Re: Transferring files & photos from Yahoo to IO
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThank you, Shal & Bruce. ?The only email I remember receiving was one that said, "?Yahoo Groups has been very unreliable lately. We will do our very best, but there is a good chance that we may not be able to transfer all of your messages, photos or files. We will tell you which ones we were not able to transfer. Also, the migration queue is several days long at this point. Please be patient as we work through the backlog of tranfer requests.¡± ? I never saw an email that said anything about being unable to transfer my files and photos, even after checking Spam and Trash. ?But I did notice that the photos in my Yahoo group come to just over 1 GB, so I will delete some of?the?unnecessary photos to bring the storage?size down. ?Perhaps that will help. ?I¡¯ll give it a few more days, and if nothing happens, I'll contact Support is you have suggested. Thanks again, ~Anita

Re: Subscribing with plus addressing
Charlie,
That's not specifically an IMAP feature, it is a Gmail feature. That is, it works just as well through Gmail's web interface as through an IMAP client application.
? I don't have personal experience using that Gmail feature, but there are a couple of GMF members with Gmail addresses of that format. Both have posted here without any comment about trouble sending or receiving messages. Re: Transferring files & photos from Yahoo to IO
Anita,
That means that the transfer agent sent you an email saying why your transfer is on hold, and giving you some choices as to how to proceed. It would have been sent to your email address (the one you use to sign in to Groups.io). Scour your Inbox, Spam and Trash for it. If you can't find that message, then as Bruce said contact support for assistance. Re: Mysterious delivery failure reason
Yes, that does look odd and it could be a misbehaving dns server.? Be nice if you would post the resolution from support on this.
The MS lookup is:
The IP address of the mail server is:
So the lookup works on google dns servers at the present time. Toby |
Re: Easy group transfer
Bill, I unchecked the box that Bruce mentioned and am sending invitations from io The box Bruce mentioned would only prevent sending the You've been added notices to your Y!Group members as their addresses were copied. Did you also uncheck the Transfer Members box? If you left it checked then your Y!Group members have already been copied into your Groups.io group, and you've no need to Invite them (using the Groups.io Invite feature). If they're now in the Groups.io group you can notify them by sending a Special Notice from the Groups.io group. Re: Mysterious delivery failure reason
Dave, ? ?MX lookup returned: lookup on : server misbehaving For a usual rejection case That text (and the three-digit code that should have preceded it) would have been issued by the member's email service during the connection from Groups.io. So most likely that service would have to be asked what it means. But in particular, port 53 in that IP address suggests that the receiving service mistook Groups.io as its DNS service provider, and attempted to look up that domain there. That's one seriously confused receiver. Also, I can't find any link between the user's domain name and the IP address Yes, Linode is a commercial service hosting Groups.io's web and mail servers. (I have sent substantially the same message to <[email protected]>. But maybe ? Good. Groups.io will want to make sure that its servers have the correct DNS entries in place. Or that there wasn't a glitch in the transaction with the receiver's service. But most likely this is not a Groups.io problem. It sounds like the recipient's server is rather confused about how to authenticate the message. Mysterious delivery failure reason
SBL webmaster
Hi --
I have a user who hasn't been receiving messages from our group for the past several days, following a slight mix-up in his ISP account billing. On the website, under his "Email Delivery History", it gives the reason the most recent delivery attempt failed as: MX lookup returned: lookup mpeks.tomsk.su on 173.230.155.5:53: server misbehaving "Misbehaving" is not very descriptive. Does anyone know what this is really indicating? Also, I can't find any link between the user's domain name and the IP address 173.230.155.5. A reverse lookup on the address returns resolver05.fremont.linode.com. Is this somehow associated with groups.io itself? (I have sent substantially the same message to <[email protected]>. But maybe someone here has seen this before and has some suggestions.) -- Dave Tweed SBL webmaster |

Re: Easy group transfer
Shal,
I unchecked the box that Bruce mentioned and am sending invitations from io The transfer took just a couple days. I will be sending out the invites to log in and start using on Sunday. I used some of the verbage that you shared. A big thank you for your help and GMF! Bill Bradley |
Re: Limit on Direct Add
This delay was added to keep unscrupulous people from adding everyone in the world to a group.? It should kick in when you add more than 20 people in a 24 hour period.? Mark usually notifies you shortly, but it can take awhile.? Some folks have noticed that the delay may not occur on subsequent add sessions.

Re: SUBGROUPS
You can just add them to the subgroup using the Admin > Subgroups menu item.? /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Why-use-a-Subgroup? If you have a Welcome Notice set up for the subgroup, each person will receive that when you add them.? You could set up a Direct Add Notice for the subgroup instead (or in addition.)
There's quite a bit of information about various parts of the site in the Wiki for this group.? Not all items are covered and improvements or additions are welcome (hint, hint).? Mark is constantly adding and 'adjusting' features, so corrections may be needed for some pages. Limit on Direct Add
I am moving members from Yahoo Groups to groups.io and decided to use the Direct Add feature so I have some control over the display name.? After adding about 120-150 or so, I got a message saying I had reached the limit and would be notified when it was ok to resume.? Can someone tell me how long the wait is and is this triggered by the number of users or the rate at which users are added.? I have about another 200 to add.? Thanks

Subscribing with plus addressing
Charlie at Duke
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI manage a group that just fled from Y!, so my experience with Gio is a little thin.? Our group requires moderator's approval to join.Someone with a Gmail address has sent a subscription request using IMAP's "plus addressing."? The email address is in the form username+label@gmail.com.? Gmail will accept a message sent to this address and will assign a label to it named label (it's actually an IMAP folder).? This can be a handy way to arrange your incoming mail.? (A Gmail filter is probably a better approach in this case, but I'll ignore that for the moment). My question is: Does anyone have experience with this sort of thing?? Does Gio treat a plus address in any special way or just ignore it like an ordinary non-plus address? Thanks for any advice. ???????????????????? -- Charlie |
