on what it gets from GIO.

Frankly, it's my opinion that this recent change was not adequately vetted. If people wanted notifications to be moderated, they could always have set that flag on the corresponding hashtag. As there is no "not moderated" setting on the #cal-reminder hashtag, the only way I know to avoid this is to take your group off moderation.?

I would be delighted to have someone prove me wrong on this.

I tried "rejecting by email" immediately after releasing a test message via the web UI. The most significant part of the Delivery Service Notification that came back (more or less immediately) was:

- SMTP protocol diagnostic: 500 This message has already been approved or rejected.

Note that this is not a "Groups.io" notification.

Unmoderate Calendar event reminder emails?

Starting this week, I receive a "Message Approval needed" notification for my group's weekly event reminder. I just found out that there's a recent change such that event notice/reminder emails are subject to the group's settings for moderation i.e. if the group posts are moderated, then the reminder emails are moderated too. That sounds good to me but now I have to approve reminders for events created by me, as my group's postings are moderated, except for the moderators and a few members.
?
Is there a work-around for the event reminder emails NOT to be moderated if the event is created by a moderator or any member whose posting privilege is such that their posts are not moderated in the group?
?
Thank you for your help.
Lily

I have done the same with the "live group" for which I am a moderator with the same results.

I also notice that Report This Message does not generate any sort of notification to its originator, and I find myself wondering if it should. Does anyone else have a view about this?

Mobile apps?

Mike Avery

First, many thanks to the people who answered my "What's Hot? What's Not?" email.? We've done a test migration and it looks pretty good. The test community seems happy with it.

The mobile friendly web site looks nice, but some of our members want a native app for their iPhones or Androids.? Are there mobile apps available?

Thanks again,
Mike

Re: Please advise if anyone is having a problem 'rejecting messages for posting'.

I think Chris is onto something. Check your email client's spam folder for any return message reporting a 550 error.

It's for reasons like this that I try to moderate all messages online.

Bruce

I did some checking in my own test group, making a thread of two messages and selecting Report this Message from the More menu on one of them.?The notice was duly sent back to me as a Moderator, but no messages disappeared, let alone the entire thread. I repeated this exercise with a different (subscriber-only) account on the other message and they both still show up.

There may be something funky going on, but I was unable to replicate it.

FYI,?

The only thing I can think of at the moment is that you inadvertently clicked on "reply" rather than the "reject" link. Does your group have other moderators? If so, is it possible that one of them accepted the message immediately before you tried to reject it?

Suggestion 1: have a look at your Activity Log to see what that has to say

Suggestion 2: enlist the help of another group member and get them to send a message that you try to reject to see if the same thing happens again.

My comment about "Reply to Sender" was a red herring; that is the current default set by Shal for a different test a few days ago.

Referring the absence of anything in the Activity Log (confirmed!) is a good candidate for beta; can I suggest that you enlist the help of another of your group's members to try to replicate the test I did, just to be sure... there is no point in referring something that cannot be repeated.

Direct add of members weirdness

I created a new group along with a subgroup.? Our membership settings auto-add members to the subgroup.?

i created a custom msg when adding members to the main group.? I was under the assumption all members would get this msg when they are directly added.

I sent a file of about 8500 emails (our migrated users) to be approved.? ?I'm being told members are getting the "Welcome to the [subgroup]" but not my custom message for the main group.? So I'm getting lots of emails from our members asking me if the subgroup msg is spam.

How come the members are not seeing my initial main group custom message?

Frank

Re: Message marked "Objectionable" hides full thread?

Chris,

When you went back to view the test message, did you use the link in the email, which worked?in my case, or click on the messages tab on the site, which?did not show the message in my case.? That was part of the issue, it was there because the link took you there, but there was no way to get to it from the site.

I'll?move this conversation over to the beta site.

Peace,
Tom

We had a member mark a message within a thread as?objectionable and now the entire thread does not show
While awaiting my last message to get through moderation I did a quick test on Shal's test group, but starting a test topic and then "reporting" it. I was sent a message by Groups.io stating that the message had been reported (along with all the other members of that group I have moderator status) but the topic (single post!) did not disappear; the link in the message I was sent went straight to it.

FWIW the "reply" I sent was to myself, for the simple reason that I did not notice that the default reply option changes to one whereby the message originator is the recipient, not the group, but a second reply went to the group as normal when I clicked the right tab.

I can confirm that nothing of this (pointless!) exchange appeared in the Activity Log.

Chris

Two points: for the avoidance of doubt there does not appear to be an activity defined as "Reported Message", so on that basis the log can't record it! That sounds like something for beta.

The second point (about reinstating the thread with the reported message) sounds like something for support.
