Re: Some replies going to all regardless of group settings
Colette,
Our group setting is ¡®Reply to Sender¡¯ and ¡®Remove Other ReplyUnfortunately email interfaces vary in how they handle replies. Note this has to do with the interface the member uses, which may be a mobile or desktop application rather than the web interface provided by their email service. I think most interfaces would interpret "All" as including the To: address (the group's address) regardless of the Reply-To field, so that might explain those cases. If those members have a different reply option they should try using it. For example, in my preferred interface (Thunderbird) the two reply options for a message from a "Reply to sender" list are "Reply" and "Reply List". Both do what you'd expect - Reply goes to the sender's address only, Reply List goes to the group's address only. But in Gmail's web interface I see both a "Reply" and a "Reply to all" option. Reply goes to the sender's address only, but Reply to all goes to both the sender's address and the group's. Am I missing something here? No, it is just one of the uncertainties of working with an open platform like email -- different vendors interpret the standards differently sometimes, and even ignore the standards sometimes. If it is very troublesome to have those messages go through to the group you may have to put the member on moderation when that happens. Next time they mis-post to the group I think you would have no option but to reject the message and tell the member to do what they must to send it directly to the other member rather than the group. There isn't an option, with a pending message, to re-direct it to the intended member rather than to the group. Maybe that's a feature that could be suggested on beta. I'm not sure how the software could reliably determine the intended member though. That may need some cleverness. Some replies going to all regardless of group settings
Our group setting is ¡®Reply to Sender¡¯ and ¡®Remove Other Reply Options¡¯ is checked. Most replies do go only to the sender. A few replies, however, go to the entire membership even when the sender swears that they only hit ¡®Reply¡¯ (Att.net) or ¡®All¡¯ (Comcast.com) without adding the groups.io address to the To: list. (There are some folks who do manually add the group name to their replies since they¡¯re sure everyone should see them.) Am I missing something here? Thanks, Colette Sanders |

Re: Asking a question of new subscribers before approving
John -- Just some additional info for clarity...
This Pending Subscription approach only works for people to apply to join your group. This notice is not sent to people that you invite or direct add. The logic here is that you have previously vetted them in some other fashion and want them to join, otherwise you wouldn't have invited them. If you need to gather information from every subscriber no matter how they join, you'll likely have to find some other way to do it. FYI, Bruce -- The system Help is your friend.??/static/help |

Re: Asking a question of new subscribers before approving
Just out of curiosity, can the replies be downloaded as a csv/tsv so that we can put into a database?

Does Groups.io have such an option?Yes it does; go to Admin then Settings, and select Member Notices; you can then set up a Pending Subscription message that is automatically sent to applicants when their "application" is received. You can include your "question" in that so that you can study their response and admit (or reject) accordingly. Chris |

Re: Questions about creating a group
The +help address is an automated reply and you won't see anything from them.? For the others, you'll need to make sure to set your Subscription to send Notifications to you.

Re: Asking a question of new subscribers before approving
I think many groups use the Pending Notice to ask the questions or get information needed.? You would set it up by going to Admin > Settings, and choosing Member Notices at the top.? If you have your owner account set to receive them, you'll get an email when there's a reply.? There's a bit of information in the Wiki, /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Screening-New-Members-Using-the-Pending-Subscription-Notice

Re: Asking a question of new subscribers before approving
Hi John, I believe that there is no such option at this stage. For our group, we currently use Google Forms and then approve based on the answers given. It does add an extra step in terms of checking whether the person has replied but is a simple work-around for us at present. Hope this helps. Marisa

Re: Would like to make a group.
As long as your group will meet the Terms of Service, /static/tos, especially the "Conditions of Use" section, there should be no problem having it here.? You can compare available features at /static/pricing.? If you're not sure, you can start with a Basic (free) group and upgrade later if needed.? You can also upgrade and downgrade as needed if you use the monthly plan.

Transfer Process Tip
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýIf you're transferring more than one group, especially if you have subgroups, make sure you start from the home page of the group you want to transfer before clicking on the Easy Transfer link at the bottom of the page. You cannot click that link and then select another group's name from the drop-down list to send orders for other groups. The orders won't take.Neither can you initiate a transfer, hit the back button, and then select a different group from the drop-down to initiate transfer. Otherwise, you will end up waiting days before you realize the transfer for those subsequent groups you selected from the drop-down did not actually initiate. You must go back and start at the beginning from the home page of the group you want to transfer to initiate each transfer. Always start at the group's home page to change anything within a group, even if you can see notices and selections for other groups. To confirm orders actually sent, and where they are in the transfer process, look at the Existing Transfers drop-down list to see each group's status. Hope this helps some of you not wait as long as I did to move into groups.io. ?
